    Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong...if your spring is bottoming out, more preload will not do anything to prevent that. Preload is only for correcting sag - that's all it can do. It cannot make the spring stronger. Also, I believe the 3rd gen vstrom 650 only has rebound adjustment - this adjustment can only change the speed at which the rear suspension returns to sag after hitting a bump. If the rear pogos (bounces down and up several times) after hitting a bump, increase rebound till it just returns to sag after hitting that bump (doesn't continue bouncing up and down for that one bump). I believe that you're trying to say that the adjustment on your bike is for both rebound and compression damping - I don't believe that is correct. They are typically two different adjustment methods. "REAR SUSPENSION - Link type, rear shock with adjustable rebound damping and spring preload" copied from suzuki's current v-strom 650 specs. This bike doesn't have an adjustment for compression damping. I apologise if I have misunderstood your video.

    Hi doc, thank you so much for this video. I got this exact model last year and was wondering how this whole process was done. I just have some additional questions:
    1 - How do you know where the tape should be put on? Is it always that same location for this model? If so, can't you simply perform the measurement without the X and tape?
    2 - I still have all the factory suspension settings and it feels like the bike rides quite stiff when on roads with parallels. Is this normal, even if the damping force is with the correct amount of turns?
    Gracias y saludo de Portugal.

Even if you drive slowly and safely lets say, control will not be good especially on turns with bumps and I dont think your rear suspension will end up well after this trip. If you have the 650, its suspension is limited and there are after market solutions for this. Hope that offers more info.

    Boa tarde.
    Entretanto, quanto a minha mulher sobe na garupa, mesmo dando a carga total higt, ou seja, aparecendo os 5 aneizinhos na suspensão, a distância máxima que fica é de 470mm.
    Não ficou um sag totalmente ruim, mas me chamou a atenção, pois eu e minha esposa somos relativamente leves. Eu peso 70kg e ela 55kg…
    Desde já agradeço e muito obrigado por todos os vídeos!!!

    • @DrVstrom
      @DrVstrom  Рік тому +2

      For the 530 that you say was the same with the suspension loose and on side stand, some time it sticks so do not worry. Just make sure when you have it on the center stand to pull the wheel down so it fully extends and it unsticks. So ok from 530 you subtract whatever number is measure by a 3rd person when you and your wife are both on the bike without your feet touching the ground. Then that number you bring as close to 48 as possible by turning the adjuster accordingly. That means that after you turn the adjuster, you and your wife repeat and a 3rd person measures again and then you subtract the new number again. If the difference is closer to 48 your are adjusting to the correct direction until you reach 48.

    • @DrVstrom
      @DrVstrom  2 роки тому

      What do you mean there is no indicator? The method is the same for all motorcycles. What are you asking exactly? If you mean to find a setting for all, as long as you are not going on a long trip fully loaded with side luggage, its fine.

    • @DrVstrom
      @DrVstrom  2 роки тому +1

      Hello, I normally do not give such detailed info for non membership members but here you go. To adjust follow the same process exactly as my video. For measurement 1, its bike unloaded & measurement 2 is loaded with your passenger. You do M1-M2 and the result number you need to compare with 30% of your rear suspension travel, which I think for the 1050 is 30% of 160mm so 48mm. if your number (M1-M2) is >48 you turn slowly clockwise. if it is

      Hello, The engine is bulletproof so no problems there. However there are other potential issues if you intend to cruise at these revs for 2 hours straight that you might need to consider. Namely the risk of getting tickets for speeding, the excessive tire wear & fuel consumption. I will not lie, I ve done it myself even revving higher for such periods of time and no issue there. In fact the oil and engine gets proper temperature and you can then tell that the engine works better, the gears shift smoother, etc. However do consider the other factors as well. A last thing to remember is that if your tires get hot and you stop suddenly its also not good for tires but you need to gradually bring the temp down and then stop.
      Hope this helped & Ride safe.

    I have manual in English and my language and I can't find 30%from 160...only that come with fix suspension factory 2 level..so you can adjust from 0-5 level..your video is great ,maybe little to long,and I lose info from Frist to second measurement..

    • @DrVstrom
      @DrVstrom  2 роки тому +1

      Welcome to the world of dealers who want you to go and pay. The 30 % is commonly known in the motorcycle community. Just adjust in this way and you will see how good it will behave. The video has split labeled parts and you can jump from 1 to the next depending on what you are looking. What info do you miss between the 2 measurements? Its simple.
      Measure on center stand for measurement 1,
      Measure while you alone or you plus luggage or you plus 2nd passenger, depending on for what weight you want to adjust. That is measurement 2
      M1-M2 = result
      Is the result equal to 30%of 160?
      If it is great.
      If not you adjust to make result as close to 30%of 160 as possible.
      Watch the video more carefully.
      Hope it helped.

I figured out everything else because I've only had the motorcycle for two weeks... the motorcycle is 1 year old and they were taken out immediately front and rear springs and high tech purple coil put on I think....I don't know if it affects the rug...thanks for your time...👍

    Good day to you sir. Thank you for this. But unfortunately this entire video is super confusing. I am not a troll and I am not here to create trouble or to discourage you. I am just being honest that this video confused more than it clarified. Way too much theory. I request that you do another one just demonstrating the concept quickly. You started talking about preload and then that word completely disappeared.

    • @DrVstrom
      @DrVstrom  10 місяців тому +1

      Good day to you my friend. This is not a channel where in 5 min you watch & go. If I did this video in less time there would be many saying the opposite of what you expressed (ie that it was too brief and info is missing). To this day this video is one of my most engaging and successful ones in terms of views and time viewed. You simply skip the theory if you dont want it and jump to these parts for preload.
      6:58 1st Measurement Ext Sag
      7:08 Measurements-2 Point The Setup
      9:05 2nd Measurement Race Sag
      14:16 The Calculations
      15:20 Adjusting by Increasing Preload
      16:32 Repeat the Measurement & Adjust
      Then if you wanna play also with the damping force you continue to
      17:30 Damping Force Adjustment
      18:52 Damping Force Adjuster & Indications
      20:24 Set Damping Force Adjuster to Default
      Its that simple.
