One of the best podcasts ive watched. So much great information in this. The juventus academy encourage keeping the ball as taking on 5 players but losing the ball doesn't help anyone. The bit about playing other sports is great aswell. I played squash for years and sure it helped massively with short sharp sprints and with fitness. Chess and snooker for understanding tactics aswell. Absolutely brilliant guys and im sure Jamie had the best coaching and advice from his dad aswell, gutted he didnt get the England job.
Great discussion. Learnt a lot from this. Speed / movement is very important to teach our children from a young age along with ball mastery. Empowering our kid to make good decisions and being a great role model as a parent.
Brilliant episode. Really agree with Jamie regarding a lack of passing focus in the early days at academies. My son is 8 and at an academy and his best attributes are probably his vision and passing ability. Trying to encourage him to hold onto the ball and show what he can do in a dribbling capacity can be quite difficult but is without doubt needed. I suppose the dribblers/ flair players will also generate more revenue down the line also.
Love how Jamie dealt with his former cheating wife Louise. She decided she wanted “to find herself” and “bang around”. Being a wife and mother was “slavery” to her. So Jamie went fine, walked away. Got a better looking woman 10 years younger than her, and now had a kid with her. Meanwhile, Louise is reduced to banging backing dancers. Her sons are embarrassed by her and no amount of plastic surgery is going to make her any younger. She was quoted as saying she regretted walking out on Jamie and becoming a cheating Ho. But now Jamie has moved on she can’t turn time back. You have to love it. Revenge is best served ice cold.
Agree with what Jamie said, too many players want to dribble as the first option and too many young children have no idea of the simplicity and effectiveness of a pass. Nothing wrong with having the ability to dribble but being able to pass effectively and efficiently should be a child's default position. Jamie said in today's game there is less dribbling and I agree but children through bad coaching and coaches are obsessed with producing Messi type players. He is an exception to the rule and norm.... Watch too many children dribble and then dribble some more but have no awareness nor understanding of how to play the game let alone know where and when to dribble. Some will beg to differ but this is only my opinion, I agree also that tik tok and all that other foolishness has had a bad effect on how children view the game✌️
Good insight, got a lot of time for JR, everyone only has good things to say about him, always has time for people.
