I always forget that Battle Royale is a book but this video has made me feel like I really should read it so fingers crossed I don’t forget it exists again
As someone who was a fan of Battle Royale before the various things inspired by it came around, it always bugged me when people were wholly unaware of the original work. Your point about PUBG's suit against Fortnite in particular was something I had pointed out to others myself.
The fact that you never mentioned Alice in Borderland (in the TV/Film section) who had the LITERAL Royale collars disappointed me SO bad sis LOL but GREAT video.
Battle royale was literally my first and only theft. I borrowed the book from a friend and she never saw the red of that cover ever again. Great video! So good to find you, time to binge on everything you uploaded so far
7:55 just a small fact check, DayZ mod was created by Dean "Rocket" Hall, not PlayerUnknown. They are 2 different people, who worked on 2 different mods for Arma
I wrote SO many book reports and essays on BR in middle and highschool, easily the majority of english essays ive written have been on the book. I LOVED the book and as I discovered BR I lost all enjoyment in the Hunger Games series, it all felt so sanitized in comparison to me. The books were okay but movie vs. movie, BR wins every time for me.
Great Video! I am 100% a fan of the movie, and on the BR was the first to do the teen death game thing. However, The Running Man existed long before and the author of Battle Royale paid homage to it with the exploding head neck bands. Just like I immediately thought of BR when HG came out, I thought of TRM when I first saw BR in 2002. If you haven't seen The Running Man, you should. Just be prepared for some Arnold Schwarzenegger and '80's era cringe (still worth it). TRM was also inspired by Logan's Run (1967) and The Most Dangerous Game (1924) (premise is different for each of these, but the callousness of "human life for spectacle" is very present). Video game wise, there was Twisted Metal, which came out in 1995. It was more demolition derby centric with it's vehicles, but I don't think anyone is going to get blown up by a missile and "get better".
It is such an overlooked and unknown source of inspiration for plenty of media, that a video of you testing a mic has more views than you discussing this subject, as of this moment...
Im sorry, but you didnt name drop BTOOOM at all, and it is NOT YOUR FAULT. it isnt, its always been the marketing of the team themselves :/ one of the most underrated battle royale stories ever told
Streamers still act like PubG invented the concept. Of course they don't even try to make research if that's true. Just coz something looks like it's true you can't just take and preach it is as a truth. Where did all the critical thinking went?
