    What setting do you use for your preload, and have you found a shock adjustment tool you really like?

    thank you Ron for your response, I appreciate you, I like my torque numbers, but, was a little disappointed in my HP numbers, thniking about going to a 128 kit, I'm very intertested in knowing what you plan to do going forward, I would think that going to a 128 kit that there will need to be changes made to my bottom end, new clutch for sure, thanks again

      Yeah that 128 kit would be nice! There are lots of non-MoCo options too. So many choices! Let me know if you decide on something. Keep an eye on the channel and you’ll see what I end up doing. It’ll be in phases but I hope to tackle quite a few things :)

    Hi Ron
    So far my KODLIN installation without the jam nut is working fine , it dropped me down 1 1/2” minimum! ……taking the jam nut out of the equation , I could screw the KODLIN head all the way down , and I applied blue loctite , and believe me , it won’t go nowhere . I’m almost 5.8” and now I can ride my softail with my crocs …..literally!!…….super stable when I stop at traffic lights.
    And by the way, they made the 2022 softail standard easier to adjust the rear shock …directly with no need to unscrew any part……..at least something good 😊
    Thank you for your tutorials Ron !

      Hi my friend! Yeah I’ll be trying that Kodlin truck without the jam nut. Glad it’s working well. That’s also a great improvement on the 2022 making the adjustment easier to get to!

      And regarding that pre loading wrench, I went to the Harley dealer 2 weeks after buying my bike , and I asked one of the sellers how do I preload the shock , ….. he went to a big drawer and and gave me one for free, he had several there .
      “ ask , and you shall receive….” Right?

      Excellent! Yes indeed. And a simple one works just fine. I’ve got several different ones that I’ve accumulated over the years.

    Hi , like you I can’t leave things alone and have been thinking about hardtailing my streetbob, I found a photo of a hard tailed fxbb with fixed sissybar, king and queen diamond stitched seat and a flame job for good measure gotta say it looks bad ass. Look forward to seeing what you come up with. All the best and good luck.

      Hey Conway - thanks for the well wishes! I'm feeling good about my approach for the hardtail :) Can you share that photo you found? I'm 225lbs, keep my preload around a 3-4. Rides great. No way would I lower my softail. My FXFBS scraps pegs, exhaust, kickstand and primary without riding really agressive and its got the tall factory shock.

    Hi Ron another great video. I'm running the Kodin lowering kit on wife's bike. She loves it on the softest setting. Thanks for all your work and research. It's always very entertaining and very informative. I have an unrelated question: What do you think about putting a hole in the trans cover from the oil side to the middle section, allowing the crank case to vent through the transmission vent?

    • @RonsWorkshop
      @RonsWorkshop  Рік тому

      Hey Pete & Donna - thank you for the kind words! For the transmission top cover - there is the possibility of gunk from the crankcase “polluting” the gearbox, so keep that in mind. And that vent tube on the gearbox side is pretty small so it won’t vent a lot of pressure very quickly. Let me know what you decide to do and how it goes…

    hey Ron, you've been kind enough to respond back and answer a few questions for me in the past for me, it's much appreciated, would you be kind enough to give me your opinion on changing the stock compensator? I have a 2021 FLSB softail with a 30 / 30 cam producing 105 HP and 125 ft lbs of torque, not too much power, but, fun for now, my concern is the stock compensator and there seems to be two schools of thought, George Bryce at Star Racing now makes a billit compensator to replace the stock model which seem to be prone to breaking. He does not recommend going to a motor sprocket like the Dark Horse Man-o-War 34-T which alleviates the ramp / compensator all together, however, he states that you will then tear up the "next in-line" component, such tranny, etc, as the motersprocket has no "give" as it's a solid piece, should I just replace the ramp / compensator with a billit compensator or go to the Man-o-War motorsprocket. I'm running a stock clutch, should I go ahead and replace it and the clutch basket? any thoughts on manufactors that you like? Barnett, Rekluse, Evolution, etc? any help and guideance would be appreciated, thank you

      @RonsWorkshop  Рік тому

      Hey Michael - good to hear from you again, and you pose good questions. I'll start out with info that I got from Kevin Baxter in a conversation a while back. I'm not trying to quote him, so these are approximate ranges based on that convo. For the compensator, the stock unit should be good up to about 130-140 hp/tq. For the clutch, the stock unit should be good to about 120-130 hp/tq. I agree with George's sentiment that if you eliminate the compensator, something down the line will suffer. There are options for stronger compensators available, so if you keep pushing the power up you have options without completely eliminating it. I don't have a strong opinion on which clutch basket, but Barnett seems to be the one I keep looking at. With your current hp/tq you're probably still in the safe zone, but getting close. BUT it also depends on how hard we ride...dropping the clutch, burnouts, aggressive acceleration & shifting, etc. will present a different picture for component longevity. I'm definitely no expert, but that's my .02 ¢ worth. Relatively soon I'll be bumping up the numbers on mine, so I may be looking at the same upgrades myself :) Let me know what you end up with!

      Hey Dags! All is well here - life has been a bit busy and I was traveling a good bit…but a new video hits tomorrow as a matter of fact :) And I have some very cool projects coming up…I’m really looking forward to them and excited about the videos. Two more videos are in the works after tomorrow’s video and there are quite a few more in the hopper right behind those!!
      Thanks for checking in!

    Hi, I like your videos, do you think the venting is necessary on a 2022 fatboy, I got it about 6 months ago. Only got about 300 miles on it so far. Been watching everyone's videos. The only problem I'm having is rotors issues and so are a couple other guys. They took it to the dealer to check it out. It is a 2 piece rotor and the ribets are loose and they are clunking when you put on the brakes. They told them that they are supposed to be like that because it is a floating rotor and will not replace them. I Think it is b*******, I think they should be recalled before they hurt somebody.

    • @RonsWorkshop
      @RonsWorkshop  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Don - Thank you for the kind words! You can check for crankcase pressure by removing the dipstick, firing it up, and observing if you have air coming out of the dipstick tube. You can use a plastic bag or balloon…if it inflates you know you’ve got pressure. If you do have pressure it’s probably worth adding a crankcase vent. Let me know if that helps.
      That does sound strange about eh rotor issue. If it’s making noise it seems like that’s a problem.

      I just watched a video that the blockhead did, he took the 2 vent hoses from the carburetor put the T on and then put the 3 hose on and put the other end on crankcase vent fitting. They said it works good. The blow by is going back into the crankcase and that way you don't have to use a catch can. He it will not hurt anything doing it that. way

    • @RonsWorkshop
      @RonsWorkshop  2 роки тому

      Hey Don - yeah in his second video he clarifies that he cut a notch in the crankcase divider to let the pressure vent through that little rubber hose on the gearbox side. Without that, his solution would only add more pressure into the crankcase (not good).
