This is a waterfront cottage that had been in the family. They wanted to rebuild in the same spot where they had inherited property and memories. Sometimes it is a choice people can and do make, in which case it's important to do what you can to reduce damage and protect the home.

​@@TheconsciousbuilderIf you are going to build in a flood plain, it is smart to build in such a way as to minimize possible future damage. Your are gambling that it won't happen, but in reality it will it at some point in time. Just when is the big question.
Personally I would never build or live in a flood plain, or even remotely close to one.
I have seen the damage in my area & on TV, not for me!
