I’ve had one for a while now and it’s worked flawlessly. I think it’s a good little toy grade GPS/photo drone for no calibration, quick pick up easy flying and close exploration. I like the way it looks, the rechargeable controller and ease of taking on the go too. Anyway good review based on your experience with it.
This video was so insightful for me as i was gonna by one of these. After seeing the many glitches i decided to buy the hs 510 which is superior in comparison to this 165 . So thanks for helping me dodged a bullet. It cost with 2 extra battery, 4 in all over hour flight £230.

Hi, Thank you so much for your honest review. Been watching your channel for quite a while now, but this is the first time I´m commenting. I have the exact same problems with my HS165 like you had in your review. Plus mine didn´t come with a case nor had an extra battery! Still payed 149 euros for it on Amazon. Flown many HolyStone products in the past and most of them have been ( expensive ) disappointments. Found only two worth the money; the HS700 Ophelia and the newer HS720 Well packaged yes, but that´s about it. Personally speaking; I find HolyStone drones overrated and over expensive, and this one most definately is overpriced. Snaptain for instance delivers better drones and they have better video quality at an reasonable price. Avoid the HS165 and invest your money on something else. Lastely, I really enjoy the table reviews and the unboxings so I´ll be sticking to the end. :) Best wishes from a viewer from Finland!
Thanks so much for commenting! You made my day!! This is my first Holy Stone drone and I was disappointed but I've heard so much good about them. As you know I review many Snaptain drones and find them to be hit and miss as well which is expected with these toy brushed drones.
Compass calibration is important for the flight controller to save the proper compass offsets so the compass can correctly locate magnetIc north. If you don't do it then the drone will fly in circles and could fly away.
@@sebastianb.1729 please watch both on my reviews on the drones to get an idea nectar l because I've reviewed hundreds of drones so I can't begin to remember info such as flight times.
Just received one of these today. I think it's possible that they've updated their firmware as my first flights were trouble-free. Decent wind and found that it did _reasonably_ well. Goal is to hopefully use it for follow-me video on calm days on wider hiking paths. Add some image stabilization in post processing and I'm hopeful that it'll do me well until I've got the chops to not bury a Mavic Mini in the trees. #FirstDroneN00b
They may have updated it but often times these cheaper drones are unpredictable. One flight may be perfect and the next can be a nightmare. Hopefully you'll have no problems though.

Pity it doesn't perform well for you Ryan, that price is way too high AUD $292.98 for a brushed GPS toy grade quadcopter considering you can get a brushless one these days with a decent camera and even a gimbal in some cases
I have two of these. Both started dropping to the ground after about 20 hrs flight time. They will wander off, stop responding. gain elevation and generally drive me crazy. Only fly where you can get to it easily and see it easily. Not trust worthy. The video works some times and some times not. When it is working a joy. Just has some problems every outing. Very disappointing and frustrating.
@@RDsRCReviews Thanks for getting back with me. First good answer. Makes sense though. Motors start pulling differently then flying gets erratic. Solution is a better drone. I am slowly working my way up the price and knowledge ladder. Love the drones though. Thanks again.

What's the plug on the bottom of the controller for?
To charge it I think.

Great review btw
Compass calibration is important for the flight controller to save the proper compass offsets so the compass can correctly locate magnetIc north. If you don't do it then the drone will fly in circles and could fly away.
Which Drone is better? The HS165 or the SP650??
They are pretty similar to be honest but I would go with the Holy Stone.
And which one has a longer flytime? It’s for my 10 year old daughter.
