I feel like Norm came up with those jokes since he knew actual facts about the incident. For example, the joke about "6 million vs 600", Zyklon gas and the pictures from the planes.

He knew about holocaust revisionism for sure. Bringing up David Irving and smokestacks, etc. There's a great documentary about this from the late '90s called Mr. Death, which I bet Norm saw. Or he watched these kind of conspiracy videos in the early days of the internet. By the time he made these jokes on his show, none of this stuff was relevant or in the news.
