Bea Arthur was a very intelligent and well spoken. She definitely didn’t take crap from anyone and was one powerful woman
Love her!
"woman" ;)
like the way she handled the interviewerv😘
@@galinageorgieva8554 well she is a woman just like you :)
She was also a heavy drinker.
The World will never again the same without these 4 Ladys. They were the best in every way. It was fait and nothing else..
I loved them so much
The day I discovered the Golden girls I couldn’t stop watching it. Wish it never ended 🥰
Me ha pasado igual!! He visto las 7 temporadas,y ahora las volveré a ver desde el principio 😊. Qué serie excelente!!! Amo a estas personas!!!!
I was lucky enough to be really young on its original run. I remember my grandmother watching it. Rediscovered it when I was in my late teens and never looked back! ❤
I play golden girls every day for my daughter and I (my daughter turns two in September and still loves golden girls!). What a timeliness show. Absolutely love it. ❤️❤️
There was also The Golden Palace (with all of them in that tv show) good also but not as good as the Golden Girls
Bea was also a U.S Marine in WW2
Growing up watching her from "All In The Family" and Maude" initially, I was always a fan. When "Golden Girls" happened then the Fleetwood Mac album "Tango In The Night" was released, while watching a music video seeing Christine McVie, they reminded me of each other.
"During World War II, [she] enlisted as one of the first members of the United States Marine Corps Women's Reserve in 1943.
After boot camp, she served as a typist at Marine headquarters in Washington, D.C. In June 1943, the Marine Corps accepted her transfer request to the Motor Transport School at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
[She] then worked as a truck driver and dispatcher in Cherry Point, North Carolina, between 1944 and 1945. She was honorably discharged at the rank of staff sergeant in September 1945." 💯👍
Yes she was❤❤❤❤❤❤
I miss them all. So happy we got to see them in so many great shows.
It's weird to think how much older they seemed at that time, and how much younger they seem by today's standard. Betty White was the oldest of the group and she was only 63 here. She had a career for 35 more years, who would have guessed? Rue sadly didn't make it to 84, but she was still entertaining up until she died as well.
They look about 80 by todays standards lol. But I think they look fabulous
I know what you mean but 64 is old - its only 6 years away from 70- and 20 years older than 44 (whixh is middle age).
@@arlenecerf883394 is old (unless you're Mel Brooks). My dad is 74 and he runs 50 mile races several times a month. Age is just a number. 64 was old 30 years ago, it's not that old today.
@@-Ricky_Spanish- the point I’m making is 64 is still old biologically and by society’s standards. Old doesn’t have to equal negative connotations. Old does not mean sick and deathly- it just means advance in age. Old is just a number and can mean fit and healthy. So I don’t know why you’re trying to push the narrative that 64 is youth when illogically it isn’t!
@@-Ricky_Spanish- you can be old and healthy and vice versa- young and sickly. What I’m saying is stop trying to reinvent the wheel and accept aging with grace. There is nothing wrong with the term and label, old . Only people who are ageist and youth centric would protest otherwise. I’m 65 and I’m sure as hell am old. I’m a grandma of 3 young teens and proudly so. I am fit, able and compos mentis
The Golden Girls is a show I would watch with my grandmother when I was a lot younger. It gives me feelings of nostalgia.
Bea, Betty, Rue and Estelle, together, were lightning in a bottle. Each of the four actors absolutely brilliant, each with undeniable comedic timing, but put together, the universe conspired to create something truly magical. And now they are immortal.
Betty is sooo beautiful here, even in her 60s. She radiates youth, elegance, and attractiveness in every way. You can tell she was quite the firecracker back in her day even here 😊
This is incredible how society and life was so different when this was filmed. Listen to the talking points and the composure the ladies had. It’s weird how we know so much more about topics and things now but we don’t have these types of intellectual discussions anymore.
most talk shows today are always trying to thing of what would go viral instead of making (or i should say prioritizing) engaging content
Thats such an intelligent comment. I Just Love everything about it
Can you imagine anyone on a talk show today casually using the word omnipotent? 😂
@@davidc5278 OMG! No I don't
I love how Bea put dude in his place when he said something out of bounds 😂
I never liked Bea.

rest in golden heaven beautiful ladies, such elegant, classy & talented women
Watching this, I find it hard to believe that Beatrice and Betty didn't get along.
In the early years it was a very happy experience for all of them. However, as the show went on, Bea grew less and less happy. She was the last to win an Emmy and Betty was the first, which Bea didn't like. In addition, Betty's upbeat demeanor and joking around with the audience between takes got under Bea's skin.
@joshuaseils2567 actually Betty used to make fun of Estelle in front of a live studio audience during her onset of dementia when she would write lines on her hand. The other women did not like this and her attitude. This is in The Directors book. You are citing Betty's reasons leaving out everyone else's and Bea never spoke ill of her in public. Betty spoke when Bea wasn't around to speak anymore to state facts.
@@tqueen7131 This is true, and it seems insensitive, though Joel Thurm said she was probably just trying to keep the audience laughing in between takes, and Stan Zimmerman said she was possibly trying to steer attention away from Estelle so that she could collect herself. I guess we'll never know
I don't believe they "didn't get along" generally, but may have had disagreements now and then. Several times during interviews together like this one they touch and I don't think they're faking it.
@@joshuaseils2567 Bea said in one interview that she gets bored doing the same thing for very long- she didn't go on with "Mame" for it's full run and tour with Lansbury, wrapped on "Maude" after just under six years, and about the same with "Golden Girls".
The magic of the „Golden Girls“ lies in its authenticity: You can see the characters in the actresses, which means they felt comfortable in their roles, because they were able to relate. Fan for almost 20 yrs ❤
It's interesting how the youngest of them Estelle played the oldest and how the oldest of them Betty played the youngest. I loved them and they made magic together!! Rest well Golden Girls you did well.🙏🏾❤️
Rue was the youngest by a good few years ☺️
@@jamaaliqbal5237
Yes. Was coming here to say that. 😊
@@jamaaliqbal523712 years apart.
The youngest was actually Rue McClanahan. She was about ten years younger than the other three.
I always thought Rue was supposed to be the youngest.
Still the best show on TV never can be replaced! Love my GGs❤❤❤
Talk shows were soooooo good back then. Just fun and entertaining with loads of talent.
You're right.
Rue was a lovely lady and somehow seemed to get more lovely with each passing year on the show. Thanks for the upload.
The Golden Girls still makes me laugh out loud, after all these years. One of the best creations for television viewing.
Thank you ladies for being our friends . It was great seeing these ladies perform together.
Will always love these ladies - They're my favorite 🥰
Where did the rumor that Bea and Betty didn't get along come from? They held hands on occasion in solidarity in this clip. These four broads ( I use that as a compliment) are iconic!!! I grew up on Mary Tyler Moore where I was introduced to Betty and Bea and Rue on Maude. What a time. These gals are well missed. R.I.P. Thanks for the belly laughs!!!
They were two strong willed people and they were almost polar opposites in a lot of ways (they had plenty in common as well but the differences lead to some tension). Two people like that working together for years are bound to have some issues. All four ladies were great friends, just some pairings got along better than others. They didn’t hate each other or have any fights (until near the end of the show they had some very big differences and their largest disagreement over how the show was going as well as the treatment of Estelle as she was losing her memory). I think in the end though they all truly cared about each other.
No one is perfect I think thats why golden girls was created yes they were friends But they even had fights and I think thats like thats normal. I think thats what golden girls show was all about they were real.
This was early on in the series and the tension built up over the years. Their acting methods were extremely different. Bea was very methodical and calculated as she had more theatre background. It was strictly serious work for her while performing. Betty White had been on TV sitcoms for more years and with less theatre. She was very light and spontaneous. She could often take breaks and joke with the studio audience. This annoyed Bea to no end because it wasn’t her style at all.
@@finster1968 You're absolutely right. In the early years it was a very happy experience for all of them, but the other three ladies came from a theater background and Betty's breaking of the "fourth wall" joking around with the audience really got under Bea's skin.
This interview took place around Episode six when the show was in its second month of airing. So it was new and a happy time. Once the Emmys rolled in the next year, there was no turning back.
Omg, I grew up watching these phenomenal women and I still watch them today! RIP u amazing women 💜🙏
The beigeness of the studio and the girls is so overwhelmingly 1980s! Takes me right back to the chat shows of the time. It is so long ago.. and yet it feels like yesterday.
I hope this video never leaves the internet.
Been enjoying these ladies for decades, and I can't get enough. Love my girls.
I have saved all the episodes and can watch one every now and then to brighten up my day. Even here in Germany in the German translation. You don't necessarily understand every joke in the original.
They all looked terrific here
I still watch it every night on hallmark channel!!!❤❤
One of the frustrating things about watching these interviews with the ladies while the show was airing is that the hosts invariably trot out the same old talking points. These are brilliant actresses with interesting careers and they can never get beyond "Old women! WHAT?!"
Good on Bea for calling it out anyway though ❤
What are you talking about?
@@DaisyPusher?
Did he really say “oh like a Pakistani”?
Merv was a creep. The way he keeps leaning off the edge of his desk into the womens space is bullish and just weird. And his questions are incredibly sexist and offensive. He was a heavy hitter and could have made any of their careers difficult. I love seeing these incredible actresses and still adore watching The Golden Girls. But thank God these type of men are on the way out.
These women knew how to handle men like him in a very smart way. They had to over their time in show business. Sexism is real and these ladies, God bless them, were really professional. Love each of them for their work & service!
Class acts is what these ladies are, always & forever ❤
What a wonderful cast and a greatly written and acted show. TV today can't hold a candle to what shows like the Golden Girls, Fraiser and Will & Grace had.
This is so lovely. I was 20 when this came out, 59 now and it seems like a whole other universe...The clothes they are wearing, and the beigeness is indeed dated - but it WORKS for these lovely ladies.
And oddly, even though they are pretty much my age they look elderly to me.
The "beigeness" is what made the show a success!
I think people are looking a bit younger these days. A 50 something these days could pass for 40. In the 80s, if you were over 50 you kinda looked it. But it doesn't matter since these ladies looked absolutely beautiful! So classy and hip!
I adored them all! I have seen the series countless times. Talented wonderful women ❤❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing.a treat to see these four powerhouse, talented, and gorgeous looking women together on the stage being themselves.estelle getty and bea arthur fascinate me.bea arthur was always stylishly dressed.
Merv clearly didnt know he was speaking to a damn Marine!!!
Bea was right about the ageism and I am so glad she called him out on it.
When i was young like 15 watching these ladies i thought they were old now at 58 these ladies look so young and beautiful its funny how your mind works as a teen these ladies are really stunning!! ❤
Estelle is an outstanding public speaker!
RIP, To ALL of them!! Born in 1980, my loved ones used to watch that show faithfully and loved it. AND WHO CAN FORGET THE THEME SONG?!! Great times, 80s was the BEST!!
I still love watching all the re runs. What awesome ladies these 4 were !!
Bea was a hilarious person ❤
They dont make sitcoms like this one anymore, a classic, and people stayed home on Saturday nights for its 9pm time slot.
Bettie White❤ I loved you since i was 10
I love the bond and love..I wish a had a golden squad❤
These Golden Girls forever in our hearts ❤
They were wonderful❤
Not one of them had swollen filler duck lips..shaved Elf noses..Huge white capped teeth and..Long hair like a teenager. AND they look Fantastic ! ✨
I think Rue had a nose job.
Merv griffin showing his ignorance. "Oh you mean like a pakistani?" No, she means an indian...
Ignorance shmignorance. They were part of the same country not long ago and what else was he supposed to compare them to??
@charlesterry2480 lmao "not long ago"... pakistan was created in 1947 and this interview was done in 1985...you don't need to create a comparison it's really quite simple. There are Indians and there are Pakistanis...
@@david18ireland uhh cool? What does it have to do with what I just said?
Bea is very intelligent 😊
I miss my girls so much ❤ back in the day. I used to faithfully watch the show .
I LOVE THE GOLDEN GIRLS........YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
She acts just like Dorothy here lol
And Rue is acting like Blanche 😭 that’s not even her real accent 😂
It was the 'Age of Pastel.'
THEE ICONIC MISS BETTY WHITE!!!!!!
I love how Estelle is so articulate here. She is my favorite then Bea, then Rue and Betty. I just love them. I can't count the times I have watched The Golden Girls series, and I am just on my 30s.
Betty last?!?
A truly great work of art like this show was tends to appeal to all ages. I loved this show as a kid. More recently someone's 10 year old son was telling me it's his favorite show. He watches the reruns 30+ years after it originally aired! He loves Sofia the best. 😊
Betty was such a prickhead @@DaisyPusher
This is so great.
Merv actually made it on an episode when they played jeopardy with Alex tribeck
I had a group of golden girls too. I was definetly dorothy 😂
My soul ladies I LOVE THE GOLDEN GIRLS
Omg Betty was so damn funny 😂
Love these four old broads
If you guys watch Hot in Cleveland sometime, there is a wonderful episode with Betty who is always on the show. They brought in Mary Tyler Moore two times. Cloris Leachman and Valerie Harper. Reunion of sorts. Plus Georgia Engel is on the show as Betty’s best friend. Another episode has Marla Gibbs. Carl Reiner, etc. etc. A lot of our old favorites as guest stars. Its great. Even Carol Burnett has been on Hot in Cleveland. Whole bunch of guest stars. Too many for me to remember.
✌️✌️✌️
I'm gonna have to look for that. I love Marla Gibbs, Carl Reiner, and Cloris Leachman! And Betty, of course...
Bea and Betty were holding handsss
Lol - It feels like Bea was grabbing Betty's hand 😂😂
She was maybe to comfort herself. You can see that all 4 women like each other!
Four beautiful, intelligent, formidable, funny Ladies who are so sadly missed but I hope they are all back together wisecracking and making each other laugh. Miss you Girls ❤
These ladies are beautiful!!!
"She plays Rooossee," said just like Dorothy would say it😊
Yup, I heard it in her voice!
Estelle Getty really played an older lady very well. She also seems very young spirit in real life similar to her character.
One of the sitcoms ever made 👏🏾
Bea checked the heck out of a seasoned Merv Griffin.
Four, beautiful class acts. Five, if you include Merv. May they all rest in peace.
This is so cool, even more interesting that Griffin came on the show in the final season.
"she plays rose..." shady 😂 its clear in interviews bea and betty didnt get along much, but its clear they didnt let that get in the way of the show, cuz they gave great performances to the end
He is as old as they are
Mervs a good interviewer. Always thought so. Asks questions but not too many great listener like Cavett if a bit less droll. Ladies and gentleman you have five incredibly talented people here and yes including wonderful Merv. Historic interview.
4 wonderful ladies
Bea Arthur was a bad ass woman !!! Not only was she a marine, she was a knock out in her younger years!! She was so misunderstood!!
I was exactly 9 months old when this aired, I'm going to be 40 in February. Why does time go so fast? lol
Sad they are all gone. The world was a better place with all of them around.
Notice they brought out Betty first
Ok and? I don't think it means anything.
Good catch! It is an open secret... Betty slept with the producer lol. 😊
My favorite sitcom of all time ❤
It was shocking for me to realize - that I was 12 when this show began and now I am the same age as Rue was here! And I still think she seems older than Me! ( 😂)…. Crazy!
"Not an American Indian, but a Pakistani Indian."
Got it.
It's fine. Many Indians (south Asia) believed that their ancestors were the natives in America.
Ladies and gentlemen..
ESTELLE GHETTY
Betty was anything but daffy..she was one smart , endearing, charming , funny lady. 👍
What a treat!
I recently read that Estelle was actually 14 months YOUNGER than Bea!! Besides being a brilliant show, what great makeup artists!!
I watch the shows all evening every day. During the original series, I was having babies and too busy. 😊 I'm now 69 and they're all new to me now!! ♥️
Yeah when Estelle was auditioning for the part she reportedly begged the makeup artist to do everything she could to make Estelle look 80. It worked. Can't imagine Sofia not being played by Estelle!
PS. Enjoy the "new" show. You're in for a treat. Some great episodes there!
Is hard to believe betty white and bea Arthur disliked one another as i keep hearing
Betty smile 🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️
These women are the epitome of feminism ❤❤
Hmm he was disrespectful as hell to b in my opinion. Like carefully asking the questions b doesn’t want to be asked.
I could see the way he was targeting her in the interview.
I like the way Bea vouched for Betty as well..
I'll bet you feel ofended too.
@@FartSquirel imma a fucking dude
betty and everyone else talking about generational differences like we do now makes me feel a lot more sane idk why
Rue McClanahan looked more like 63 than 52 in 1985.
i love them all but i fuckin hate the male interviewer such sexiest and age shaming questions like the this whole interview would have been worthy if he asked them more meaningful questions
Was this before or after Dorothy and Rose were on the Jeopardy episode of The Golden Girls?
This was before
