    I own this wheel and absolutely love it. I was given the 11 inch as a gift, and after a few months I upgraded to the 14 inch wheel.
    The legs are adjustable, although I raised it a bit higher. The only modification I made is drilling for bat pins.
    I can't emphasize this enough, I'm thrilled with the wheel and I use it every day.

    Thank you! I've been so curious about these cheap wheels but don't want to risk the money.
    The screws are socket heads, usually 1/4" in the US. Plus 1/4" wingnuts for easy removal/installation.

    Thank you for the review, in the Uk we call them “cap screws” or “socket machine screws” the hand tool used pre drilling is called a “centre punch” to make a pop mark to keep the drill on the mark when drilling.
    I think your review is very good but does show up some areas lacking .
    As you say the electrics potentially exposed to ingress of water would not meet safety standards here in the UK but unfortunately typical of cheap Chinese made equipment.
    The black box on the power lead I suspect is a thermal overload protection which will trip out if the motor is overheating or under too much load. The button is to reset it after a period of time.
    The legs could do with being 18” long at least adjustable to make it usable when sitting on a low chair.
    Even lacking an area for tools and water is a poor oversight and could have been incorporated into the water tray ( which didn’t appear to have any drain features.)
    I also suspect that it’s power at slow speed is poor compared with its rated power at full speed, I an of course assuming it is direct drive .
    I think as a taster introduction to throwing it’s probably ok but the company could do so much better for very little more cost improving stability, storage and safety.
    I looked at the link for the stamp supplier and agree that we should all support Ukraine in their struggles even through supporting small business.

      Thanks. I do think that at just 10% of the price of the big brand wheels its very OK. I use it also as a second wheel for sectional throwing and it works well for this. I also know workshops where they use them for students. Setting up 10 wheels for this naturally makes it MUCH cheaper!

    Great to see you back. Do you think one could buy some pipe to make longer legs for the wheel? How did you raise it?

    • @deMibPottery
      @deMibPottery  3 місяці тому +3

      I raised to the max height and put it on a box. But I think its too light for longer legs so probably need a more solid stand

      I saw someone mention that they’d used bed risers under neath the feet and it helped. Perhaps worth looking into.

    I like the pockets you have by the window. I found some at IKEA here in California. But I can't figure out a way to attach them to my table. What did you use?

    • @deMibPottery

      I got them in Ikea too including the stick to hang them

    Hi, that tiny motor is going to burn out quickly if this wheel is used for large pots. It strains when centring, groaning like an old buffalo.
    Looks to be a good little wheel for hobby potters though

      This one is actually not very noisy. Wilol it last as long as a Shimpo? Probably not. But you can buy 10 of them for the price of a Shimpo, Bret or Skutt :-)

      @@deMibPottery definitely a bargain. I was impressed with the results you got (surprised when you started with such a big lump of clay after seeing the underside of the wheel)but the poor motor did look very small so I wasn't surprised it struggled at first.

      I’ve been using this exact wheel almost daily for 7 months (typically throw things with 500g-10lbs) - Still works great. Sure, it has its own intricacies and isn’t as smooth as a shimpo but you get used to it. For the price of it.. I have no complaints.

    is adding bat pins necessary for a beginner? i want this wheel but i dont have a drill and cant do that part

    • @deMibPottery
      @deMibPottery  Місяць тому +1

      No, I just prefer to throw on bats using pins. You can throw without - as many do, or attach the bat with a flat layer of clay

    $2000+ I guess if you want to become professional then the investment is worth it. Because you obviously have a business bringing in funds. Until then a cheaper version is absolutely fine

      If you can afford it then I do reccomend the big brand wheels
