A hair dresser recommended using a cheap denture brush to clean brushes and combs. It really works wonders especially on those brushes with the plastic bristles with round tips. In addition, spray the Dawn powerwash directly on the bristles and let it soak in for a few minutes before putting them in warm water. It really helps to breakdown all the oil and product buildup at the base of the bristles.

I’ve been a stylist for well over 30 years. On those combs, after soaking, you can just take a towel and hold the comb in one hand and take the towel and wipe from the base of the teeth out to the tips. Concentrate on holding it firmly while pulling out. Then go through to get anything left over.

If your drains are mostly clogged with hair, our cleaning lady uses Clorox drain sticks... 2 pack for $4. They are long enough to get to the P-trap in the sink or shower and no removal of drain plugs. How did I not know about these? I have crawled under the sink to remove the P-trap on every sink I've owned.

Did you not know that most oven doors can be removed from the hinges so you can reach the back of the oven to clean??? Open the door to the first "stop" in the hinges, somewhat of a venting position, where it is only open an inch or so and pull straight up on the door, using both hands on the sides of the door. It should slide off the hinges easily...then you can clean the door separately and simply slide it back on the hinges when done.

Drains are black because mold and mildew grow in dank places. Sludge is also composed of fats in soaps and the lotions on our hands when we wash. The girls bathroom had more gunk because the other component is hair. Girls with long(er) hair will have more gunk.

I have long hair and, since I brush and style my hair over the sink, for YEARS I was having to do what she's doing in this video at least every other month! It's a gross job and a bit of a pain to do. When my drain would slow down and there was even a hint of odor coming from the drain, that was my cue it was time to clean it out again. I even bought one of those long, barbed plastic sticks that are supposed to get hair out of your drain, but it didn't work very well. One day while shopping, I found a set of those little drain-shaped screens that had a screen that fit my bathroom sink drain, so took out the stopper and stored it, and put the screen in the drain. It's been FABULOUS!! I never have to do what she's doing, never have to undo the trap and clean it out, and I never have any kind of drain slow-down or odor coming from the drain! The screen catches everything, even when I give myself a haircut. I do have to give the screen a quick rinse after brushing my teeth because the toothpaste foam is too thick to rinse off by itself, but it only takes a second or two to do and it beats having to clean the stopper, the drain, and/or the trap. The set of screens also had one the perfect size for my kitchen sink and I use it all the time.

For cleaning my combs I wash them under running water with a good old Fuller brush comb cleaner. My hair is colored red and they come out nice and clean!

I use one of those plastic toothpicks called pluckers since they don’t disintegrate like the wooden ones. Thanks for the video although I am terrified to clean my drains in the sinks now…..

Andrea Jean, have you tried Joe Campanelli's stain remover on Amazon? As a former Folex fan and product user, I was turned onto Joe Campanelli's from a friend. I was sold the 1st time I used it! Also works well on laundry! Let me know if you end up trying it and what you think!

I purchased a brush-cleaning tool from the Big "A". It was $10 and works like a charm and use it each time I brush my hair. I soak my combs and brushes in ammonia. It loosens all the gunk. Let it sit for an hour, swish the comb/brush around and rinse with water. Done!

thanks for all your tips! In the red stains on carpet, I use salt believe it or not! When juice or wine would get spilled, to help clean it, I right away poured a generous amount of salt on the spot and leave it there for a bit and it draws most of the liquid up in to a clump then cleaned the salt and area up. I was surprised how It worked!

Your videos help me so much. I need to clean grease that gets on the ceiling from cooking, any suggestions on that? Maybe you already have a video about it but it’s very stubborn to get off and the ceiling is such a hard place to scrub. I do have a microwave fan over the stove but it’s just sending the grease to the ceiling, maybe you can suggest a way to prevent it as well. Thanks for your time
