- Rue McClanahan talks about the casting of The Golden Girls and Brandon Tartikoff. Weird that she did the 1997 interview a few months after she was diagnosed with cancer. Anyway Happy New Year everyone!
One of the nicest people in show business that was lost.
She was perfect!
+Bitch Puddin please tell us more if you can

Miss uu rip beautiful angel
Oh blanche you are the best.
What an excellent actor! That would have been very fun to meet her! I would have loved to have had the opportunity to sit down with her and have lunch and talk!
Actually, in the second clip Rue isn't talking about any director. She's eulogizing Brandon Tartikoff, one of the most successful network executives that NBC ever had. He helped create big hits like the Cosby Show, Cheers, The A-Team, Miami Vice and of course Golden Girls.
Rue, im not interested in Maude and Vivian meet Sue and nivens. That is what bea said
I was. To apply the quote from Rue on going from original concept Aunt Fran to aired version - Bea 'went from a force to a drip' when she went from Maude 'and then there's Maude' Findley to Dorothy 'manless, loser butt of ugly and big jokes' Zbornak. I watch and cringe. Thank God for my Maude collection.
@@BrunetteOnTheCouch disagree. I love Dorothy Zbornak.
I thought they killed her off Mama’s family because she was already doing Golden Girls?
Apparently not! :)
No, there was some years between both shows
Yeah, they had cancelled Mama's Family in 1984 and Golden Girls began in 1985. The syndicated version of Mama's Family started in 1986. So I'm guessing Rue was putting all that together, even though the NBC version of Mama's Family was cancelled before they decided to have Fran killed off in 1986. Even Vicki Lawrence said that since Rue and Betty went on to Golden Girls, they had to reconfigure the whole cast, which is why Iola and Bubba were cast.
Rue is mistaken here. They killed off Aunt Fran in the beginning of the 1986-87 season, when Mama came back for first run syndication. They killed her because she was starting season 2 of The Golden Girls. Betty came back as Ellen for one episode in the fall of 1986.
Correct. I have a feeling Rue was asked about returning for at least one episode (like Betty White did), but declined so they had her character die offscreen by fatally inhaling a catfish bone in the ladies room of the Bigger Jigger, I believe. Mama’s Family was cancelled in 1984, freeing up Betty White and Rue McClanahan to do the Golden Girls. It was probably the success of the Golden Girls that made Mama’s Family so popular in reruns that it was brought back to life in syndication for four more years (1986-1990).
I loved aunt fran but
Why did she look so puffed up already in 1997 and around 1999/2000 she looked normal and eventually during the 2000s she puffed up again?
It's called aging Rue had gotten older as the year's went by
