It’s so hard to find good videos on this subject! Would love to see a video of how you clean your breeder box and how you clean with the babies being so tiny! I haven’t been able to find this info anywhere 😫😫
You need to lower your water level in the big snails tank so when they lay their eggs (clutch) the others aren’t knocking them down all of the time and you’ll have a better turn out rate. Also I have fed two different sets of my mystery snails no cucumber and the others cucumber and the ones I fed the cucumber to ended up growing larger, producing eggs weekly and are healthier.
put them in a diy incubator higher success rate also tank size when the baby snails are born the are lazy and dont want to travel far for food the breeder box smart idea good work jadren
Or snail started laying eggs on the guppy grass my wife picked up from the local pet shop. We didn't expect how many first hitched a ride on it, but the amount of eggs we have seen the last few days has been crazy.
The young mystery snails we have now are from a clutch that had fallen into the water. Didn't know how long it'd been in the water, but wanted to give them a chance just in case. They're about ready to sell now. I've been leaving the clutches where they're laid. Unless they come loose or actually start to fall. Then I have a square Tupperware-type shallow bowl I put them in, surrounded by paper towel. I moisten the bottom and the top of the towel, then part of it sits under the clutch and part of it lays over it. I remoisten at least twice a day. At least. The problem we're having right now is our new mommas are laying really tiny clutches.
I feel like that water level needs to be lower, and as far as I know, an infertile clutch won't change color, a fertile clutch will turn white; if you put the clutch on a wet paper towel, you'll see it will stain it. As for feeding, algae is their preferred food
As to the the mystery snails drying up, you may want dimmer light on that tank. As to mold on the wet paper towel, fungi are always a problem around eggs. An experienced member of the San Diego Tropical Fish Society uses Acroflavin as a fungicide.
Very Helpful. I'll try breeding mystery snails again after watching this. my success rates were low. (a dozen babies from one pod surviving was the max) then they'd die out after getting the size of a dime.
If you let them hatch naturally, they will eat the egg case as a first food (good source of calcium for them). They are also able to get the air they need before entering the water.
They need tiny food on the glass; biofilm. Try a separate bioreactor or grow live spirulina. Since the hatchery is a separate tank, you dont have to care if the water is green.
That is such an awesome idea I just don’t cover my tanks And yes I know I really need covers lol 😂 Ty for the great video And the cutest little UA-cam star lol
I dont even like snails, but here I am watching the video anyhow! Haha, seems to be a good way to start making some cash in the hobby though! Good luck Jason!
I noticed you havnt mentioned the smell. I thought breeding these guys would help me earn some extra cash toward the hobby. I could not get past the smell. I have 6 tanks and none even come close to how bad the snail tank smelled, even with daily water changes! I enjoy your vids and thanks for making them, hope you get your success rate up.
I use a plastic 1 gallon icecream container. I fill it half up with water and put about 5 small holes in the lid and float them on a thin piece of foam. I never open them. That will increase the death rate. When they start to hatch I take a soft paint brush and brush the sacs with a little water. It softens the sacs and makes it easier for the babies to break free.
Hi Jason. When they are fertile they turn a fungus gray. Maybe you will have a better hatch rate if you incubate the clutches differently. They need humidity. Try a shallow ziploc container. Looks like you are on the right track. I'm wondering if they need a certain amount of time out of the water to get their first breath of air. My snails love Rephasy.
find a sponge that will float when wet or make one that can .i think they to take a breath before going underwater.you might be drowning the babies.hope it helps

How do you keep the ammonia and nitrates from building up with so many snails in one tank?? I only have 8 and I'm having a very hard time keeping up with the water
Hey, by chance do you know if the snail eggs need normal lighting to hatch? I have them in a DIY incubator on top of my tank light trying to keep the temp above 76°F but it doesn't get much light there.
That’s crazy, we got two snails and have about 1 egg clutch every 5 days and am on egg clutch #10 that was laid today. Don’t really know how to go about selling them
You had mentioned you noticed first thing they do is head to the surface. Is it possible that when you drop them into the 10 they just aren’t able to break surface fast enough to get air? Im hatching my first clutch as we speak great timing on video
Wont the snail color go back to brown by allowing all the colors cross breed? Your cross breeding out all traits? Such as a white and a blue will have brown babies.. good luck!!
I been trying to breed my snails for a month now I have 8 snails in a 55 gallon tank with my Oscar he does not eat them but they still wont breed. Any tips
@@zachdavis2279 Haha never mind then. I just knew someone who was hoping for his Nerite snails to breed in freshwater which they never would, so I was just making sure that didn't happen to you to
Mystery snail adults seem to be a little sensitive at least for me, Iv gotten large mystery snails that refused to open and died from ebay, now I redid my fish room so moved my breeding mystery snails to their own 75 with sand, the babies are doing amazing, but my adults are just laying on their back out of their shell and wont eat!! So then I tried moving htem back into their own tank, still no luck =( I am afraid I am going to loose my adults
Only shake the snails out when you see a few start to hatch and when you shake them out you cant put the rest back because the snails need oxygen to grow they will die when they touch water in the sack because it drowns them that's why they lay eggs outside of the water
Here is my ebay lisiting for Mystery Snails

Hi Jason. Great idea on the mesh raft. If you want one with larger holes look for a #5 mesh canvas (5 holes per inch) as the common one is a #7.

Also I have fed two different sets of my mystery snails no cucumber and the others cucumber and the ones I fed the cucumber to ended up growing larger, producing eggs weekly and are healthier.
I'd say power feed and daily 25% water change. And make sure there's no predators in with them. Use hard water or add a calcium cake of sorts.

They eat way way more than you can imagine
Lily seems like a great helper
Lol she has her moments when she's not pouring half a bottle of food in one tank
Great update Jarden, love the raft idea
Thanks!
One way to get the larvea to survive is having plants for them to hang onto and having enough nutrients so they can grow there tiny cute shells.
Almost at 6k. Congrats!
Nice, I'm thinking about getting a super red bristlenose colony started.
Good money in those guys they just grow so slow

mind doing an update for your mystery snails? I want to see how you've evolved your setup

In the Netherlands we call them “Apple snails” you can try to feed them some cucumber most snails really like that.
Apple snails are a tottally different species, they are pretty similar just apple snails get wayy bigger
appreciate this video, just what i was looking for
Glad it helped
What artificial food for apple snail?
Jason, have you got more bigger snails?
What if u float the egg sacs on a little raft in the breeder once they’re soft

Yes I know that but that takes 2 weeks would be nice to know in 2days like angelfish eggs so I could just throw them out
I do cucumbers and algae wafers, what’s a good way to boost calcium for the little guys?
Whats the colorful tubes on the sise of 5he raft, straws?
Order placed. Great info.
Thanks they will ship on Saturday
Been getting a ton of eggs, and babies in a 5 gallon. With a lid, Bubble filter, hang on top filter and about 86 degrees. They hatch like crazy.
Been a hot minute since I’ve watched your vids last time we talked on insta I was trying to make my own breed of guppy I did it lol:)
Very cool what does it look like
Jadren Aquatics I’ll send you a pic on Instagram
Jadren Aquatics ok I sent it lol
Thank you. Good video!
have you try misting the eggs?
They stay pretty moist from all the condensation
Whats the easiest and cheapest way the ship Mystery Snails? And do you need a "Live Fish" lable. Thanks and continued success.
awesome video
is it possible to put the babies in a green water grow-out tank?
I've actually debating setting up one of my grow out tanks as all green water so yes you can thanks

French style canned and yes adults eat it too

You should sell your egg floaters as an accessory. Smaller ones for the average hobbyist.
Hi how do you ship them? I checked boxes for shipping and it is quite expensive.
Congrats!!!
I want to breed seahorses. Ya think that would be profitable?
That's salt water so your setup is way more expensive
Do you water change daily or weekly? Can you teach us on how to do water change in snail tank thx 😉
I have automatic water changers on almost all my tanks but on the snail tank I was having to do an extra 20% a day because of high population

Yep if you hatch them to early they die
Typically if you have eggs their fertile.

To many snails in one tank
Stop force hatching them😮. They breathe air. You're going to drown some.😢
In bird chicks they think the hatching makes them stronger.
