      @@4DIYers Thanks, it's a 2010 Ford Escape Limited with the 3.0L Duratec V6 and the GM/Ford 6-speed automatic. Pretty much fully loaded with AWD, heated leather, nav, Sync, etc. and only has 130k KMs on it. I'm hoping to maintain it well and keep it a long time!

      @4DIYers  5 років тому +2

      That's a rare find! I don't think I've ever seen an Escape with leather and those 3.0L V6's are a great engine. Shouldn't have a problem getting a long life out of it, I've seen plenty with well over 300,000km.

    What about spray lubricant like silicon? I've used that for power window tracks etc

    • @robertmaybeth3434
      @robertmaybeth3434 Рік тому

      I use a spray on dry lubricant, even WD40 makes a dry lube now, but only when it's sun roof season! Every other time lightly greasing might be best - even though it needs to be cleaned off and re-applied fairly often, any kind of oil or grease up there is a dirt magnet for road grime -

    to be honest wouldn't this be more easier to clean and lubricate when it's all dissembled from the roof of the vehicle because as for mine I got a 02 Mitsubishi eclipse GT and a 02 Chrysler 300m that has problems closing but more or less it's slow closing on both of these sunroof/moonroof

  • @SuperCuttysark

    Mine has an issue with the weather seal sticking to the car so i have to give it a push up for the roof to go up. Can I use this product to lubricate the seal where it sticks?

    • @4DIYers
      @4DIYers  3 роки тому

      The only thing seals need is a conditioner. Sounds like your sunroof either needs to be reset, the mechanism needs to be cleaned, or it needs an adjustment.

      4DIYers love those cars so much I’m actually thinking of getting one was it a reliable car overall? Not that it matters since I do my own work but parts get expensive very quickly.

    • @4DIYers
      @4DIYers  4 роки тому +1

      Mine wasn't too bad. The biggest issue I had was fixing the mistakes from the shop that the previous owner had do the maintenance. Don't buy parts from the dealer, that's where it adds up fast. I'm in Canada and ordered my parts online, mostly from over the border. Use parts manufacturers which were the OEM supplier for BMW like Lemforder, Febi, Bosch, Siemans, etc. If it's your first BMW, it'll be a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of it, it's easy. I only had North American vehicles before buying a BMW. Don't go with the cheap parts either, something like sensors will end up causing issues. I never did that, but it's a common issue in the BMW communities. Being a BMW, there's more to go wrong so yes it can add up faster. I have a Dodge Ram for a daily driver right now, only reason for the purchase is that I needed a truck. Parts can be cheaper, more room to work on it, but then again it's a lot simpler. Yet the funny part is, used puts seem to be more money than BMW parts lol. I want leather seats and they're substantially more than BMW seats, go figure. I have quite a few video repairs for the E39, should help with what to expect. As for driving, it's an underrated car. Almost perfect 50/50 weight ratio and you'll notice it, such a fun car to drive that holds it's own.

      Should be similar. Most sunroof mechanisms operate on the same basic setup.

  • @keishlacruz136

    The sunroof on my car makes a cracking noise when I try to open it (tried and twice and stopped immediately bc I freaked out) it’s a pre-owned car so idk if it was ever cleaned. I had been able to open it a couple times before this happen but now it doesn’t move. I was wondering if you had an idea to what could have happened

    • @4DIYers
      @4DIYers  4 роки тому

      It's pretty rare for sunroof mechanisms to be cleaned which is why many sunroofs have problems. The cracking could be something sticking, but it can also be something broken too. It could have blown a fuse it maybe jammed now, or the motor could have failed. Depending on the vehicle, there is sometimes a bypass. There will be a removable covered and you'll need a tool to manually operate the sunroof.

      He highlighted the tracks in bright red; those are the main channels that need grease. And then lightly grease any pivot points, being very careful not to get any chemicals on the headliner.
