Excellent series on compounds. I have a love/hate relationship with M105. I use it when it's the optimal product for the paint, but if there's an alternative, the M105 stays on the shelf. Sometimes I use 3:1 ratio of M105/M205 for a smoother run. Depends. A QED definitely helps with the dusting.

If using M105 with rotary polisher (5") to cut 2k polyurethane after wet sanding 1000, 1500, 2000 grit on an electric guitar body, what advice would you give regarding:
    1. What rpm?
    2. What length of time? Would it be smarter to do many short passes to avoid burning through, than one a little longer? If so, about how long passes?
    3. With a rotary polisher, what type of motion and pressure would be optimal?
    4. Any other concerns? Would a lighter cut compound than 105 be a better option?
Many thanks in advance for any pointers you can give!

Ahhh, not a fair test, you used a random orbital polisher w a compound designed to be used with a rotary. As far as residue, the polished area has almost none when I'm done and the throw off from the rotation is significant though. I paint cars. I only use my random orbital as a third step, compound, polish, then orbital with a good swirl remover. ....I know I know....Rupes, Bigfoot random orbitals rule man...BS, I could have polished the section you polished in a quarter of the time you spent w that toy you detail guys insist is the shite.

    • @johnmelling9950

I agree regarding the polisher. Orbital are a big step backwards as far as the cutting stage goes. Good for the very final polish but rotary is still king by far for the heavier defects.
