I bought this wheel a couple of years ago, it is still working great. I did have the exact same problem with the foot pedal not coming to a complete stop, I unscrewed the mechanics it was just a slight misalignment in the grooves so I just adjusted aligned slightly, it has been working fine since. I did drill bat pin holes in it too.

I was going to say the exact same things.
Ive had this same wheel but with the 10”wheel head for 3 years now. Added bat pins and fixed the pedal(2 minute fix). Still going strong.
I would definitely suggest buying one with at least a 12” wheel head though. 10” bats with holes are harder to come by.
I figured I could invest $125 to try the hobby and if I outgrow the wheel I can upgrade to an expensive one then.

I am having the same issue with the peddle, but I’m not familiar with the mechanics. Any suggestions for a resource or video that may help adjust myself?

I have a wheel very similar to this that I use at home. It’s been awesome for the last three years and still no issues. It’s portable so I take it a me when I do the local farmers markets. My wheel didn’t stop the first few times, when I contacted them; they replied that it had to learn variables. Now it stops every single time and has awesome control. I do hate how low they sit and it’s on bricks. But that wheel has made me close to 18,000 this year alone from doing the farmers markets with kids. Absolutely love these.

I've used quite a few Brents over the years; in college, my classrooms, and it's what I currently have at home. They make a good wheel. However, when I'm ready to get a new one, I'll be looking at the Thomas Stuart from Skutt. They have a lot of power, and I love the large, built in splash pan.

I have had the exact same wheel for almost 2 years and love it. I can throw up to 5 pounds on it. I drilled holes and put in pins.

You drilled pins to allow removable bats?

I've watched a few budget pottery wheel reviews and this one was the first that explained that they are offered in a few sizes, and that the 14" is the largest one. Placing it on bricks seems like a simple & effective solution for making it a little higher. I'm glad to hear that other posters here have solved the foot pedal issue with a simple adjustment. I'm just looking for an inexpensive wheel for dabbling with pottery occasionally for fun & this looks like a good option.
    Thanks for the review.

It arrived yesterday. $220 delivered on eBay. The motor & foot control work great. I'm very pleased with the size and the build quality. It will need a brick under each leg, but that's no big deal. I'm planning to drill the head for bat pins.

Some of the reviews of these budget wheels have mentioned that the wheel heads are not machined as smooth as the high-end wheels. So, I figured I'd try smoothing mine up a bit before using it with clay. I just used a new 4" wide putty knife to run across the surface of the wheel as it spun at low speed. It removed the roughness in just a few minutes, and then I ran a Scotchbrite pad over it for a few more minutes. It really made a difference & was very easy. There was a good bit of aluminum dust in the splash pan, which I cleaned before using it with clay.
I've also seen potters on UA-cam that use flexible tar paper for pottery mats, that they attach using clay slip. I think I'll try that before drilling the bat pin holes. It seems like a cheap & simple material for bats.

Maybe use it as a trimming wheel. I have a second wheel that I keep a Giffen Grip set-up on. Looks like it would work well for it. Hoping to visit your town next year! Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Thanks Matthew! The orange one is what I got and it’s the one that it’s lowest speed will spin something right off the wheel if you’re not careful. It only has a hand control and I couldn’t see any adjustment after you had mentioned there might be one. Glad to see this one actually slows down. I appreciate such a thorough review.

I've been practicing throwing since 2007 havn't had a private home studio before & I am finally ready to begin the new journey as I'm looking to buy my first wheel...so I really was glad you did this review. Thank you. i am looking at the SHIMPO LT WHISPER Quiet lightweight and should be able to Handle 25 Pounds.12" bat with pin holes, Adjustable variable speed and left or right turn. Quiet, variable dependable pedal control and a light but solid device is what I need. it's on sale right now for about $850 it includes shipping But may take up to 16 weeks to deliver.

The looseness of the tray suggests that it will not hold water and will leak.
The problem with the foot pedal is something to be taken very seriously and the fact it cannot be adjusted is a big no no.
However, in it's is that it has good variable speed control which is extremely important.
Obviously it's impossible to know how it will hold out over time, and what the costs of necessary repairs would be!
With many things nowadays, repairs are so expensive that it's cheaper to buy a new one.
For a beginner as long as it's under $300 I guess I'd give it a go.

Pottery is such an expensive hobby I understand people wanting to save money but it's a losing it's a losing proposition. I bought a lower end Potters wheel a speedball clay boss would have had nothing but perfect luck with I've had no issues whatsoever with I'm very happy with it and I know it's not a top of the line wheel but I've been able to make gigantic pots with 20lb pots easy without the slightest slowdown. I can't even remember where I paid for it seven $800? It was on sale you have to be willing to spend money if you want to through parts it's basically comes down to that.

Bought the 36cm last month because it had a lot of good reviews. Unfortunately, the wheel head is off-centered and wobbling. VEVOR's customer service is the worst I have ever encountered. Their website says 30-day no-hassle returns, but getting a new wheel has been the biggest hassle ever! Their first reply was for me to wait 3 weeks for a repair kit so that I could fix it myself. We've gone back and forth several times and each time they refuse to let me return the wheel - they keep upping the incentive to keep it. So far they're giving me $125 to keep it. Does anyone know how to fix it? I have no idea and now I'm stuck with an off-centered pottery wheel.

It's easy to smooth the head using a 4" putty knife to scrape across the head while it spins. After that you can rub it with a Scotchbrite or sandpaper to make it even smoother.
