@@vaiga6627 we have to use certain empirical correlations based on the geotechnical data and structural properties to predict the generated by stresses during different loading conditions in the dam at different reservoir levels and rainfall conditions opening of the gates in time time-dependent manner. We have fixed the success criteria and then based on different input parameters we see the attached are we meeting them. The only constraint is to run a huge number of simulations and estimation of uncertainties associated with the numerical method, model input parameters, and physical model.

The problems in my opinion are primarily that predicting rainfall, thus the peak strain on the dams is difficult, while the government has limited funds to make infrastructure and repair infrastructure. Still, I wish you the best of success in your endeavor, as it may well save hundreds of thousands of lives despite the issues I noted.

Very good thx for consideration of this. Prayers for their recovery. An astounding tragedy by any measure, deserved as great amount of comfort sympathy strength & support🙏🕊️
Jebel Akhdar is the Green Mountain where most Libyan precipitation happens, beside forest coverage. Another matter about Wadi Derna & likely among confluence of contributing factors involve the geology & topography, prolly most of the watershed is rather narrowly channelled valley without much riparian space along side, unsure whether characterized as an escarpment but still relatively rapid descent when sufficient precipitation occurs so all the flow will be fast, direct, & full volume.
This cyclone was significant & enhanced by an Omega block, while there was likely a double high pressure block in effect over Libya & to the Northwest over Europe, keeping the Medicane relatively stationary, slow storms will deliver greater amounts of precip over time.
Doubt there's much infiltration, but unsure although obviously exceeded reservoirs capacity & dams were readily breached. A tremendous amount of water with force & energy toward the coastal interface & the sea, but instead of alleviated by an estuary & floodplain the water impacted a sprawling urban area. I'm still questioning the city & structures that had encroached amid the floodplain, any freshwater wetlands & estuary, or what had remained of it, especially with condition of the dams & reservoirs likely enhanced risk since relatively little else toward flood control.

In Australia we are used to floods. In a dry climate like Libya and 400 mm is a Hell of a lot of rain in any ones language. Australains would be getting out of any water courses under those circumastances. Also I have heard it said that the dams were inp[roperly maintanened due to the genral lack of Administration since 2011. Do you think that is true ? Had the rocourses been available 400 mm is still a big ask of a dam. Would it have been possible to open the dam to prevent catastophics falure... maintenace issue (if they existed) aside. Expected life loss would be roughly around 25 lakhs😢...None of the kerala politicians are taking this seriously as control of the dam with tamilnadu who is not interested in reconstruction as they will lose water supply to their state. As the climate heads into greater extremes globally, how can we best deal with future climate crises?
The short answer is that we cannot deal with them unless we take care of nature's inner balance.
We live in a tightly-closed and interdependent system in which everything boomerangs back to us. While living in such a system, we need to reconsider what we want and think, and how we treat each other, because our human connections are the primary influence on how nature responds to us.
It is common to think that climate is dependent on factors outside of us-whether it be balances between heat and cold in the environment, or the effects of various kinds of pollution we emit-because we lack a complete picture of how our attitudes to each other bring about the strongest responses from nature toward us.
No creature distorts nature the way that we people do. And it is not simply a matter of switching to renewable energy sources, electric cars and the like; it is a matter of how we relate to each other.
If we truly wish to witness more balance throughout nature and not have to deal with all kinds of cold waves and other natural disasters, then similarly to how we have electricity, water and gas meters in our homes, we should also have meters that count how much evil we emit into the world from our negative attitudes to each other. What I mean is that if we could feel the extent to which we emit negative forces into the world, which negatively ricochet back to us, then we would wish to change this negative driver within us. We would want to switch it to a drive that makes our human connections positive, and which harmonizes us with nature.
In simple terms, when we get up in the morning, we should first and foremost consider what we need to do in order for all people to have it good. Developing such an attitude is not so simple, yet we will need to seriously work on it as we head into the future. A life of increasing blows from nature or a life of peace and harmony depends on the extent to which we impact a shift in our attitudes to each other-from negative to positive.
