  • Riding season 2021 has started! Curious on the new KTM 890 Adv R and what difference I could feel compared to my 790 Adv R, I got the opportunity to take Bike Trollhättans demo bike on a ride! There is definitely differences :)

    Nice to see you slowing down when passing the horses 👍
    I think that 890 engine sounds a bit meaner but not by much. Thank you for taking your time putting together this comparison. Looking forward to testing 890 myself!

      Yeah got to be careful with those girls and their horses, respect to each other and safety first! You may have got it wrong, when I listen to the drive by's the 790 is more raw, but that is probably because the 890 totally prohibited any slip without the tech pack installed. It feels like TC level 8-9 in street mode and offroad mode while the 790 has equal to TC 7 on these modes. I tried to give throttle on the gravel but it was impossible on the 890. Thanks buddy!

      Not to forget about the exhaust system. The KTM one sounds mechanical. The Akropovič does give it a better sound. That makes much more than between 790 vs. 890 I think.

    Posting my friends comment after riding my 890 today:
    Men JÖSSEN vilken skillnad på hoj! Alltså hans 790 och den nuvarande 890. Motorn känns dubbelt så harmonisk vid låga varv.
    Mycket mera lågvarvsdrag än tidigare, men framförallt mycket skönare motorgång! Nästan lite GS-känsla. Superharmonisk styrning också, man tänker - den gör.
    Men framändans försköning är nog ändå det mest fantastiska, och det gäller inte minst när man ser den i backspegeln då den försöker hänga med en pigg Diminutor! 😎 Nu lyser KTM:ens lyse behagligt varmvitt, originallampans blåaktiga och i ögonen skärande ljus är ett minne blott. 🤗

      Haha, den var bra! Ja det är definitivt skillnad på motorn, skulle vara kul att prove den igen när de installerat Tech Pack. Man vill ju sladda och känna på wheelievilligheten 👀💪.

    Nice... I really like the color scheme on the 890, but there is not enough reasons to upgrade at this time, but nice to see they have adresses some of the issues when the day for a upgrade finally comes. The 790 will have a couple of more miles before I consider changing. Great video, and I have to say, those earplugs looks great. I know there is alot of similar products on the market. But not sure how good they are. I'm perfectly fine with the laser cut ones that fit's my ear good enough. Can't wait to get back out camping myself.       It's definitely a refined version of this platform, but as you say, there is no need to get the 890 if few Km's on it, which I have . I have to evaluate these plugs more before I recommend them. They seem to reduce engine sound good, but to say something about wind noise I need to test them more. Next ride must be more of "into the wild" been longing for that now. Cheers Tjommi!

      If you haven't already, you may wanna consider the smaller 15t front sprocket and/or have a look at the Coober unit. Just had the opportunity to compare at my dealer a stock 790 S, a 790 R with 15t front sprocket and Coober unit, and a new stock 890 R. Didnt know Coober before but seemed to make the 790 feel more like the 890 low end.
      In the end decided for the 890R with 15t but without Coober (yet). Will see after break-in period but have to wait for it to arrive another month anyways ;-( . Cheers Jan

      Great choise! I'not really felt the need for a 15 sprocket yet, but are curious and might get one. Cheap and easy to swap back and forth if needed. Congrats and happy trails!

    Can't wait to get back on the trails this season. The spring is almost here and so is the desire to go. The 890 looks fine and I think it would be a superb bike if the price was a little more friendly. As always, nice video

      First ride for the season, not planned like this. But it couldn't be better. Yes I agree these bikes are pricey for what we use them for. But there are many hours of development and tweaking built in them. Look forward to follow your season start Dragos, stay safe!

    Let's go! This is what I've been waiting for. Yes! 😊👌 Your conclusion seems to confirm that the 20% increase in the 890's rotating mass does indeed allow for smoother low end response. I'm sorry to see they sold your 890R Rally.. 😏 Skol! 🍻

      Haha, glad they did. That beauty shouldn't sit there on the floor 💪. Definitely a difference in the low end engine character. Less KTM, more BMW 👀😂. The TC was also very restricting in both Street and Offroad mode, no sliding or wheelies on these modes and felt like TC 8-9 in rally mode on my 790R. Skål! 🍺

    Nice video Mattais! I bought my 790 in September and about a month later the 890 was announced. I have no regrets and while I understand that there are improvements in the 890 they are no where near enough to make me trade up.

      Hey, i remember that BOC! Nothing to regret, ride and have fun with the 790. When it's time for us to swap there will be something new. But this platform is really great. It was so fun to ride for the first time this season. Love the bike.

      @@Braapncamp but if you didnt have the 790 and was going to buy a new bike, should you buy a new or used 790 and save some money or buy a brand new 890?

      I think i would buy the 890R just because it's new. No new 790R available anymore over here. If it is a huge saving or a saving that makes the difference on possibilities to equip the adv, then the 790 is the better choise as well. It's very difficult to differentiate these bikes in the reality, the difference is so small or unsignificant in real world. There are no breaking news with the 890.

      @@Braapncamp i saw your review of 1290SAR. I think there will be a tough descision for me to choose either the 890ADR or the 1290SAR....
      I tested the 1290 last week, what a beast. But is it to big?....

      Only You can tell. I liked the 1290SAR but when i jumped on my 790R i that the 790/890R is the unicorn for me. If I where touring on longer trips now and then, let's say to the Alps (we did that alot before I made videos on YT), i think the 1290 is a better choise or if you sometimes ride with buddies on rasebikes 😂. The 790 is good for both scrambling around at the close trails and capable of long adv rides. It pends on how you plan to ride. If you do most scrambling the 1290 is overkill and will feel as too much bike.

    890 looks nice, but not enough to entice me to sell my 790R, great review! Where's the snow? We still have a lot here in the northeast USA Thanks once again.

      I'm with You, even if it's refined I still like the revvy character of the 790R and a swap makes no sense. But the low end pull was also nice and definitely an noticeable improvement. CB say no to slow and in that perspective the is no difference between this bike 😂. We have had about 10°C the last week so the snow is all gone at my latitude, even further north.

      Tackar, ja nu vill vi ha igång säsongen. Öronpropparna är från Phonak, de är stora på hörapparater. Jag håller på att testa öronpropparna, vi får se vad jag gillar dem när jag testat dem mer. Positivt är att man kan höra tal obehindrat med dem i. Motorljud är också positivt, återstå att se hur bra de är mot vindbrus.

    Hi Mattias, thank you for that nice comparison. That 890 RALLY looks also very nice 🤩 - learned in the meanwhile not to stall the 790 by using little higher revs. Love my 790 still. Wondering what KTM xxx AdvR RALLY will come next???

      Hello Uli, Thanks. Seen that you have started the season with Your 790 Rally already. Yeah the trick is to rev it more, but the difference is very noticeable. I wills tick to my 790R as well.

    After riding the CABDR, Rally model is recommended. You can definitely find the need for the Rally model at more intense routes such as CABDR.

    it's funny i only looked at your channel yesterday to see if you had test rode the 890 r as i have been wondering if i should upgrade my 3 month old 790 r , but i think id need to put £4000 on top of my bike to trade so sense tells me id be stupid and your review just confirms that , i think i will order the Rottweiler airbox and be done for now . thanks for the great review mattias and if you get time have a look on my channel for some 790 video , although I'm not brave enough to talk on mine 😂😂 . all the best chris

      Thanks for you conment! I agree Chris, no need to change if not planned. The 890 was great but to swap a low milage 790 does not make sense. But I would not hesitate if it was time to change. The refined 890 is still king in it's category. 💪👌 Will definatelt take a look at your channel Chris. Thats why we are here, to see whats up! ☝️😁

      Thanks Laurie, this a Volvo Amazon -70. My mother had it ❤️. If I would do a video of that it should be a series of renovation. Need some love with welding and minor touch up. I start it up now and then though.

    Thank you for posting this video. What a nice place to ride too. I have the 790R (here in Germany) and absolutely love it. Unfortunately I am going to have to sell it before going back to the States (I cannot import it back home). So having a general idea of the 890R is important because I am just going to buy the same bike all over again.

      Kör bara! Det är toppen att kombinera med uteliv. Glömmer aldrig min tur till Preikestolen som ändå ligger nära oss. Packade en hammock, sovsäck och ett litet kök och drog. en långweekend som var bättre än många. Har en gammal video på det i tre delar som jag gjorde för nåt år sedan. Men det är bättre skogskörning här hemma.

    Love your videos Mattias. I started watching you because you had the same Enduro 690R before. I will likely move up to the 890 soon.
    What is your opinion on the Rally version? I know they sold out so I could not get one if I wanted now, but if I could, do you think the added cost is worth it for the upgrades you get?
    Tied to this last question...what upgrades do you think you would put into the 890R or is it largely ready to go as is? I know with the 690R there were alot of upgrades to make and some of them necessary (e.g. the sub frame bolts replaced)

      Hi Adrian, I know You've been in for awhile! The 890 Rally was a tad to high for me and I'm 6'. No problem for riding with speed but when gnarly and tight and to work it around on trails I know I would hate the height. The price is ok for what you get, that's my opinion compared to the 790/890R. KTM should have delivered it with even narrower rims though.
      If you go with the 890R which I can recommend, be sure to get the Tech Pack (bike I literally useless without it...) and Rally Pegs (maybe lowered pegs). Thats it in my opinion, the rest is pimping. Think of new tires immediately as well. The Karoo 3's are only good for touring or ok at hard packed surfaces.

    Thanks again Mattias for another good video (I love that motorbike shop so many bikes to look at) An 890r without ride modes and traction control would be great.... Just raw power ;-)....thats one reason why the Tenere is so popular and will probably be my next bike ---also the Tenere comes in about $8,000 Australian dollars cheaper

      Thats a good point of view of it! I was very sceptic to TC and all that stuff when buying the 790R, that also was the first bike that I had tested with all this gizmos. But I adopted in a second and would definitely miss the quick shifter and rally mode if not having that anymore. I feel that immediately when testing other bikes, KTM has set a new standard with how these fiunctions should work, if having them. If these functions are flimsy, you very quickly see them as irritating and limiting. Something I would like though is a quicker way to turn it off, as quick as rally mode is to operate on the fly.

      Haha thanks, for some reason i was more gently with this 890R than i use to be with bikes at testrides. It was first ride this year and the bike was brand new. Sorry for that. I should have Steve McQueen'ed it! 😂😂💪

      Thanks! Hmm that was a difficult one, swing that magic staaf and say abra kadabra, a 790/890 with the weight of 130Kg's 😂. I'm actually very happy with my set up as it is. The bike and accessories performs outstanding. What I want is more time and founds for epic adventures. Happy trails Hank!

    Great to see you riding again, specially in that nice Mosko kit. But I don't get the 890. Is it there to replace 790? Or is it there as a big brother model? They seem to be so close. And what has the world come to when you need to buy a software upgrade to make wheelies!? :D See you on the trails.

      It was a nice first ride of the season Robert 💪. The 890 replaces the 790 due to emission regulations EU5 for bikes. I was ofc curious of the changes announced to the engine. Unfortunately i'm sure that we will se more of theses restrictions on all street leagal bikes. And if so, it's actually good with softwares to get around it 😂. Great bike none the less, but pricey. Time for us meet up half way (10 minutes ride 😂) for a distanced small coffee Robert with NS team. ☝️😁☕ or 🍺 👀.

    I think i'll hang on for the significantly improved, much lighter & more powerful 940 Adv R model when it gets released, probably around August/September time.

    Interesting test Mattias. 148,000 K equates to $22500 AUD so that seems reasonable as new 790R’s here are going for $20,500 now. It would seem that if a rider wanted a big twin, it would be worth buying the 890 rather than the 790 whereas you remain happy with your bike. The 790 should have come with traction control as standard. Is that an old Volvo in your garage? We too are coming into the best riding weather now, out of the summer heat so time to start planning here. The Mosko jacket looks good, how about a quick review along with the ear plugs.

      Yes a new buyer could actually chose the one they get their hands on. The 790 should keep it's good value and that makes more sense then to buy a 890. The engine is refined in a way many have asked for. But the 790 feels somewhat more KTM'y with the characteristic low mass of rotatives. The 890 is more GS'y 😁. A lot better in low speed and low end pull. More forgiving when in too high gear. To me a swap does not make sense for now. Yes it's a -70 Amazon, my mother had it ❤️. Needs some welding, other than that it is in original condition. I will do a review of the Basilisk jacket when I have riding in rain hand warmer weather. So far I'm impressed! Ear plugs need some more testing as well. What are the advriding plans? long weekends or more? Happy trails DKW!

      @@Braapncamp I’m currently building a holder for a Rotopax fuel container on my EXC500 and then improve the lights, which are hopeless. Here’s how bad they are. You have heard of black holes in space, which do not allow any matter including light to escape. The standard headlight is a black hole, which actually removes light from in front of the rider. A couple of LED lights will replace the standard light. And then some 2 day rides where I hope to make a feature of my bike’s mods and my friends 500, with both bikes extensively modified to carry luggage.

      Sounds like a great adv bike! I would like one too, but have to keep the numbers down to one bike. Brown light is not fun! Do you have the larger tank plus rotopax to get needed capacity?

      @@Braapncamp yes I have the 15 L Acerbis tank plus I will have an extra 4L in the Rotopax. You have to be careful when the fuel gets low, once past 300km you don’t want the fuel pump sucking air as the fuel lubricates and cools the pump. My friends 500 has a 20 L tank so he can breathe more easily. No such problems with the 790!

      Thats a nice range for advrides you have there. No, the 790 does well with it's range. Remarkable fuelefficient both having fun and when riding it gently to save fuel and tyres.

      Nej, 890 är definitivt en finjustering av 790'n. Ta något varv till på skotern så länge det varar 😁, men jag förstår att det är i väntans tider. Har man slagit tilll då vill man ut. Själv så har jag längtat efter att ta mig ut på kortare äventyr med övernattning.

      Thanks! Unfortunately i did not check that. I only toggled between offroad mode and street mode. But i wonder if you must have the tech pack for this feature as well, could imagine that since it seems very restricted without the TP.

    Nice review Mattias! I change from 790 to the 890 and there is a huge difference in engine characteristic. Better or not is dependent what you expect, what i missad in the with the 790 was the bottom torque under 5K. And is much better but if you need it on gravelroads is discusable.

    The engine does sound like an upgrade for most people but I am used to single cylinder engines so I'm not really bothered by the 790. Also the 890 is a little heavier... Only reason for me to upgrade would be to get another 2 years of warranty since my 790 had A LOT of issues in the past 20 months :(

      For sure I miss the thumper some times, but in the over all use I'm happy with the swap. Issues with a new bike is never fun and not what should be expected. Have the dealer stand up for and fixed the issues? I've been lucky so far. Will be interesting to follow how the 890 holds up.

      @@Braapncamp Sure the twin is so much more versatile! Up to now my dealer fixed everything under warranty. I still had to bring the bike to the dealer every time which is not easy during working hours and takes me one hour one way... rear shock, 3x display, brake line, key error, heated grip, faulty brake line switch, fuel gauge
      Only thing that really scares me and that they are unable to fix is my front brake: the lever gets stuck (is very stiff) and I have to pull hard to 'unjam' it. Barely made the corner in two situations. Luckily it only happens rarely, maybe once every 1000 km. I am not willing to pay 800€ bills every 3 months moving forward. I am at 20.000km
      I hope your luck keeps on giving and that your bike won't give you any bad surprises!

      Wow, that front brake lever stuck fault should never be accepted, safety hazard definately. Why can't tvey fix things like that, should never ever happen. I can imagine that this type of failure affect the trust in riding the beast. Hopa all this stuff are adressed on the 890. Time will see and we will take part if it at advrider or the fb sites. Meanwhile, i eager to get out for advrides 😁💪.

      It is a great bike and the 890 is probably a tad better here and there. No doubt i love my bike (790R), on a longer advride right now and the bine just delivers.

    Appreciate the heads up on the new 890 Adv. R. I was thinking the same thing you observed - namely that the heavier fly wheel would result in a less "revvy" motor which is a feature I actually like about the 790 as it let's you loft the front wheel when needed, a feature nigh impossible with my WR 250R. I hear a lot of comments that the 790 Adv R lacks low end grunt and is easy to stall which I've rarely found to be the case. Perhaps I ride easier routes? Or maybe it's because my last dual sport was a 250 but I think low end grunt on the 790 is more than adequate. I usually ride in rally mode but with the softer throttle response as the other can get quite jerky. One thing I was hoping you'd make an observation on was the added weight which I thought was 30 or so pounds more than the 790 Adv R but since have learned it may only be 15 lbs. In any case I was wondering if there is any difference in the handling or balance due to the added weight? Maybe you didn't have the bike long enough or go down any trails technical enough to tell?

      Thanks Chris! The low end grunt is definately good enough on the 790. The stall situations ia all about when we loose momentum or turn around at tight places. Regarding weight it's said that the 7Kg's spec'ed by KTM is all about regulations on how to spec weight. The new rule requires oil and coolant etc. to be included. So it's said that 890 actually have the same weight. Rear frame is lighter. I could not feel that it was heavier at all. Let's see when someone put it on scales. That was the first thing i did on my 790. I was curios though if the rotating mass could have effect on steering handling, positive on road and negative off road, bjtvit was to short time to make notation on that.

    Har nyligen köpt en 890 Adv R och kan inte riktigt förstå din review när du säger att det inte går att wheela/slippa med den utan tech pack!
    Jag köpte utan tech pack (dock med qs och cc) men jag har inga problem med att slajda runt och köra wheelies med min! Varken före eller efter 100mila servicen! Tycker den beter sig riktigt bra på grus/sand. :)

      Intressant, jag körde ju min samma sträcka back to nack. Dock stängde jag inte av MTC i menyn utan lät den stå kvar på street mode utan några andra ändringar. Körde min egen i samma mode eller sparade den i rally mode men med TC7. Jag hade ju inte en helt rättvis jämförelse. Min upplevelse var att 890 var mer otillåtande än min i streetsättningen. Dock har ju 890 såklart mer pulver under samma förutsättning i, man kände en bättre botten vilket är härligt att ha. Jag är helt säker på att den wheelar med lätthet om man tillåter den i offroad mode eller avstängd MTC. (Även i Rallymode är ju antiwheelie avstängd.) Önskar många grymma turer med maskinen!

      @@Braapncamp Ja det kanske kommer mer i framtiden att jag vill ha en mer kontrollerad rally-slip, så får installera den mjukvaran då isåfall men som det fungerar nu så är den väldigt villig till allt jag slänger på den! Sålänge den är i offroad-mode när jag kör i skogen så är den väldigt rolig :) Nu ska jag bara hitta en massa ställen att köra/utforska på.. har du några tips på hur man hittar sådana ställen? (Bor i västernorrland)

      My dealer have the T7 as well and I did a test ride video on that when it was released, I liked it a lot and could test it a tad more than the 890. The 850GS and AT has never come to my mind, but there are guys that have asked for that and this has trigged me to actually test these as well. When I was at the Gothenburg MC Show last time and the new AT was displayed I was surprised how agile it felt static at least. Did not get the same feeling the 850GS that felt as it had high CG. Since I have the opportunity I will do that. Ofc I'm colored by my choice, but pro's and con's could be said for all bikes. Cheers!

    You said the 890 can't wheelie in the spec you tested. However, I've heard KTM prevent wheelies with the 890 until after the first service. Your thoughts?

      Could be so! But the taco did not flash as the 790 did before first service. On the one i tested the tech pack was not installed. What I could feel was that the street mode did not allow it to wheelie and a very high TC level so it did not power slide as my di in TC 7 (equals to street mode on 790). It did not want to wheelie in offroas mode either what i remember. I think tech pack is needed to get the bike to work as suposed.

      Hi, here is a link to the earplugs. I still use them. Love the function and as well the metalcylinder which yiu keep them in. I have fasteners the cylinder in a loop in my paket, always ready! Best thing is that thet let "normal" sound go thru so yiu can still speak and listen to oeople.

      Thanks! I compare the Phonak's to the common yellow foam earplugs. The Phonak's reduce noice or all audio by 40-50% in compariso. But are much more comfortable in the ears, so comfortable so i often forget to take them out. This probably also due to that surrounding sounds that you want to hear still is very audible. I have attached he nice container in a loop inside a leg pocket. That makes me allways find the as well.

    I concur with Mattias. The 890 motor is much better at low rpm. My 890 is more powerful throughout the entire power band and the transmission and suspension is more refined and polished. My 890 is just a better bike than my 790 was.

      The front and rear are both more compliant on small sharpe edged bumps, like frozen ground offroad and broken pavement on the road. The snow in northwest Indiana is just now melting so I'll be able to test the bike more thoroughly soon. My pillion rider reports that the 890 is as comfortable as my Tiger 800xc (even better now with the Seat Concepts on the 2 piece s version seat) and much more secure and comfortable than my 690 enduro r. When I refer to offroad riding I mean dirt biking. My limited offroad experience with the 890 seems to indicate that the main restriction will be not being able to easily wheelie over obstructions. The bike will wheelie of course but the lack sufficient traction offroad because of the usual tires on this kind of bike make it difficult to wheelie without picking up too much speed. I will probably try a fatty front tire to help get it over logs and ledges.

      Thanks, to snap wheelie big bikes isn't easy. Lower tyre pressure at rear does huge difference though for better grip. Not sure how narrower rims would effect the rear tyre grip. Could be positive but definately possitive on cornering grip offroad.

      Tha Karoo 3 is only good for hard surface and somewhat sand. It is totally worthless on whet surfaces like grass, mud etc. I quickly changed mine ro Motoz Rallz and now i habe Motoz Desert both these tyres are alot better. Rallz is a great allrounder.

      I think its due to the increased rotating mass. At least if the grunt is listened to if bike stands still and ofc the slightly increased cylinder vomume. The exhaust should be the same.

      20000Km's so not too many as i would have liked to 😂. Yes I habe also seen some issues that looks worrying. I have no sign of it on mine yet. Clutch is perfekt, but I do not use it as an enduro, not as an advrider. Seen some cylinder head issues as well and I will see how mine looks at 30000Kms.

    Who put a 15 tooth sprocket in the front on his 790 R? I guess that might solve the stalling difference and make it the better option than changing to an 890 R. Any experience?

      Only heard good on that, but i have not felt need for it on the 790. On the 690 it was more noticeable that it was needed to gear it lower, but the 690 had a short 6 unfortunately.

      My bike have 10K Km's so it has run in the muffler and somewhatvthe engine. If you listen at yhe parts where I pass by my sounds more mean, butvthat is due to that the 890 was restricted (TC was restrictivr) due to that the tech pack was not installed. The 790 feels revvier due to less rotating mass. The 890 hade very good bottom and perfect transition from idle to rev, better that the 850GS that is more like the 790. More eager to stall.

    My local ktm dealer has a 2020 790R for sale for around $13,000 out the door. It has cone valve $7000 suspension upgrade with only 1700 miles. Is it worth buying over the new 890R?

      Thats a tough question. Better suspension and riding experience over an updated engine. How is the warranties? The 890 has some minor noticeable better grunt in the bottom. Better take off from idle with more "flywheel mass". The 790 feels funnier ti throttle, more response. So warranties and some technical upgrades compared to a probably better ride. Has the 790 also narrower rims than stock?

      @@Braapncamp It has stock rims. It is out of warranty. I don't know what weight rider the suspension was set up for. I think it was a stock replacement.

      @@leep814 The stock suspension is the best out there on stock adventurebikes. It works "better than needed" for normal advriding. I would go for the 890 with warranty and the updates.

      😂 no definitely not 🙌. I do not remember what the Tech Pack costed 600-1000€, best to check with local dealer. I assume tvat thos part should be negotiated. The bike can not leave the floor without the TP in my opinion. Are You into a purchase? Happy Trails!

      De är helt ok. De reducerar buller med ungefär hälften av vad sånna vanliga gula skumproppar gör. Däremot så är de så sköna så man glömmer dem kvar i öronen. Man hör ju omgivningen på ett annat sätt än med vanliga proppar.

    Har hittat en 790R som jag funderar på att byta upp mig till. Behöver isåfall byta däck på den då dom är slut. Vad skulle du rekommendera? Kommer köra en hel del asfalt då jag kommer åka hojen till olika event i landet. Har funderat på Michelin Anakee Wild

      Wild får bra omdömen, jag har dock inte testat dem på någon hoj. Jag kör med Motoz Rallz och kör troligtvis med ett set till sådana. Hellre Wild än Karoo 3!

      Mattias Eriksson Braap&Camp Ye I hear ya mate but when you see guys rebuilding engines 3 & 4 times almost crying on the videos , along with so many pics on google as well as UA-cam of the hard-metal wearing off the rollers of the roller rockers on 690’s & stuffing the cam journals and then dropping into the bearings on the bottom end , you think ‘nah mate’. While they look great and are fast & light the reputation they have is well deserved .. while every manufacturer documents problems there is nothing like these disastrous videos out there , just dial it in ‘KTM reliability problems’ and have a box of tissues handy.

      Yes, the top end was the only thing i was worried about. Carefully listen to it and changed oil often. Hope the 790 top end does not get that reputation.

    Got a message before posting. Could not understand it although the Norman in the past murdered and raped a lot of woman up in the North of the Netherlands. So we got a very strange language in the most upper province in the Netherlands called Friesland.🤭
    From my understanding and history lessons this is why Friesland and Norway have a lot in common. And that is although the rest of the Netherlands was occupied by the Spanish we kicked the hell out of them. Thanks for the barbaric genes. Still enjoying chopping wood with an axe. 🤭
    But that is enough with the history lessons.
    - Is that sound original or was someing done to the exhaust ?
    I want to trade my 1190 R Adventure in. And buy something less heavy. Been riding every summer in Norway and Sweden or just one of those. I love it going offroad in them. Pure heaven. But my older getting bones are getting much easier broken then not so long ago. And the heavy bike with all the luggage is wearing me down quite quicly i must say. When going offroad in Norway and Sweden most of the time i am alone. Cause my buddies are completely different riders. And also sometimes i want to worship Thor and i prefer that noone will see me doing that. Also once a year i want to be alone for atleast one week or a little bit longer. Talking in myself surprices me a lot. So impressed by the most intelligent answers i am getting back.
    Been looking at different bikes. Every 5 or 6 years this is giving me so much pleasure. I think that orientating yourself in your next bike is almost as much fun as owning it in the first couple of weeks. The Ten 700 also past my mind several times. Even the new one with the two sided tanks. But i am so afraid that in the end this will bring me almost nothing cause it seems to be quite topheavy and the that it will wear me out as quicly as the 1190R does. Picking it up is a hell of a job. Expeccially 3 times in one kilometer.
    Also looked at a CRF 300 Rally. Came to the conclusion that if it was only these two options i had that i would pick the CRF 300 Rally.
    Although i can do a 7000 till 10000 km'ters on longer trips keeping the T7 upstraight when away from the tarmac seems almost as exhausting as my current bike. Both bikes are definitly good companions with long service intervals. The engines both can be trusted to get you where you want. Before that i also was looking a little from aside to the 790 R and the 890 R. With a lean eye so to say.
    One of my upcoming plans is a trip through Turkey. Exploring the backcountry. Even maybe more then 3000 km'ters away from the tarmac. I do not need much luggage. The basic things that you need and that is it. But a hammock system and stuff going along with that takes up his space on its own. Never was in the Hotel thingie. A bed full with bacteria and under a microscope growing stuff is not my my thing. And sleeping under the stars does give me also a lot of pleasure. A decent hammock can give the comfort of your own bed, or even more. Without the nagging and the need to put painkillers next to a glass of water at the definitly not your own side of the bed. 😇
    But talking about endurance. This is what is keeping me a little away from the 890. Going to Turkey and maybe Armenia/Iran needs a bike that does not quit.
    - how are you experiencing this ? Do you still ride ? 😂
    Sorry, what i was pointing at off course is the reliability of the 790/890. Did read about this off course and this was not his
    strongest point.
    But the handling defenitly is nice. On the road and expeccially offroad. And it has power. Although i am sure that i will miss the power from the 1190 R.
    - Could you please give some more feedback about those things and your thoughts about that it will become a mans traveling
    partner. Also your input about the maintanance is very welcome. I can imagine myself that the costs for that would be much higher
    then with a not dual sided tank to begin with.

I have no first hand experience at all from these countries except having drinks and some scuba diving in Turkey. Don't You think that Your 1190R could hammer like Thor some 30000Km's more?
