Can we do a follow up? So many of us don’t know what to do since Florence.

Would it be cheaper the demolish the house and build a new one in its place that is designed from the outset to be on stilts?

As far as I can tell, the only reason this was possible was because this is a pre-fab that can be moved as one pieces. Most houses would doubtfully be able to be raised.

Most homes can be raised. How it is constructed will make a difference on how it is raised.

After the first flood, rebuild. After the second flood... you'd think they would advise people not to build their homes where it floods...

It’s the price you pay to enjoy the water view . It’s not for everyone, I live 150 ft from the ocean and trust me I pay a hefty price tag for flood insurance every year ! Sucks when my house is paid off I will have invested $130,000 into flood insurance. FIMA makes plenty of money off of us it’s about time they give back!

If no one lived where there was risk of flood, most of the south wouldnt be occupied. Thats a whole lot of people that would need somewhere new to live
