The Godfather will always be one of the coolest men in wrestling.
He just seems so happy. Which is rare amongst some wrestlers.
Goddamn right!
There’s no one in wrestling that I’d rather smoke a cigar with.
birthday is May 16
@@ssssssstssssssss Me too, but pass on the cigar, I would want to smoke a blunt with the man.
I met him at a comic con and yeah he was a really sweet guy. I honestly was just planning on saying hello to the man. But we talked for a little while and he totally charm 50 bucks out of me to get a picture with him and an autographed figure (I didn’t bring the figure, he had it there.). It was totally worth it though, don’t get me wrong.
Hawk was the oldest competitor in Brawl for All at 41 years . Dr Death was 38 and Godfather was 37.
Steve Williams LOOKED a lot older than the others. Dude always looked roided asf and that stuff will age you fast.
38 he was ancient
"Steve was the tough guy 25 years before that"
That is one tough 13 year old.
why did they bring marc Mero and the god father back in the tournament after they lost the first round? like why not in the quarter finals, the 6 fighters had would have left to 3 in the semifinals, and it would of been better for Steve Williams, they would of done the same thing they did in WrestleMania 4 where hogan and Andre both got DDQ, and ted would get a free pass to the finals, they would of save a couple more wrestlers from getting injured, WHAT GIVES?
@@foxwolf316they brought them back because the two guys that beat them pulled out of the tournament. Steve Blackman got injured and Dan Severn was told to pull out because he was going to win it and get in the way of Dr. Death.
Holy crap, Godfather seems like the coolest dude ever.
Interesting hearing Godfather referencing wondering before the semi-finals "how am I gonna fight Butterbean" as if everyone knew ahead of time Butterbean was the fight the Brawl For All winner would get. The story we've heard for years is Butterbean was thought of after the tournament was over as a way of burying Bart Gunn for being the unexpected/unwanted winner.
It seems like the majority of wrestling personalities are trying to rewrite history a little bit as if people didn´t find the brawl for all entertaining but all of my friends at school that watched wrestling at the time loved it, I remember we were always pumped up about it and ratings were good, if they weren´t then they wouldn´t have kept doing the brawl for all so obviously people were watching it, it was something different, cool
he also said he "talked to steve yesterday"...
the guy died in 2009
wrestlers live in their own world
@@sebastiancovac7879 He said he " Talked too Steve ABOUT this yesterday !" Steve being Stone Cold Steve Austin during an interview on his podcast, about the Brawl For All ( Pronouns Pal). ..
@@JPLooney in that clip theres no mention of steve austin. he was being asked about who he cheered for more when they got ko: dr death or bradshaw and he answered: "nobody, i talk to steve about it the other day... steve was an old man by that time". the way he said it it sounds hes talking about same steve = dr death steve williams
and btw its to, not too,
He was talking about Steve Austin. He just didn’t do a good job with make clear rho he was talking about. But we all do that in speech.
Count me in in that 1% of fans who loved Brawl for All. I was thoroughly entertained by that trainwreck. Now in hindsight and knowing what I know now, I feel for everyone involved and the years taken off their careers because of being in it, but at the time it was fun to watch.
Yep same here, I liked watching it
I enjoyed it too, I thought they should have given the guys who were going to be in it about 2 months to focus on the tournament.
Most fans loved it, It was the old school wwf management that hated it, and they painted the narrative that everyone else did too.
count me in that 1% as well. was watching wrestling since 83. idk why but i loved the brawl for all. i honestly thought bart gunn was going to have a run with austin. boy was i wrong. love the interview man.
@@ad-fz9kx they dropped the ball badly on that one. They could have turned Bart into a legit star, could have had him work a program with Austin at SS over who is truly the toughest sob in the company. Paul Ellering was with the company so they could have had him manage Bart if they didn't think the mic skills were up to snuff. It was as you said, guys like Jim Cornette who killed it.
If Bart Gunn wasn't in the competition I think Godfather would have won it. Him vs Bradshaw would have been a good fight. But Bart Gunn was a beast, I love how he came out of nowhere and destroyed everyone against the odds.
Instead of actually giving Bart the push needed, Jim Ross found a way to destroy Bart's career. They literally hired Butterbean a boxer who did the tough man competitions for a living and asked Bart to change his style some weeks before the match. Talk about intentional sabotage.
The company even implied they would hire Butterbean if he won, which they didn't. Effectively he was just brought in to wipe out Bart Gunn.
@@alanguages Yep. I heard Butterbean talk about how Bart's one chance would have been to go in there throwing wild bombs, because he did hit very hard. Bean said Gunn learned just enough boxing to get himself in trouble, and we saw the result
@@seruresto1386 It goes to show how much influence JR had to make sure he got rid of Bart.
Even that would’ve been bad to happen. Let’s say Godfather did end up as the winner that leaves the contest as a joke still. How do you crown a guy as the winner when he lost his first fight and only got back in because the guy he lost too withdrew saying he didn’t have anything to prove. The entire thing was such an ill-conceived bumblefuck that even if it had worked as planned was a crap idea. How do you have a tournament where you say “this thing here is actually real unlike all the other stuff we’ve been having you pay us for”? Every aspect of this thing was stupid.
Godfather's been living right. 30 years later and he looks great! Happy for him.
Uncle Charles is one of the dopest humans on earth.
Thanks, bro!
Love this man. I can't believe this man isn't commentary.
Such a good point , he would be a brilliant commentator
He’s a very successful nightclub owner and promoter, I doubt he has any interest in that tbh. He’d be great though!
Crazy how the winner of the whole thing (Bart) turned out to be the biggest loser of it. Ruined his career.. Not many remember Godfather and Bradshaw getting knocked out cold by Bart. But everyone's first memory of Bart is him getting flattened by Butterbean.
It's beyond fucked up how they treated Bart Gunn. They invited him to a shoot fighting tournament and then punished him for winning.
It did ruin his WWF run but Bart actually had a decent run in Japan. The Japanese fans respected Bart for his real fighting ability.
@@KyleS.1987 yea wrestling politics is fked up. If you watched that Vice documentary on it you can see there is still heat between Bart and JR
@@JGD185 JR helped get Bart into All Japan. If there was any heat between them it didnt last very long or as intense as it was made out to be.
Because Bart Gunn was on his way to the top contending for titles? Gimme a fucking break, it's Bart Gunn. Best thing to ever happen to him. Nobody would even know who he was if it wasn't for this brawl 4 all. He was a jobber.
Chris Tucker: “my man u got knock the fffffffffuck out.”
This is a great, natural interview. Much respect.
Godfather is only a year younger than Dr Death lol I guess Steve just had old man energy
Williams had a shit ton of miles on his body at that point, even tho he wasn't that old age wise.
It's a many years that he was in the business that it took it's told on him that made older Beyond his years but like a successful NBA player who comes out of high school who may be only 35 years old but he's been playing for almost 18 years
never actually listened to an interview from this guy before legend seems like a proper nice guy man
Godfather's such a cool damn dude. Always seems so damn chill.
Absolutely loving your interviews , your getting bigger and bigger audience wise , I hope maybe you will start putting all the short interview segments together and just have one long interview
Of course he had to do it, he is the best. The supreme fighting machine!!!!!
Kama! Now that's a throwback to just before the greatest years in wrestling ratings history good to see another old head new generation watcher
@@bryannicholls200 "He wants a competition!"
Godfathers an absolute Treasure & I'm over the moon with how good of shape (Mentally & Physically) he still is. The Godfather seems like a super chill dude.
U know godfather is sum1 not to mess with. Guy can throw hands 4 sure
Godfather had the best looking boxing in the tournament except maybe Mero. Bart just had that power though.
Godfather is a really cool guy, giving props to his wife. He seems like a real person without any ego in the way.
He's SO damn nice. A total gentleman.
I couldn't help but see the humor in it when J R's old boy Williams got ko'd.
how was he thinking about butterbean when they said the whole butterbean thing came up after barts suprised win
Definitely has a cool persona

His wife told him: "you should be a pimp and be surrounded with hot ladies all the time". Coolest wife ever.
I like your interviewing skills.
Godfather was coolest cat
I don’t know when this was recorded but Steve Williams died years ago. He didn’t “talk to him yesterday”.
He was talking about Steve Austin. He had just been on his podcast around the same time
@@Afrocentricpoet Thanks for clearing that up.
Besides taker he seems the most down to earth & truthful
Except where he says he “talked to Steve yesterday”. He died years ago.
BSK guys are all super cool
@@justinsmith9836 He was talking about Stone Cold Steve Austin not Dr Death
He seems like a genuine good guy. I’d love to sit down, smoke a blunt and talk about wrestling with him
Only people who knew Bart Gunn was going to win was Terry Funk because he saw the giant scar on his abdomen and knew he had gone through some tough fights. The other two were Billy Gunn and Steve Austin because they rode together and he had a reputation at every bar they went to in Florida as being a tough guy.
this don't ever age😂 22+ years later still looks the same holy shit. LOL favorite wrestler, best gimmick, cool ass guy damn i wish I could meet him one day.
I’m glad the godfather brought that up because so many people overlook Steve Williams age at that point. Don’t get me wrong I think Dr. death is a legend and should be very much respected and in his prime he was one of the baddest man in the business but It’s not like it was 1985 either.
I just noticed that The Godfather has a belt hanging in the background that is says 'Cannabis' on it with little weed leaves on the strap. I wonder if he got a championship in smoking. I would love to smoke a joint with this guy.
What? You don’t think he just bought a belt or was given one as a gift. Like, “hey you’re a wrestler and you like weed, I got you a weed wrestling belt”.... somehow you think he’s a legit weed champion
His fight with Bart Gunn was the best BFA match.
This interviewer has the best obscure questions
Out of four fights, Bart Gunn knocked out three. Godfather was Bart's second KO. Hardcore Holly was not knocked out in the first round by Gunn.
Can u imagine if he started his career as the Godfather and the how wild it would've been in the attitude era
Godfather seems like he would be the coolest uncle ever, probably is to someone but he's not my uncle so...😩 Lol.

Why not she had a big hand and helping his career
@@jolemays3218 because in divorces, that can be used as evidence to claim a bigger share of a spouse's money and future earnings.
Dan Severn looked poor against Godfather. He won but he, Dan, was a pro fighter. I thought he would have made it look easier than that but he struggled against the godfather
How did the Godfather just talk to Steve yesterday? Did he talk to him in spirit?
He did Stone Cold’s podcast recently.

Yeah he does but there's a couple of things he seems to be mis-membering about this thing.
-He said he just spoke with Steve the other day on why Steve Williams didn't advance further. Unless he's talking about different Steves in the same sentence Steve Williams has been dead for years
-He was talking about how he wasn't thinking about Bart knocking him out and was focused on how he would take Butterbean. IIRC the Butterbean fight wasn't planned until after Bart won the tournament.

Humble?
Brawl For All dumbest idea ever in Wrestling that anyone came up with Damn you Vince Russo Lol maybe not bc we still talking about it 23years later
The dumbest idea was to turn Brodus Clay into Funkosaur

I thought he beat Severn, Severn didn't throw a punch, lol. He was doing ok against Bart Gunn but looked he got hurt during fight...if I remember correctly.
Severn said he knew he couldn't beat him boxing , that's why he didn't try . That's also part of the reason he dropped out . Try and find Severns interview about it .
Gunn dropped him with a straight and his leg bent funny. When he got up he couldn’t get out of the way of a bomb and went night night.
I have no problem believing how tough scorpio is
Lets not forget what happened in north korea
It was Dan Severn who backed out because he realized it was no way he was going to look good at that if he won big deal he's a world-class amateur wrestler UFC Legend and if you lost how embarrassing
He talked to Steve yesterday ? When was this shoot Steve, has been gone for years now?
The godfather is such an awesome guy 👍
Was this even legal?
Would Vince have not required a special licence or something to hold an event with real fights?
Vince does nothing legal lol
😱 “HOO TRAIN!!”
I will always no this man as Kama, the Fighting Machine. Gimmicks aside, he could work and was a very dangerous man
I was just saying today that Steve's time was in the 80's. Even if he won, it wouldn't have put him over in the WWF. He just didn't fit the era at the time and the fans wouldn't have bought it at all.
they should bring it back but boxing only.
Did they even know butter bean was the fight at the end of the tournament for the winner? I thought that came out of nowhere. Godfather making it seem like he was mentally prepping for the Bean.
Godfather had good take down defense.
Love Godfather but he's wrong here. Him and Steve Williams are a year apart in age. Steve was 38 at the time of the brawl for all and Godfather was 37. Steve Williams was one of those guys who just always looked older than he was.
All that abuse he took in Japan.
What godfather means friend is old in body and not necessarily in age in the traditional way. If you consider not just the damage he took in Japan as our other friend indicated here above but also his time as a 4 time division 1 collegian wrestler and 4 years as an all American collegian football player for the Oklahoma Sooners then the age of 38 is actually very old and he was very old in athletic terminology. 38 is old for someone who's used their body in such a way. It's an athlete thing or anyone who's lived a psychically grueling life kind of thing. You a athlete Jason? That's why I think the death of dr. Death is overrated subject he was almost done anyway.
@@TheRealDerekL I grew up in Shreveport, mid south wrestling country, so I know all about Dr. Death Steve Williams, and his very extensive background. Besides JYD, he's probably the biggest star people talk about here that came from down here. He actually moved back here after not long after the brawl for all was over. I believe he ended up moving to Nebraska or somewhere before he died. Here is where Godfather put things in the wrong context and this is what no one talks about for whatever reason. Steve tore his right hamstring ( a very common injury among athletes) at some point during the quarter finals fight against Bart. That's what slowed him down and why he could barely move. His "age" played no factor. Because in the context godfather put it, steve would've been a 18 year old (if you go back 20 years) tough guy in high school which would've been long before he got in to wrestling, and long before he did everything you mentioned. When the truth was and what I said initially, he was a tough guy once he was IN the business. Did his football and amateur background have a lot to do with that? Absolutely. But Godfather was talking about him in age terms as far as a "Years old". That's what triggered my reply.
@@jasonbaylis4604 @Jason Baylis I get what your saying and you definitely know background on Steve. Right on, Shreveport! What I'm saying is I think you didn't understand the context godfather was putting it in, meaning he's not saying Steve was so much older than him in actual years or that the number of years between them or that Steve's extra years senior to him played a factor, he was referring to his age as an athlete in relation to Steve's career. So 38 is old in athlete years. Godfather speaks to the years of damage in his sports background played a factor in his loss. In that we said the same thing. Right on though man all gravey.

Isn't dr death and godfather about same age? Saying he's to old to be the tuff guy he was and couldn't win? Weird
Dr Death would have given Godfather problems with the takedowns, he was a college wrestling champ

@thewelshviper it's fucked how 20 years ago wrestlers who were almost 40 were in rough shape compared to nowadays almost or over 40s wrestlers
I totally agree with you and I love the rough and tuff style , Mike rutundo in late 80s before irs gimmick was just as good style and tuffness as the Steiner's or Kurt Angle , Terry Gordy I had to do alot of research to know his career but yeah those guys you said are tuff as nails , Dan Severn especially

Bart Gunn folded everybody. It’s hilarious to watch.
Jokes on The Godfather because most of the guys were around Steve's age and 25 years prior would have made him 13 years old.
He was only a year older than The Godfather during the Brawl for All. He just looked older, when he was in his 20s in Jim Crockett he looked in his 40s then.

Bart wasn’t particularly well trained but was the toughest left and was markedly above the rest

i agree i say steve williams was too old in 96' he woulda been tough in 70s&80s
I mean, Bob Holly kept going too.
He should have been Wwf champion
Godfather best Severn
I like him but come on, Dan Severn played with him. If he decided to ground£, it would be over quick. No disrespect, Severn was a trained fighter.
Godfather needs a cough drop
It's like having a 40 year old, post hepatitis Hawk in it, during the Crockett days, he coulda beat anyone in it..except Severn and Doc.
@thewelshviper Youre absolutely right, but I disagree about scorpio, they had an infamous incident in S.Korea where Hawk laughed after Scorpio punched him, bc he said his punch was so weak he thought it was a rib.
@thewelshviper Neither Steiner were there, the "fight" happened on the tarmac of the airport. I've personally spoken to six of the people that were there. Even if that were the narrative, how do you reconcile in your head that a larger man has to "try" to stop a smaller man from punching him by holding. Rick Steiner was one of those whose said Hawk was one of the toughest men in pro wrestling. No one believes scorpio won but scorpio fans.
@thewelshviper Besides Hawk, I've heard it from Mike Tenay, Scott Norton, Hiroshi Hase, Yuji Nagata, and Osamu Matsuda (El Samurai). The "bus" angle negates it all. Because Hawk was not even on the bus. He rode with Flair, which was the whole crux of it. After getting off the plane, there was only one limo provided for talent, and only one seat left. Hawk knew that Flair knew and liked him better than the rest of the talent, and said "I guess we know who will be riding with Flair.." as a joke. Scorpio, for whatever reason, who WAS riding the bus, said "Man, why dont you get off his d-ck?" to which Mike asked him "WTF did you just say"? dropping his bag. Scorpio suckerpunched him..at which point Mike said he thought it a rib bc it was so weak, but grabbed him by his throat with both hands and held him at arms length. Mike being the taller, and stronger of the two, Scorpio could do nothing but swing wildly, and Mike said "Is that the best (or "all", depending on the telling) you got?" and, again, do you wanna settle this now or later?" and then the frightened MPs on the tarmac cocked their weapons, so both stopped. The next night, they were having dinner, and were served with stainless steel chopsticks, and Flair being Flair, seated them next to each other, bc everyone on the trip (with the execption of the Steiners and Norton-of the Americans) was afraid of Hawk and his temper. Scorpio was noticeably and allegedly humorously afraid and shaking and Mike saw him trying to tape the two chopsticks together, he took them from him, laughed and said "Youre not going to need those! I love ya, you lil n*gger, youve got heart". That was the extent of their "fight". I've also heard Flairs telling (over the phone) but dont believe much of what Flair says.
Me an all m8 thought it was mint
Severn would of beat godfather up bad with his fists if he wanted. Easy. He was just didn't
It's a shame that they distroyed Bart Gunn because he won and they had picked him to lose
