Exactly, the us version literally screams "Robotnik won, but you can still do it!!!" It's literally the last stage of the game and they will throw a creepy theme at you for the final fever like they didn't ruin the sadness of the bad future themes.
I pretty much like all the tracks from both sides. I think the Japan one is slightly better as it flows based on your actions and the music reflects it. The American one conveys an environmental story at the moment. None are terrible, and it is up to personal tastes.
The US variant of bad future wacky workbench sounds like a sonic adventure 1 song. Legit, imagine it playing in the stage Final Egg and it'll totally fit. Especially the part with the guitar solo, it just gives SA1 vibes. I love it.
I barely listen to to the US soundtrack so I will say this about Palmtree Panic US Bad Future: I do like how the percussion is quieter, the melody is off-tone, and the voices sound emotional. So I think on an analysis level it is pretty interesting that regard. I also think MM Bad Future US sounds a lot like modern Sonic music Also damn at 3:54 that bug robot is really grooving to the music

Quartz Quadrant Bad Future JP/UE is actually in my top ten. Just love the sampling in this song and that fast paced drop. The percussion is fantastic, too.
To add, at 15:49 the piano sample is the same one used during Palmtree Panic good future. Wich I love BTW because while in the GF this was used to blend with the flow of the song, here it's used in a depressing style... Palmtree Panic ost is a sooo good introduction to the bad future gimmick

With the Metallic Madness bad futures, it would’ve been really cool if: - If you have 5 or 6 time stones, the US versions played for Acts 1 and 2, as you can still get two more time stones in those two acts; there’s still hope. But then if you still only have 5 or 6 by Act 3, you get the JP version as you have basically failed; there is no hope. - If you have 4 or less time stones, you get the JP song for all three acts. There’s no way of winning at this point, might as well face it I know it’s impossible, but it’s a nice idea if I’m being honest.

And don’t get me wrong, Wacky Workbench BF JP is good, but it is DEFINITELY not #1 compared to songs like Palmtree Panic BF JP, Stardust Speedway BF JP, and Collision Chaos BF JP
The best way to describe the way the 2 OSTs handle BF tracks is 2, very simple words. METALLIC MADNESS US uses these songs to show what Eggman has turned these once peaceful, harmonious lands into. They’re much slower and more somber, but still convey the feeling of “Screw you dude! This is all your fault!” In other words, you truly see how METALLIC these places have become. JP makes these tracks much faster and crazier. Many people say that they don’t fit a Bad Future, but remember what villain we’re dealing with here. If this was someone like, I don’t know, Vader, then yeah, these tracks wouldn’t fit. But this is Dr. Eggman, aka, a freaking maniac. These tracks show the MADNESS he has created. I definitely prefer JP overall but I love the direction US took with these.
The zone itself is also crazy too with tons of traps, some people I've met said that Metallic Madness doesn't have to be like what it is. But it is literally the final zone and the lair of a freaking genius who is also a maniac at the same time.

It doesn't sound as evil as Wacky Workbench or Palmtree Panic. It's faster than Collision Chaos (as well as its brother from another mother, Wacky Workbench US), and the sirens and synths make it more intense than Quartz Quadrant, IMHO it does fit the race and it's also iconic. It also sounds better than some of the faster tracks.

I absolutely LOVE Spencer's work in Sonic CD since I grew up with it back in the early 90s and I'll agree that Stardust BF-US has a more darker dystopia atmosphere ala. BLADE RUNNER vibe to it. The JP tracks are good (just music, fellas) but I will say that they're too wacky at times, as if you gave a keyboard to a speed-induced 5 y/old, and don't have much variety to the mood level itself. 🎵
wacky workbench US is actually one of my favorites! I love how it sounds like a bad future basically so I dont know what everyone was thinking when they said this sonuded like a good future, that one part (5:26) makes it sound like (if you listen closely) the instruments are being worn up and used up, its so cool! + that getaur is so good. its full bada@@ mode
08:32 This is, by far, my most favorite track of the US soundtrack, and it feels really good to find another person that seems to agree this music does fit Metallic Madness Bad Future, but I think you just focused too much on the guitar and electric part and did not pay attention to the other parts, so this is my interpretation of this specific theme: The whole music feels like Sonic is running desperately through a Metallic Fortress that has been discarded and abandoned by its creator after he saw no more use for it, and we can see it by how many hazard there are, and how it is breaking apart, with its old and bad cared machinery still functioning even at the risk of exploding or malfunction, which adds to the overall fast-pace action that the song has. But there is also another important point, the short and drowned by the electric sounds Bongos that the song features in all of its time-states, which are a bittersweet reminder of what could have been saved from this zone and what it could have been if you had put a little more effort into saving it, and another important part is how the song has a kind of "preserved hope", which in my opinion, it's saying "There is no hope to save this zone or Little Planet, but you can at least avenge it by dealing with Robotnik once and for all", as Sonic desperately tries to reach Eggman so he can end this forever. Welp, this is just my opinion, feels free to disagree with it.
totally get what you mean with stardust speedway. something can be the best song you've ever heard, but if it doesn't fit it can really take the feeling out of the stage or mood
Personally, if metallic madness wasn’t the last level in the game, then the US track would be a better fit. But I think the JP track is better since it feels like robotnik is reveling in his victory and it feels like the whole track is kind of taunting you.
I don't know, the police sirens , the sample voices being toned down and distorted, the usual metallic sounds that at least for me are like an indication of machines having won, the way it starts relatively normal and then gets more hectic once the "GET DOWN" voices appear, it all feels like the bad future of a speedway next to a city, it feels that after robotnik won, he took control over the place and their autorities and now you're a wanted criminal in their eyes
0:20 does not look like a bad future at all, rather like the past 3:51 I love this track it's my favorite 4:55 this track is more like the past than the bad future 6:26 to be honest, I don’t think this track is so creepy, but it seems to me more suitable for the space base zone, but this is my personal opinion, so I ask that no one take it with hostility 16:17 I love this track too, it sounds really inflates 17:01 here at this moment you hear a robotic voice or something like that

I think I’m the only guy who likes all music in both soundtracks equally and I used to not like the US soundtrack but it grew on me and I appreciate it a lot.
Welp here is my full opinion about the tracks and whatever, remaking opinion. #14. Palmtree Panic BF US : This song describes a bad future pretty well, this song is really sad too, especially the voice. But it is too boring and meh, fits a bad future but too weird. #13. Wacky Workbench BF US : I honestly like this song, the electric guitar is awesome! This is just another rock music, I really think it is good, but doesn’t fit a bad future at all. I really think a bad future theme should describes a bad future than making it more fits, actually I really think this song fits the level, background and it makes the foreground really cool. #12. Stardust Speedway BF JPN : This song is great, well I like the fast-paced, the sirens and all that hues, it really fits a race. But all that, this song don’t fit a bad future like what it should, it’s not feeling like we’re doomed in the worst future, where Robotnik destroyed the world, there are thunders and dark red gas everywhere, with tons of broken sirens. Overall, a mediocre track. #11. Collision Chaos BF JPN : This song is really good. It is really similliar to the present theme, but more ominous and dark, well I think it fits the stage and that ‘Collision’ welp I think you didn’t understand the joke. It’s like Eggman already destroyed the Pinballs and the fun is over, now he made an whole Eggman Factory with full of deadly pinballs, it destroy you ( Pingas ). Welp this song is good, but it don’t do the bad future that good, I really think this track makes it like the past is no more. An pretty overrated track. #10. Quartz Quadrant BF JPN : This song is really panicked, it is very fast, it is very serious, it fits the stage, the colours, the background! This song is telling us to really forget this place when you really causing global warming. #9. Metallic Madness BF JPN : This song is really great, it fits a bad future, fast paced, crazy, panicked, and I really love that melody, the laugh, the whatever game over sounds it makes it so evil. A shame it is pretty hard to listen to the loop, I wish it was in the 2011 Taxman Remaster, it actually feels like Eggman have to re-destroy your hope and feelings, and it feels like you already destroyed the planet, you can’t save it anymore, it is no use. #8. Quartz Quadrant BF US : This song is really scary, it fits the stage, the middle part is really creepy and very dark, the guitar really makes it more dark, creepy and it is not an bad electric guitar! I love this song for being such an Destroyed-Quartz-Quadrant song, really fits the main gimmick. #7. Tidal Tempest BF US : This song was really great, it fits a bad future, ominous, scary and the guitar makes it so so so dark! I love this song very much, but it is also as good as the other one, the most loved Japanese Bad Future Soundtrack... #6. Tidal Tempest BF JPN : This song is evil, creepy, and the middle part is really good, it is creepy, evil and yup very menacing when you steps into this disorted-destroyed-tempest... The last part was awesome it is really disorted, menacing and it really did invokes the danger! #5. Metallic Madness BF US : This song is really great, I like the serious first part and it really similliar to an factory, but sounds very much menacing. The middle part was another creepy guitar, it is really dark and creepy. After that awesome creepy and full darkness guitar, it has some pretty weird creepy noise, I would scared the heck out when hear that when going to sleep, it is really sad part and it is like “Think about what you could’ve saved, who could you have saved? And you have to pay for what you did” it is really menacing and scary, creepy and dark, it’s like telling us to freaking give up! The final part was another great and awesome guitar, an part that makes the whole soundtrack good, this song is really great and dark, it is also intense and crazy panicked than many other JPN Bad Future Soundtracks. #4. Palmtree Panic BF JPN : Don’t get me wrong, this is an very intense and dark track, it fits the colors and everything about the disorted Panic Resort, also some noises are really disorting. Not only it uses the whatever fake “yeah!” is just awful, I mean it’s not bad thing but it is sounds really pain and awful fake happy screams, this song is ominous with that and the start, but after first start, it starts to be panicked and crazy! #3. Collision Chaos BF US : This song is really great, I love the rhythm and it is a very great track with another guitar, this guitar is not normal, oh no! It describes a bad future very good and it makes everything dark, creepy! It is very intense track, I like where the part it is similliar to that Present theme, it’s like remembering the fun. ( talking about the sad part ) It is really an GREAT and CREATIVE track, where it literally saying that the past is no more and now you have to pay for what you did... Only reasons this wasn’t as good as the next one is still an mystery... #2. Stardust Speedway BF US : Because this track really fits the stage, the bad future, the race because fast-paced, the really great guitar and it makes the race more menacing and no more alarming sirens, it’s not a big deal when this song is already bad future and it says it all when you really listen to this. The loop is the best too, I like the guitar, it’s may even better than that alarming sirens for making the song more panic. It fits the stage background and colors a lot, US Tracks needs more loves. *OH HERE WE GO!* *3* *2* *1* *0!* #1. Wacky Workbench BF JPN : This song is really great, it fits a bad future, I really like the alarming sirens telling us there is AN METLDOWN COMING, it is very intense and menacing first part. Ya wanna know what more intense and more menacing?~ it’s the middle part, it is so creepy and menacing with that similliar to present theme middle part but more scary and creepy, it is also faster and more darker. This song is really disturbing that final scary part, it is so dark and intense soundtrack. It’s even better than the #2 by pretty near but still far, close.
No matter which Bad Future track is your favorite, we can all agree that they convey one thing excellently: It's a good thing that Sonic's always around to stop Dr. Robotnik, because if he wasn’t there won't be much of a future for anyone.
My biggest issue for the U.S. version of palm tree panic is that it doesn’t really belong in a sonic game, it belongs in a horror game of a forest with fog. (Not like slender, something lighter than that.) its a track that plays before any intense moments within said horror game. One other thing to notice is that some of the bad future U.S. themes share some similar motifs to the past themes
Stardust Speedway bad future US is my absolute favorite, it has been my ringtone for about 11 years. The JP version goes well for the stage, but US works as well but as Metal Sonic's theme too; feels that cold evil machine sense and kind of melancholic edgy feel of Metal Sonic in nowadays comics. You couldn't be more right about the Palm-tree Panic tracks. The US is easily one of the worst as it does almost nothing. The JP is one of the best in that it haunts and taunts you.
The US often gets overlooked because "Palmtree Panic" is the first ost on every playlist and because it's the first level. It's the most generic sounding ost to ever exist on earth and thus giving the US ost a bad first impression despite it being very good and more fitting to the story's tone and implications. I really am curious about how the US ost would've sounded like if they got more than 4 weeks time to create the entire ost

In MY opinion, stardust speed way JP is my favorite bad future. It kind of sounds like a race next to a city because you hear police sirens, and it sounds like present but more "eggman has took over" future and the voice symphony its a chefs kiss. Wacky workbench will be 3rd place because holy shit it sounds like a emergency and all the workers are escaping.
The MM US track giving off the vibe of "Robotnik won, but there is still hope" is the problem. This is the final level. There is no hope. He's won. You failed. That's why I give MM JP the edge
Anyway, my ranking: 14. Palmtree Panic US - This is the most boring track in both OSTs. I think the composer wanted to simulate the destruction of the wildlife by incorporating less instruments, but all there is now is percussion and mourning chants. This is just an objectively bad track. 13. Quartz Quadrant JP - I really like the shouts of "Whoa, forget this place", but this is just a fast paced version of the present theme without sounding evil enough, while still frantic in the wrong way. If the mine collapsed and you have to break through, it would fit better. 12. Tidal Tempest JP - This is a really evil track, but it doesn't fit an underwater level at all. Treating Quartz Quadrant this way would fit it very well, though. 11. Collision Chaos US - This takes the already bleak Collision Chaos Present and makes it significantly more evil, but I really don't like the melody in the first place. It at least fits a bad future, which I can't say about the next track... 10. Collision Chaos JP - This track, on the other hand, is fast and bouncy, but doesn't fit a bad future at all. It falls way short of the mark, especially compared to the Present and Good Future themes. 9. Wacky Workbench US - This track also isn't evil enough. Both it and Collision Chaos JP could be great Act 2 themes for Sonic Mania, though. 8. Palmtree Panic JP - This track is very evil and serves as a great first impression, just like all Palmtree Panic JP tracks. However, something a little more solemn and bleak (like Tidal Tempest US and Quartz Quadrant US) would fit a natural zone better. Palmtree Panic US could have been great... if it only had some personality. 7. Stardust Speedway JP - This track is iconic, and is nowadays basically Metal Sonic's theme throughout the franchise. However, it still doesn't really suit a bad future. 6. Quartz Quadrant US - This track sounds really evil without sounding frantic or panicky. This is the kind of vibe I want from natural areas. Of course, mines are also quite mechanical, and JP would sound good if it was more evil. 5. Metallic Madness US - The rather underwhelming Present theme suddenly gets a boost of energy and becomes a very evil and menacing Bad Future theme. I really love the electric guitar throughout this rocking track. Now let's add something to make it completely unique... 4. Metallic Madness JP - What makes this track so good, in my opinion, is the rapping vocals, which belong to Robotnik himself. "Sonic, dead or alive, is mine" sounds so evil. "You can't do anything, so don't even try" is even better, and directly contradicts the opening theme. If "You can do anything" gives you hope, this track exudes the feelings of failure and despair. 3. Tidal Tempest US - This track is similar to Quartz Quadrant in its overall atmosphere, but is even scarier and fits an underwater level perfectly. The female vocals sound like they're short of breath, symbolizing drowning and again fits the stage very well. 2. Stardust Speedway US - This is just a really good track, one of the absolute best of the two OSTs and even technically better than the next track. It also fits the race really well. 1. Wacky Workbench JP - This is by far the scariest track of them all, well fitting of an abandoned munitions factory and whatever the hell can be found there. Sonic could stumble upon leaking atomic bombs for all we know.
I think Quartz Quadrant JP is one of the best bad future themes. It feels panicked and intense, and greatly contrasts the cheeriness of the present theme. It’s also a banger.
My Opinion: *D Tier: Meh* *14. Palmtree Panic JPN: 6.25/10* The execution with the melody and instruments make this track very weak and weird. Despite being a childhood favorite and being the first Sonic CD level theme that I ever heard, I no longer love this track anymore because of it's weaknesses. I cannot fathom this track anymore, and I would go as far as to say it's easily the worst Bad Future from Sonic CD. *13. Stardust Speedway JPN: 6.5/10* I use to like this track quite a lot, but I've seen the cracks of it. It doesn't fit the Bad Future or Stardust Speedway almost at all. Overall, it's a very weak track. It has terrible execution with the vocals. I get that the composers were going with a police chase type of feel, but it honestly doesn't work well. It could only describe the city in the background, and that's it. *C Tier: OK* *12. Wacky Workbench US: 7.4/10* This track has a good melody, but it's execution is a bit weak. It definitely fits the Bad Future, that's for sure, and it certainly has a haunting/depressing feel to it. The only issue that massively plagues this track is it's weirdness. I'd personally consider this the worst US Bad Future, and that's quite the statement considering that I use to regard this track as a 2nd place to my all time favorite track, Wacky Workbench Good Future US. *11. Collison Chaos US: 7.75/10* Better than the Good Future, but some parts are just OK. This track just sounds really weird, and strange for my tastes. It fits the mood that a Bad Future should have, but I don't think this track would strongly Collision Chaos well. I only really like the part where it sounds similar to the present theme, and the snare rhythm towards the end. Overall, this is a mediocre track in regards to how high both OSTs overall average. *B Tier: Good* *10. Quartz Quadrant JPN: 8.4/10* I like how this one is a remix of the first half of the present while the Good Future is the second half. Speaking of the second half, that part of this song is either it's best part or it's weakest par because it is cluttered and oversaturated. Even though it's a mixed bag there, I do think this track fits the outside and especially the inside parts of Quartz Quadrant. *9. Tidal Tempest US: 8.5/10* It fits the level well, sounds hopeless, and is downright depressing. It's biggest weakness is that it sounds too mature, and some of the high-pitched notes and screaming are ear grating. The part at the end where it loops however sounds phenomenal. *8. Metallic Madness JPN: 8.6/10* This fits the final level very well, and I like the lyrics. This track is openly more sinister than the US version, and I like that quite a lot. The unused loop is very good, and the broken, worn down feel of this track is so fitting for what is Robotnik's base in the Bad Future. *7. Metallic Madness US: 8.8/10* This track is very great for a final Bad Future due to it's cinematic nature. The atmosphere of this track is it's biggest strength is that it's simultaneously sad and hopeful. It's industrial and mechanical feel fit Metallic Madness well, and the parts towards the end are what narrowly carries this track over it's Japanese counterpart. The loop for this track is also really great. *A Tier: Great!* *6. Stardust Speedway US: 9.0/10* I'm back to loving this track again. I have really started to realize just how great this sounds on headphones with the guitar. As previously stated in earlier versions of this comment, this track really fits Stardust Speedway and the Bad Future well. I even think it fits Metal Sonic himself and the race against him as this track really fits the serious atmosphere the penultimate Bad Future should have. *5. Quartz Quadrant US: 9.25/10* I love the vocals, scares, bassline, and the feeling of despair it brings. It truly sounds like Robotnik won, and all hope is lost. This track, like it's Good Future counterpart, has a very futuristic feel to it which gives it a slight edge over it's JPN counterpart. *4. Tidal Tempest JPN: 9.3/10* This is amazing. I really forgot just how amazing this one is. This track is quite industrial, futuristic, well distorted, and I like the unused loop at the end. This is very fitting for a withering, polluted water factory in the Bad Future. *S Tier: The Best of the Best!!* *3. Palmtree Panic US: 9.5/10* I like the execution with the African-like mood. This track is very fitting for a Bad Future in my opinion. The melody is amazing. The percussion is great, and I like the feeling of danger and sadness this track gives off, which the album version does even better. *2. Collision Chaos JPN: 9.6/10* I really forgot just how good this one is. After listening to this one more recently, I think this is the second best Bad Future theme in the game. I like the bassline, the percussion, melody, the unused loop, and the guitar. It fits the level really well. It's really evil, and it's execution is done in a manner how it's not too much or too little. *1. Wacky Workbench JPN: 9.7/10* It's intense, and fits Wacky Workbench along with the Bad Future. I love the industrial alarms and the climax where it's so sinister. The unused loop is so great, and the execution of the main melody and sub melodies makes this a track that's so good that I actually covered it for Sonic's 30th Anniversary.

My list based off how well they fit a bad future and how much I think it fits one. 14. Wacky workbench US (this sounds more like everyone is on a lunch break having a dance off. It's not even intimidating!) 13. Collision chaos JP (the only evil element is how dull it feels) 12. Palmtree panic US (its a little haunting but not exactly grim or scary. It sounds more like you stumbled into a deep safari at night rather than a wasteland,) 11. Metallic madness (it's great just has the flaw of giving you hope. No means of slander. This ain't it chief.) 10. Stardust speedway JP (I don't hate it. It's just not as evil sounding as the ones above it I feel like it's elements of sounding evil is the sirens and out of controlled chaotic instruments. (Pt 1)
Pt 2 9. Quartz quadrant US (this takes the US haunting idea and twists in in an abandoned lab sound. I love it. But there's one that does a similar idea and makes it crazier) 8. Quartz quadrant JP (it makes it sound like you want to escape. It even removes the response in the call and response bit.) 7. Tidal tempest US (I love how haunting it sounds. It fits unlike the first US bad future theme) 6.stardust speedway US (it's pretty good. The start is off and if weren't for a certain game killing my love for this. I'd rank it higher) 5. Tidal tempest JP (the fast pace is irony at its best. It tries to go back to its past but is drowned out. I love that idea.) 4. Metallic madness JP (this sounds evil. More evil than the US version because it practically says you done goof.)
Part 3. 3. Collision chaos US (using the present theme and make it more evil sounding than it is. That must have been a hard task. 2. Palmtree panic JP. (Nightmare fuel at its best. It mocks you with every positive feeling of Palmtree panic being used to mock you. 1. Wacky workbench JP (the hellements are well used. This fixes every issue i had with the US version.)
SS JP honestly feels like a "faster" song than SS US despite a ~5bpm drop because of the fuller mix, especially all the extra, fast, percussion. Not really sure i understand the angle that they feel that different

I’m not sure why this song sounds so happy tbh it’s supposed to be a dire situation but idc. That intro man….it’s so amazing! The techno vibe is Chef’s kiss. A very good composition over all. 11. A good sounding track but annoying vocal samples and it’s just not a very interesting mix compared to the other versions 10. This is pretty good. It’s way better than the present theme with those annoying vocal samples. Wether or not it sounds “evil” that guitar shreds and I love it. 9. This one is good. Tbh i can agree with ocean on wacky workbench US bad future. The place is in absolute chaos and yet they play dance music? But for stardust speedway JP bad future it does sound fast paced. Even the sirens envoke danger.
Btw someone who can agree that wacky workbench JP bad future sounds perfect for a bad future theme. Its chaotic, evil, and dangerous. Makes me want to leave. And the sirens used is perfect for portraying "danger" or "warning"
I'll just add the the jp metallic madness has lyrics such as you can't do anything or don't even try basically telling you to give up contrasting the opening you can do anything heavily which makes the ost even greater
JP soundtrack sounds more fun and cool. Under this soundtrack, you only want to dance, but certainly not be afraid of Eggman's atrocities. @ But the US soundtrack sounds more atmospheric and serious, which is funny because I think the Japanese Sonic is much more serious than the American one.
In my opinion stardust speedway JP fits pretty well because the present and past soundtracks have jazz or have calming music because there's nothing going wrong where in the bad future, the music is exciting because it gives sonic a rushing feeling to go back and break the robot transporter for a good future, also fitting in with the metal sonic race, seeing as robotnik has a laser seeing whoever loses, dies. This is why in my opinion, speedway should be in a higher rank
Lemme tell u a story: Once opon a time When I was tails but the robot generators were already destroyed like in wacky workbench I only destroyed the metal sonic projectors but when I was done It said I got a good future but it was a bad future and I had jp music on but when I finished the boss. It said I got a good future. So when u go into the past and only destroy the metal sonic projectors because the robot generators are destroyed already then u get the good future song.

I pretty much like all the tracks from both sides. I think the Japan one is slightly better as it flows based on your actions and the music reflects it. The American one conveys an environmental story at the moment. None are terrible, and it is up to personal tastes.

I barely listen to to the US soundtrack so I will say this about Palmtree Panic US Bad Future: I do like how the percussion is quieter, the melody is off-tone, and the voices sound emotional. So I think on an analysis level it is pretty interesting that regard.

With the Metallic Madness bad futures, it would’ve been really cool if:
- If you have 5 or 6 time stones, the US versions played for Acts 1 and 2, as you can still get two more time stones in those two acts; there’s still hope. But then if you still only have 5 or 6 by Act 3, you get the JP version as you have basically failed; there is no hope.
- If you have 4 or less time stones, you get the JP song for all three acts. There’s no way of winning at this point, might as well face it

The best way to describe the way the 2 OSTs handle BF tracks is 2, very simple words.
METALLIC
MADNESS
US uses these songs to show what Eggman has turned these once peaceful, harmonious lands into. They’re much slower and more somber, but still convey the feeling of “Screw you dude! This is all your fault!” In other words, you truly see how METALLIC these places have become.
JP makes these tracks much faster and crazier. Many people say that they don’t fit a Bad Future, but remember what villain we’re dealing with here. If this was someone like, I don’t know, Vader, then yeah, these tracks wouldn’t fit. But this is Dr. Eggman, aka, a freaking maniac. These tracks show the MADNESS he has created.
I definitely prefer JP overall but I love the direction US took with these.
The zone itself is also crazy too with tons of traps, some people I've met said that Metallic Madness doesn't have to be like what it is. But it is literally the final zone and the lair of a freaking genius who is also a maniac at the same time.

It's faster than Collision Chaos (as well as its brother from another mother, Wacky Workbench US), and the sirens and synths make it more intense than Quartz Quadrant, IMHO it does fit the race and it's also iconic. It also sounds better than some of the faster tracks.

08:32 This is, by far, my most favorite track of the US soundtrack, and it feels really good to find another person that seems to agree this music does fit Metallic Madness Bad Future, but I think you just focused too much on the guitar and electric part and did not pay attention to the other parts, so this is my interpretation of this specific theme:
The whole music feels like Sonic is running desperately through a Metallic Fortress that has been discarded and abandoned by its creator after he saw no more use for it, and we can see it by how many hazard there are, and how it is breaking apart, with its old and bad cared machinery still functioning even at the risk of exploding or malfunction, which adds to the overall fast-pace action that the song has. But there is also another important point, the short and drowned by the electric sounds Bongos that the song features in all of its time-states, which are a bittersweet reminder of what could have been saved from this zone and what it could have been if you had put a little more effort into saving it, and another important part is how the song has a kind of "preserved hope", which in my opinion, it's saying "There is no hope to save this zone or Little Planet, but you can at least avenge it by dealing with Robotnik once and for all", as Sonic desperately tries to reach Eggman so he can end this forever.
Welp, this is just my opinion, feels free to disagree with it.

Personally, if metallic madness wasn’t the last level in the game, then the US track would be a better fit. But I think the JP track is better since it feels like robotnik is reveling in his victory and it feels like the whole track is kind of taunting you.

I don't know, the police sirens , the sample voices being toned down and distorted, the usual metallic sounds that at least for me are like an indication of machines having won, the way it starts relatively normal and then gets more hectic once the "GET DOWN" voices appear, it all feels like the bad future of a speedway next to a city, it feels that after robotnik won, he took control over the place and their autorities and now you're a wanted criminal in their eyes

I think I’m the only guy who likes all music in both soundtracks equally and I used to not like the US soundtrack but it grew on me and I appreciate it a lot.

#14. Palmtree Panic BF US : This song describes a bad future pretty well, this song is really sad too, especially the voice. But it is too boring and meh, fits a bad future but too weird.
#13. Wacky Workbench BF US : I honestly like this song, the electric guitar is awesome! This is just another rock music, I really think it is good, but doesn’t fit a bad future at all. I really think a bad future theme should describes a bad future than making it more fits, actually I really think this song fits the level, background and it makes the foreground really cool.
#12. Stardust Speedway BF JPN : This song is great, well I like the fast-paced, the sirens and all that hues, it really fits a race. But all that, this song don’t fit a bad future like what it should, it’s not feeling like we’re doomed in the worst future, where Robotnik destroyed the world, there are thunders and dark red gas everywhere, with tons of broken sirens. Overall, a mediocre track.
#11. Collision Chaos BF JPN : This song is really good. It is really similliar to the present theme, but more ominous and dark, well I think it fits the stage and that ‘Collision’ welp I think you didn’t understand the joke. It’s like Eggman already destroyed the Pinballs and the fun is over, now he made an whole Eggman Factory with full of deadly pinballs, it destroy you ( Pingas ). Welp this song is good, but it don’t do the bad future that good, I really think this track makes it like the past is no more. An pretty overrated track.
#10. Quartz Quadrant BF JPN : This song is really panicked, it is very fast, it is very serious, it fits the stage, the colours, the background! This song is telling us to really forget this place when you really causing global warming.

Metallic Madness BF JPN : This song is really great, it fits a bad future, fast paced, crazy, panicked, and I really love that melody, the laugh, the whatever game over sounds it makes it so evil. A shame it is pretty hard to listen to the loop, I wish it was in the 2011 Taxman Remaster, it actually feels like Eggman have to re-destroy your hope and feelings, and it feels like you already destroyed the planet, you can’t save it anymore, it is no use.

Quartz Quadrant BF US : This song is really scary, it fits the stage, the middle part is really creepy and very dark, the guitar really makes it more dark, creepy and it is not an bad electric guitar! I love this song for being such an Destroyed-Quartz-Quadrant song, really fits the main gimmick.
#7. Tidal Tempest BF US : This song was really great, it fits a bad future, ominous, scary and the guitar makes it so so so dark! I love this song very much, but it is also as good as the other one, the most loved Japanese Bad Future Soundtrack...
#6. Tidal Tempest BF JPN : This song is evil, creepy, and the middle part is really good, it is creepy, evil and yup very menacing when you steps into this disorted-destroyed-tempest... The last part was awesome it is really disorted, menacing and it really did invokes the danger!
#5. Metallic Madness BF US : This song is really great, I like the serious first part and it really similliar to an factory, but sounds very much menacing. The middle part was another creepy guitar, it is really dark and creepy. After that awesome creepy and full darkness guitar, it has some pretty weird creepy noise, I would scared the heck out when hear that when going to sleep, it is really sad part and it is like “Think about what you could’ve saved, who could you have saved? And you have to pay for what you did” it is really menacing and scary, creepy and dark, it’s like telling us to freaking give up! The final part was another great and awesome guitar, an part that makes the whole soundtrack good, this song is really great and dark, it is also intense and crazy panicked than many other JPN Bad Future Soundtracks.
#4. Palmtree Panic BF JPN : Don’t get me wrong, this is an very intense and dark track, it fits the colors and everything about the disorted Panic Resort, also some noises are really disorting. Not only it uses the whatever fake “yeah!” is just awful, I mean it’s not bad thing but it is sounds really pain and awful fake happy screams, this song is ominous with that and the start, but after first start, it starts to be panicked and crazy!
#3. Collision Chaos BF US : This song is really great, I love the rhythm and it is a very great track with another guitar, this guitar is not normal, oh no! It describes a bad future very good and it makes everything dark, creepy! It is very intense track, I like where the part it is similliar to that Present theme, it’s like remembering the fun. ( talking about the sad part ) It is really an GREAT and CREATIVE track, where it literally saying that the past is no more and now you have to pay for what you did... Only reasons this wasn’t as good as the next one is still an mystery...

Stardust Speedway BF US : Because this track really fits the stage, the bad future, the race because fast-paced, the really great guitar and it makes the race more menacing and no more alarming sirens, it’s not a big deal when this song is already bad future and it says it all when you really listen to this. The loop is the best too, I like the guitar, it’s may even better than that alarming sirens for making the song more panic. It fits the stage background and colors a lot, US Tracks needs more loves.

#1. Wacky Workbench BF JPN : This song is really great, it fits a bad future, I really like the alarming sirens telling us there is AN METLDOWN COMING, it is very intense and menacing first part. Ya wanna know what more intense and more menacing?~ it’s the middle part, it is so creepy and menacing with that similliar to present theme middle part but more scary and creepy, it is also faster and more darker. This song is really disturbing that final scary part, it is so dark and intense soundtrack. It’s even better than the #2 by pretty near but still far, close.

No matter which Bad Future track is your favorite, we can all agree that they convey one thing excellently: It's a good thing that Sonic's always around to stop Dr. Robotnik, because if he wasn’t there won't be much of a future for anyone.
My biggest issue for the U.S. version of palm tree panic is that it doesn’t really belong in a sonic game, it belongs in a horror game of a forest with fog. (Not like slender, something lighter than that.) its a track that plays before any intense moments within said horror game.
One other thing to notice is that some of the bad future U.S. themes share some similar motifs to the past themes
I often get the bad future in Wacky Workbench just to listen to the music.

Stardust Speedway bad future US is my absolute favorite, it has been my ringtone for about 11 years.
The JP version goes well for the stage, but US works as well but as Metal Sonic's theme too; feels that cold evil machine sense and kind of melancholic edgy feel of Metal Sonic in nowadays comics.

The US often gets overlooked because "Palmtree Panic" is the first ost on every playlist and because it's the first level. It's the most generic sounding ost to ever exist on earth and thus giving the US ost a bad first impression despite it being very good and more fitting to the story's tone and implications. I really am curious about how the US ost would've sounded like if they got more than 4 weeks time to create the entire ost

In MY opinion, stardust speed way JP is my favorite bad future. It kind of sounds like a race next to a city because you hear police sirens, and it sounds like present but more "eggman has took over" future and the voice symphony its a chefs kiss.

2:08 it's meant to be upbeat still, Collision Chaos is the only zone to remain functional under Eggman's control
It has that "sin city" kind of vibe to it, which fits the huge flashing neon lights and pinball theme of the stage
Anyway, my ranking:
14. Palmtree Panic US - This is the most boring track in both OSTs. I think the composer wanted to simulate the destruction of the wildlife by incorporating less instruments, but all there is now is percussion and mourning chants. This is just an objectively bad track.
13. Quartz Quadrant JP - I really like the shouts of "Whoa, forget this place", but this is just a fast paced version of the present theme without sounding evil enough, while still frantic in the wrong way. If the mine collapsed and you have to break through, it would fit better.
12. Tidal Tempest JP - This is a really evil track, but it doesn't fit an underwater level at all. Treating Quartz Quadrant this way would fit it very well, though.
11. Collision Chaos US - This takes the already bleak Collision Chaos Present and makes it significantly more evil, but I really don't like the melody in the first place. It at least fits a bad future, which I can't say about the next track...
10. Collision Chaos JP - This track, on the other hand, is fast and bouncy, but doesn't fit a bad future at all. It falls way short of the mark, especially compared to the Present and Good Future themes.
9. Wacky Workbench US - This track also isn't evil enough. Both it and Collision Chaos JP could be great Act 2 themes for Sonic Mania, though.
8. Palmtree Panic JP - This track is very evil and serves as a great first impression, just like all Palmtree Panic JP tracks. However, something a little more solemn and bleak (like Tidal Tempest US and Quartz Quadrant US) would fit a natural zone better. Palmtree Panic US could have been great... if it only had some personality.
7. Stardust Speedway JP - This track is iconic, and is nowadays basically Metal Sonic's theme throughout the franchise. However, it still doesn't really suit a bad future.
6. Quartz Quadrant US - This track sounds really evil without sounding frantic or panicky. This is the kind of vibe I want from natural areas. Of course, mines are also quite mechanical, and JP would sound good if it was more evil.
5. Metallic Madness US - The rather underwhelming Present theme suddenly gets a boost of energy and becomes a very evil and menacing Bad Future theme. I really love the electric guitar throughout this rocking track. Now let's add something to make it completely unique...
4. Metallic Madness JP - What makes this track so good, in my opinion, is the rapping vocals, which belong to Robotnik himself. "Sonic, dead or alive, is mine" sounds so evil. "You can't do anything, so don't even try" is even better, and directly contradicts the opening theme. If "You can do anything" gives you hope, this track exudes the feelings of failure and despair.
3. Tidal Tempest US - This track is similar to Quartz Quadrant in its overall atmosphere, but is even scarier and fits an underwater level perfectly. The female vocals sound like they're short of breath, symbolizing drowning and again fits the stage very well.
2. Stardust Speedway US - This is just a really good track, one of the absolute best of the two OSTs and even technically better than the next track. It also fits the race really well.
1. Wacky Workbench JP - This is by far the scariest track of them all, well fitting of an abandoned munitions factory and whatever the hell can be found there. Sonic could stumble upon leaking atomic bombs for all we know.
I think Quartz Quadrant JP is one of the best bad future themes. It feels panicked and intense, and greatly contrasts the cheeriness of the present theme. It’s also a banger.

*14. Palmtree Panic JPN: 6.25/10*
The execution with the melody and instruments make this track very weak and weird. Despite being a childhood favorite and being the first Sonic CD level theme that I ever heard, I no longer love this track anymore because of it's weaknesses. I cannot fathom this track anymore, and I would go as far as to say it's easily the worst Bad Future from Sonic CD.
*13. Stardust Speedway JPN: 6.5/10*
I use to like this track quite a lot, but I've seen the cracks of it. It doesn't fit the Bad Future or Stardust Speedway almost at all. Overall, it's a very weak track. It has terrible execution with the vocals. I get that the composers were going with a police chase type of feel, but it honestly doesn't work well. It could only describe the city in the background, and that's it.
*C Tier: OK*
*12. Wacky Workbench US: 7.4/10*
This track has a good melody, but it's execution is a bit weak. It definitely fits the Bad Future, that's for sure, and it certainly has a haunting/depressing feel to it. The only issue that massively plagues this track is it's weirdness. I'd personally consider this the worst US Bad Future, and that's quite the statement considering that I use to regard this track as a 2nd place to my all time favorite track, Wacky Workbench Good Future US.
*11. Collison Chaos US: 7.75/10*
Better than the Good Future, but some parts are just OK. This track just sounds really weird, and strange for my tastes. It fits the mood that a Bad Future should have, but I don't think this track would strongly Collision Chaos well. I only really like the part where it sounds similar to the present theme, and the snare rhythm towards the end. Overall, this is a mediocre track in regards to how high both OSTs overall average.
*B Tier: Good*
*10. Quartz Quadrant JPN: 8.4/10*
I like how this one is a remix of the first half of the present while the Good Future is the second half. Speaking of the second half, that part of this song is either it's best part or it's weakest par because it is cluttered and oversaturated. Even though it's a mixed bag there, I do think this track fits the outside and especially the inside parts of Quartz Quadrant.
*9. Tidal Tempest US: 8.5/10*
It fits the level well, sounds hopeless, and is downright depressing. It's biggest weakness is that it sounds too mature, and some of the high-pitched notes and screaming are ear grating. The part at the end where it loops however sounds phenomenal.
*8. Metallic Madness JPN: 8.6/10*
This fits the final level very well, and I like the lyrics. This track is openly more sinister than the US version, and I like that quite a lot. The unused loop is very good, and the broken, worn down feel of this track is so fitting for what is Robotnik's base in the Bad Future.
*7. Metallic Madness US: 8.8/10*
This track is very great for a final Bad Future due to it's cinematic nature. The atmosphere of this track is it's biggest strength is that it's simultaneously sad and hopeful. It's industrial and mechanical feel fit Metallic Madness well, and the parts towards the end are what narrowly carries this track over it's Japanese counterpart. The loop for this track is also really great.
*A Tier: Great!*
*6. Stardust Speedway US: 9.0/10*
I'm back to loving this track again. I have really started to realize just how great this sounds on headphones with the guitar. As previously stated in earlier versions of this comment, this track really fits Stardust Speedway and the Bad Future well. I even think it fits Metal Sonic himself and the race against him as this track really fits the serious atmosphere the penultimate Bad Future should have.
*5. Quartz Quadrant US: 9.25/10*
I love the vocals, scares, bassline, and the feeling of despair it brings. It truly sounds like Robotnik won, and all hope is lost. This track, like it's Good Future counterpart, has a very futuristic feel to it which gives it a slight edge over it's JPN counterpart.
*4. Tidal Tempest JPN: 9.3/10*
This is amazing. I really forgot just how amazing this one is. This track is quite industrial, futuristic, well distorted, and I like the unused loop at the end. This is very fitting for a withering, polluted water factory in the Bad Future.

I like the execution with the African-like mood. This track is very fitting for a Bad Future in my opinion. The melody is amazing. The percussion is great, and I like the feeling of danger and sadness this track gives off, which the album version does even better.
*2. Collision Chaos JPN: 9.6/10*
I really forgot just how good this one is. After listening to this one more recently, I think this is the second best Bad Future theme in the game. I like the bassline, the percussion, melody, the unused loop, and the guitar. It fits the level really well. It's really evil, and it's execution is done in a manner how it's not too much or too little.
*1. Wacky Workbench JPN: 9.7/10*
It's intense, and fits Wacky Workbench along with the Bad Future. I love the industrial alarms and the climax where it's so sinister. The unused loop is so great, and the execution of the main melody and sub melodies makes this a track that's so good that I actually covered it for Sonic's 30th Anniversary.

Tbh i can agree with ocean on wacky workbench US bad future. The place is in absolute chaos and yet they play dance music? But for stardust speedway JP bad future it does sound fast paced. Even the sirens envoke danger.
Btw someone who can agree that wacky workbench JP bad future sounds perfect for a bad future theme. Its chaotic, evil, and dangerous. Makes me want to leave. And the sirens used is perfect for portraying "danger" or "warning"
I'll just add the the jp metallic madness has lyrics such as you can't do anything or don't even try basically telling you to give up contrasting the opening you can do anything heavily which makes the ost even greater
JP soundtrack sounds more fun and cool. Under this soundtrack, you only want to dance, but certainly not be afraid of Eggman's atrocities. @ But the US soundtrack sounds more atmospheric and serious, which is funny because I think the Japanese Sonic is much more serious than the American one.

In my opinion stardust speedway JP fits pretty well because the present and past soundtracks have jazz or have calming music because there's nothing going wrong where in the bad future, the music is exciting because it gives sonic a rushing feeling to go back and break the robot transporter for a good future, also fitting in with the metal sonic race, seeing as robotnik has a laser seeing whoever loses, dies. This is why in my opinion, speedway should be in a higher rank
Lemme tell u a story: Once opon a time When I was tails but the robot generators were already destroyed like in wacky workbench I only destroyed the metal sonic projectors but when I was done It said I got a good future but it was a bad future and I had jp music on but when I finished the boss. It said I got a good future. So when u go into the past and only destroy the metal sonic projectors because the robot generators are destroyed already then u get the good future song.
WHY IS STARDUST SPEEDWAY NUMBER 12 THIS MUSIC SLAPS THE MOST OUT OF THE SONIC CD JP SOUNDTRA- but i guess it also doesn't fit with a bad future so i guess thats why
