- This is the AMT 1970 Challenger RT Vanishing Point issue. After doing my kit review and history video. I started messing with this kit. Here is where I'm at now with it.

Your Vanishing Point Challenger is progressing nicely! Vanishing Point is one of my all-time favorite movies. Of course, I was just 16 when I saw it so that may have something to do with my liking the movie! lol

Looking really nice. The North American release of the film isn't the real movie, you have to watch the UK version that is 7 minutes longer. The movie bombed in the US but in the UK with the extended version it was a hit. The 7 minutes was cut in the North American release by the film studio in fear of the public reaction. Film makers have to quit censoring their material fearing the public's reaction, they seem to get it wrong most of the time. Not saying the 7 minutes made the difference but it added to the storyline of the hitchhiker.

My favorite Challenger kit is that one with the glue on top. Which is a bit tricky to place. Great job on the research. 👍👍👍

I cut the top of the dash from the VP (has grille and details) and glue it to the half dash from the AMT challenger (with the right gauges).👷♂️
I thought about doing that but decided not to. Mainly because I had already glued that dash together but didn’t use it.

The Vanishing Point Versions I Believe Were Best Of this Kit By the Time it Came Out AMT Had Revised the Upper Windshield Rail & Protected it From Sagging & Warping. Also these Versions Had 3 Hoods. I Was Disappointed Tin Box Reverted to Early Pre Vanishing Point Stripped Down issues of the Kit
AMT has done a lot of revisions to this tool over the years. Changed seats, dash, hoods, wheels, removed the conv boot, hemi like 440 valve covers and dual quad intake but 440 six pack decals. Lost shaker but added pop open gas cap. Still has non Magnum style log manifolds.

for research there's a graveyard cars episode on the vanishing point cart that gives all the details on the car
None of the original 5 cars exist. They were returned to Chrysler and supposedly destroyed. Nobody knows if they were ever sold and the vins are not known. It is said that when filming was finished, they were pretty beat up and some didn't run. Chrysler just wrote them off as they were not worth fixing and selling as used when you could still but new ones. The car on Graveyard cars was from the remake movie.
@@TheMuscleCarModeler actually the car on gc was a tribute car built out of a donor car, my point was the references and tech info he gave on the car plus lots of still photo's from the original movie, i won't even admit the remake exists. the movie was about a cop with PTSD who had taken so much Amphetamine that he was hallucinating believing the world was trying to get him, that's why he was running and couldn't stop. but it was a cool car movie
I think the episode I watched was actually Stephens Performance. I think they supplied the Challengers for the remake and after filming restored the best one and put a Hemi in it after filming was done.
@TheMuscleCarModeler in my opinion, how you separate the real Mopar guy from the weekender is real .mopar peeps want a 440, hemi is a buzz word designed to make the non tech sound like they know what they are talking about.
Looking good Rob. Love the movie and the challenger. I built one a few years ago but I didn't use the VP kit. Why they used a convertible for that kit escapes me. I. Used wheels, tires and the carburetor from fireball. Btw, the remake really sucks. It has none of the soul or spirituality of the original

I want to make this car too. I saw the original movie many times, I like the quiet story line with 70s bad editing and car chase movies. I started watching the new movie(not new now) and was turned off when it showed them running around the Neptunes in the plane parts yard and the smallest spark set them on fire. The planes are defueled as soon as they get there. I stopped watching it at that point. Anyway, I have a resin body with the roof already on and the older conv. kit. This will be interesting to make sure it's correct. How different is the 383 from the 440? are they the same block? I saw one photo of the car in the desert with the camera rigging on it and dirty and that's how I want to depict it. I don't know which scenes used the 383 car. I think one of the screen used cars is in a museum now, think it's from the first movie.
Thank you! The 383 and 440 are very identical in scale. The real engines, a 440 block is taller, and the intake is wider but not noticeable in scale.

When I heard of the "Vanishing Point" Challenger 1/25 scale model, I was hoping it was a new tooling like the '70 Hemi Cuda and AAR Cuda. It's not. No hurry to get that one. I already had it and hated the separate roof. Wouldn't surprise me the lame brains will have a T/A Challenger 1/25 scale using this same lame body. Thanks for the information.

I did build one long ago but gave it away. Revell did do a plastic version of this same kit but being die cast. It has a few issues as well. www.ebay.com/itm/166819531478
@@TheMuscleCarModeler I had a snap together '72 Challenger one piece body but the grille and tail light panel was one piece with it. Would've took some work to convert to a '70. I thought I heard of a 1/25 scale new tooling Challenger T/A. Is that true? That'd be a highly desirable.
That yellow box art 70 Challenger RT is a 2in1 and is also a TA. It’s 1/25 and the only kit I know of that was a new tool. It was only issued that one time in plastic in 2008. It was not well received at the time. Now you may be able to combine it with the Revell 1/25 70 AAR Cuda.
@@TheMuscleCarModeler So, there was one. I wonder just how bad it was to not have available anymore. I like the T/A hood-scoop just as well as the AAR Cuda's . That's one I'd love to have to go with the Hemi. The Cuda's Hemi has a unique block unlike other Hemi's like the '68-'69 Charger drag race version engine. It's the engine mounts.

Just my opinion. Leave the convertible as is. Even though a non correct color it’s beautiful and represents a time in your modeling history. You’ve got so much inventory and knowledge, just build a new one with your current skills
I plan to and have plenty of these kits in my stash.
