In the case that I am using an overdrive to push an amp that is already breaking up or distorted, I always like to put the amp's gain right at it's "sweet spot". Then I adjust the OD or boost from there. It keeps everything tight and removes a lot of mud from your tone. Sometimes, pushing an amp or pedal too far results in mush and other unwanted frequencies. That's where gain stacking comes in handy besides just "adding more gain" to your tone.
Bingo!!!
Hey there
I don't know much about amps
When we put the od in front of the amp
It drives the clean channel i suppose
And if we are in the gain channel it drives an already drove amp
Right?
So if an amp has no gain channel?
We ll need two od pedals?
Thanks 😊
@@dimitris70 Man, that honestly depends on many variables and personal preferences. There are cases where you can get away with simply one overdrive/distortion that can cover a lot of ground, such as a DS-1 or Revv G3. Hell, SRV's recorded tones on many records were him simply plugged into a few screaming supers and vibroverbs and almost never used the tube screamer unless he needed a solo boost.
I had to stop around 10 minutes and say thank you. I still consider myself a novice or beginner at guitar but even when playing drums for so many years I realized watching guitarist, they think it’s the guitar or pickups that effects the sound but the effects plugged in and how you dial your amp contributes a lot to sound as well and they seem to ignore or dismiss it. You mentioning and demonstrating the use of the pedal with Slow Dancing is a prime example of how effective pedals and tone shaping in general are essential in making a sound.
Thanks so much for saying this. Comments like these are always encouraging
Great video. It’s about time someone showed how to use the pedal. Interesting beginning to end
Glad you liked it!
I use this pedal to give a desired mid range frequency bump to my tone and attenuate any unwanted high frequencies as well. This allows you to tame amps with too much top end and bass plus adds a midrange presence to a scooped EQ sounding amp. I start by setting the gain to 0 then I bring the output volume up until I reach unity volume level so it doesn’t push the amp into further break up.Then I dial in the midrange frequency I want with the tone knob and then I roll back the highs and lows to my own taste. The Tube Screamer is a great pedal to create your overall tone with and allows you to get your desired sound with any amp (clean or dirty).
I enjoyed this and have some experimenting to do. Would love to see how to on both compressor and delay. I also would like to see video on using the effects loop.
You got it! Soon!
Super helpful video and fun with a lot of humor added in! Subscribed 😎
I've been playing guitar a long time and I really enjoyed this! It's easy to forget to play with the knobs and not just leave them in one place. I can't wait to see what's next! I world love to see some insight into compressors or modulations!
Thank you for watching! Stay tuned there will be many more
Buddy, always appreciate your knowledge on the videos and in person! Thank you for sharing your passion.
I’ve used a Tubescreamer as an underdrive before. I set the amp to a clean tone before it break up and the the TS below unity with the gain all the way down. My core tone will be the TS on and the “boost” is with the TS off.
I love this series!
Love the new format
Whats next and which fuzz will it be?
A fuzz 😅
Sweet video Buddy , need to learn how to get the same tones from my supersonic this is a great start. More of the same please.
More to come!
Thanks Buddy, love the how to concept and more great advice for the novice like me.
Can I please request a video with the Vertex SSS SRV & Ultraphonix MkII combined to achieve the best blues tone setting as I purchashed both pedals from your amazing demos.
Keep up the fantastic work 👍
Great video Buddy, lots of inspiration.
Really informative. Many thanks.
You are so welcome, thank you for watching
One other great trick expanding on your advice to experiment and not get locked into the habit of finding “the perfect spot” on the dials and leaving them there: over the past year I’ve been buying cool old knobs with no markings on them like Tele knurled knobs or old Gibson speed knobs that are so smoky that you can’t read the numbers anymore. I replace the stock knobs on my pedals and not only does this make them look unique but it also immediately causes me to use my ears instead of my eyes to dial in the days tone. I’m still looking for the “sweet spot” but it’s the sweet spot of the day or of the song I’m playing. And if you play two amps together which really takes your sonic journey next level, then it’s all about finding the mixtures of tones that make so many varied cocktails of rock elixir. Overdrive is a hell of a tonic and I get myself drunk on it regularly.
Said it better than I ever could have!
@@BuddyBlues Now as soon as I can play it 1/16 as well as you can we’ll really be in business!
Educational videos are the best
I don't own Tube Screamer pedals anymore but when I did I preferred the ts9 over the ts808.
I love the sound of the 808, but the pedal itself is a disaster. The foot switch sucks, the Led light sucks, you never know if it’s on on stage you have to hover OVER IT
od you have videos on a good "clean tone"?
this video was very informative thank you
I’ve got one coming up!!
Good job on the video. Looks like you had your amp on the Fat setting but I missed your EQ settings. I'm enjoying my Supersonic 22. I'm assuming a person could set the Burn channel to be slight overdrive and run an overdrive into that getting simular effect as two stacked drives.
Buddy, I always enjoy your videos. You make guitar playing fun. Sure,
can you do a compressor video next?
Buddy, This maybe the wrong video to post this on but I want you to know. My Maui Funky-Vibe came in and I hope to have it here soon!!! Thanks for all your help. Again, I always enjoy you and your videos. Please continue. I am watching :)
Very cool! Thank you and congrats!
Love the how to viedo! Lots of demo videos without the where, when and why. Thank you, can you do a video on setting up amp tone. 👊🏻
Ok!!! You got it. Next up is Fuzz! Then amp settings
Excellent information. Long overdue. How do you feel about the Badass? Please review compressors and flangers. Thanks!
I cannot disagree... that is a good sound. Good video, educational. Cheers ☮❤
Thank you! Cheers!
Nicely done! In my opinion, not enough is done demonstrating the tone-shaping possibilities in the guitar itself, including not only pick-up position selection, but the many tonal variations between tone and volume levels.
This is gonna be a great series.. *Rainman-voice* Fuzz should be next, definitely fuzz, yes, fuzz, definitely fuzz
Yeeeeeesssssss
Love it. Keep up the great work. Fuzz next?
Coming soon!
Love your videos man.
Thank you!
I think I need a supersonic wow that sounds amazing then when you played your fav sound make my toes curl wooooow
Maaannn the supersonic is beyond amazing
How about How To Use Overdrive with a Fuzz Face?
Yes sir! Already up you’ll find it in my “how to use a fuzz” video
I have watched quite a few of your videos. Though, I’ve never been a subscriber. This video made me subscribe to your channel. I look forward to more in the series.
Thank you and welcome aboard! The series will keep going until we cover most things pedals and amps
BUDDY BLUES, do another video about on which pedals get that hendrix clean Bell sounding tones, NOT glassy cleans like srv. I'm trying to get those hendrix clean bell shape tones but not sure how to get them.
Great vid loved it
Thank you!
🎉 thank you for sharing, very helpful 😂 you're hilarious too🎉 hope you are well God loves you deeply shalom 🤗🐼♥️✝️💐 Philippians 4:8
I’d like you to do all pedals as a How To.
Dang, through that thin jangly sound (I know the super-sonic is not a "thin" amp), the tubescreamer as a cleanish boost with the drive way low is actually super nice to listen to, and seems like it feels fun to play. I've actually never owned a tubescreamer, but every time I hear one, I wonder why there's a stigma about them. I should probably get one :)
The TS is so dividing haha some people can’t live with it and some can’t live without it, luckily they’re widely available. Let us know if you get one!
So tasty Buddy! 🙂
Thanks dude!!
Next …fuzz, with Sasha …. 😂
U got yourself a subscriber 🎸
Welcome aboard!
Can’t believe you only have 10k subscribers
I honestly can’t believe I have 10,000 😂 I’m just grateful people want to see anything I make
You ever jam on any of Rami Halperin's stuff. He had an early jump on a channel like yours?
Hmm I can't say that I have but I'll check him out!
@@BuddyBlues He's great, but he hasn't done much lately.
How you recorded this? What cabinet you use, and did you putt microfon in front of it or you record direct into intercace?

This was awesome, Buddy. I know you are using a TS, but I purchased a Wampler Moxie and am now learning it's potential. Now I just need a Fender amplifier lol. You're a talented dude.
Thanks so much!! Enjoy the new pedal!
Do I need to have the pedal plugged in in order for it to work 😉. Jkjk
Experiment! Try it with and without 🤣🤣🤣
The funny thing is when I was making this video I thought my amp wasn’t working and I was so upset because the fender never just “doesn’t work”. Turns out it wasn’t plugged into power.
@BuddyBlues classic i love that. I usually run all my gear through a protection strip but always turn it off when done and unplug from outlet. Do to paranoid about electronic and storms and my gear frying. I have throught it was broke before or even worse it storms the night before and I didn't unplug from outlet.
If you did it for hours, we’d listen for hours… Santa brought me the Protein and I’m in love with it.
Santa is the BEST! The protein is amazing man congratulations
Can you share what amp/speakers
Fender supersonic 22 into the ox box
We would like to see you stack every overdrive you own in the longest overdrive chain humankind has ever witnessed.
Plays sweet child of mine poorly for 10 mins straight 🤣🤣🤣
2nd comment now that I watched it all, Amazing post loved it makes so much sense you rock braza 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😉
Glad you enjoyed it!
are you running pedal in front of amp or in fx loop?
In front! I never plug drives into fx loops (or anything really)
@@BuddyBlues
Why is that your rule?
I just don’t have a need for it for what I play, and never underestimate how lazy I am 🤣
Great video Buddy, thanks for teaching us about the overdrive options we can use to dial in the right tone.
Only modulation pedals should go through effects loop (post preamp) to get best preamp saturation with OD pedals without over compression while stacking pedals. Getting a good buffer is also critical when stacking multiple pedals
❤️
👏
Ok dude, Dis video was really good! I keep the gain down low, as a rule of thumb (& I don’t know what I’m doing…duh!), but I will definitely mess around more & keep an open mind about it all. Thank you! I love the “schtick” too! I miss some stuff ‘cause I’m laughin’. 🥸👀
For me personally...the sound of ts808 is the best..🚀🚀🚀🚀🚀
For me personally the sound of YOUR TS is the best.
@@BuddyBlues whattt...🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯..im just afraid the KPOP fans will bullying me..🤣
What more can you see in a "How to use a TS pedal" video...?
20 minutes later: "hmm, let's play it from the beginning"...
Another 20 minutes later: "hmm, where did he try it this way, that way, and oh, the other way?"...
😂😂
As a Gay Guitar player, I agree with this video and approve of the Tube screamer. Also, check out the Peppers Pedal Dirty Tree. The best boost hands down.
What this that mean?
🙇♂️💓🍀🎶 🤘😃
