    Silencers used to be used for taming sound and flash. We have officially come full circle and now brands want to sell silencers that don't tame sound or flash.

      It is interesting to watch the balance between signature suppression and flow rate play out across different systems and I find it incredibly interesting to see how each technology tackles the problem.

    Im curious if this fireball/High flash is possibly ammo related? I get the testing evidence for an increased likelihood of this happening just by design. Thats a bummer in general.
    But I have one of these and have never seen a fireball or even what i would say an increased flash to an RC2. (I shoot alot and have fast strings of fire often.) I always use "better" ammo though. mainly 77gr black hills and it's a joy to shoot with so little flash it's not a discernible increase in flash (day or night) to a RC2 (for me.) I have never set a camera up to record, this is just my eyes seeing what they see.
    I am using 3 and 4 prong flash hiders.
    I get that a suppressor that requires muzzle device Y with ammo X is a bummer. But if you care about flash and have one of these (Learned about fireball afterwards) It's nice to know its still capable as shooting the RC3 vs RC2 is a big improvement gas in face / felt recoil wise.
    If we are doing an apples to apples testing in comparison to other flow device, to my knowledge, most only have one muzzle device choice wise. So having 2 good options (3/4 OT FH) is still better with an understanding that other specific muzzle devices (CT/COMP) have an increased likelihood to flash but can still be used if wanted/needed.

      Great question! All flash is ammunition related. The key here is that the same ammunition is being used to test multiple silencers, and the comparisons are being drawing from that (eliminating ammunition as a variable - it is held constant).
      So yes, it could be that with your ammunition type, all silencer are suppressing flash "better," but that wouldn't negate the difference in one silencer from another with another ammo type.
      Yes sir, most folks have only one device - and hopefully this type of research can help folks understand potential differences! Thanks for the comment - you bring up great points!

    I think the CT warcomp works so much better than the 3 prong it’s my favorite muzzle device!👍🏼🤯🔫

    when I shoot the RC3 without ear pro I have a slight ringing in the ears. so I use ear pro. however no gas to face and seems to be less recoil. never shot the RC2 so should I have bought the RC2? or maybe another can? I really wasn't thinking it was going to be quiet since its on an AR... I have a 300 BLK for that with which I shoot subs. no ear pro needed.

      The shooting experience with the RC3 is most likely better than with the RC2, for many people - and you are experiencing this. For prolonged shooting, the Suppression Rating at the shooter's ear with various 5.56 AR platforms is too low to prevent serious damage, so you are on track and doing just fine if it is working for you, I would say!

    Do you think a JP Silent Captured Spring would make the gun perceivably quieter? Not sure if this is a good idea or not. They are quite expensive and add some complexity.

    • @TheJaySituation
      @TheJaySituation  3 місяці тому

      With this silencer, probably not, due to its already low backpressure, but, it would be neat experiment!

      @@TheJaySituationI was thinking more generally for any suppressor on any ar-15, since with a conventional spring there is some spring noise in the buffer tube close to the ear.

    Tunning- buff spring and weights or adjustable gas block? If gas block is the choice what one is recommended? Rifflespeed - SA preferred ect

    • @TheJaySituation
      @TheJaySituation  3 місяці тому

      For AR-15 tuning for suppressed use, an adjustable gas block is very smart. Typically, a buffer that is least as heavy as an H2 is recommended, with an H3 being very typical. The adjustable gas block (or a properly tuned fixed port size) is very important and there are a variety of models - pick one that you like and that has the functionality that you need/want.

      @@TheJaySituation I run the A5 buffer kit ups on my 556 and 300 blk with an SA adjustable gas block. The Sierra 5 I have tuned in good will waiting to get my jolene out of jail. Trusts take forever still to get approved.
      Riffle speed gas blocks look interesting but never tried one yet.

    Pew Science should design a suppressor!!!

      That would be a conflict of interest.
      One of the reasons our laboratory is the most trusted evaluator of silencers, in the world, is because we do not make, sell, design, or distribute silencers.
      Thanks for checking out the research!

      @@sethperry1323 His information is readily available though! If he does it, conflict of interest. If a Suppressor company said hey, check this dudes data out and used it to develop something awesome. That would be pretty cool.. wink, wink suppressor companies.
      Curious if Jay would accept a pre production product and did testing with advice for improvement. Still conflict of interest?

      A lot of great discussion in this episode.
      Even after 15 separate, excellent tests of SF passive blast attenuators on various hosts, there is still a small hole in the series...
