Absolutely based, particularly in a world where there is no recourse for justice some sort of personal revenge seems like a societal balance against the overarching power of the abusers. But, the direction it went could not have been more fucked up so you can't even feel joy for the abused regaining control. Weird way to write the story.

I would say stories are told for a reason. Therefore we should be cautious as we what we permit to a certain extent. While i think its fine for these subcultures to exist, i do think if we apply it to a more mainstream context it starts to become more complex. However, taking mainstream contexts off the board I think we can also still look at the way people engage with the piece of art. If the writer intended this to be a serious character study of brutal rape, I would be more intrigued by it and find it permissible. However he said it's "not fun to watch someone get beat up, but very fun to watch someone get raped". That reads to me someone who is flippant about rape at least, and I think that makes this conversation more necessary. If people are watching this to take pleasure in watching brutal rape, that's probably not good. But again, if it's out of the mainstream, it effects a small group of people. Now also I dont mean morbid curiousity type of pleasure either. I mean genuine fun or pleasure, prbly not good but as far as I know the series is more popular because of the controversy. But definitely some weird arguments ive seen online about this Also btw anyone can make whatever art idc what they do, i care more about how the massss engage and if they should engage

@@SmokinSessions yeah thats the dilemma tho, not every story exist for a reason. Some storys just exist for the purpose of existing. And that's also what Art is about. A "bad" story existing without a reason is totally valid, but the same story existing, but created with the background in mind to convince people to do bad, should obviously not exist. What I'm trying to say is, that it always depends on what the artist trys to convey and thats not something you can always know for sure. Therefore you can not ban every art that depicts "bad/evil" themes. When we interpret art, we never consider the artist, its always solely about the art itself. (There r exceptions etc. etc...) If we stick on the topic considering the author of redo healer, there is a point to be made, I see that. The problem is that beating somebody up, killing somebody or SA somebody is all things you should never do. But we still see revenge storys about torture, killing and etc. If those are not banned, why should SA get that treatment? It is awful as the others.

First off let me say I very much appreciate the long reply and I really love the convo, but I am about to be heading to bed. So tomorrow I will dive a bit deeper into what you said here but I do have two notes before doing so. The first is that "stories just existing without a purpose is valid". I heavily disagree. I'm very much someone who believes that all forms of art are underpinned by messages and meanings that are the true value of the art. So let's take a painting for example. Let's say you think a aong is good, not that you like the song but that you think it is an undoubtedly good song in it's nature. I would then start to point to things such as whether a certain vocal or instrument is off key. Are there times that we hear songs sound good with instruments in completely different keys (and I'm referring to completely discordant sounds) sure. However even these discordant sounds can be mapped out to show what underpins the actual reasoning those discordant sounds work together. What I'm getting at, is that the only reason we can not have objective conversations surrounding things such as stories or films is because we have not laid them out as anything other than "entertainment" but I disagree. Certain historical stories wouldn't permeate cultures in the way they do if it were the case. It speaks to something universal in the way we know or understand goodness in relation to media. So I think when looking at stories we must look at things such as the message, and the way people are likely to understand or interact with the story, and the intent of the writer first and foremost and it's entertainment value last. Furthermore I think that stories with meaning and messages tend to be the most celebrated films ever made. Citizen Kane can he a strong example there. I think that speaks to the fsct that by it's nature a meaningless story is at the very least not great and most likely not good. I would say the entertainment element is only good in so far as it makes the story digestable to the audience. Most people dont want to feel preached at, even though they like it when it's done subtly. This is where entertainment value comes in. Furthermore as to why beating someone up or killing them is not as bad as rape, that's heavily what I discuss in the video, people's aversion to rape is due to the extremely private nature in which sex is treated. Generally even in foreign countries being caught in the act so to speak unless in specific rituals, which we can get esoteric if ya want lol, but on a wide scale we see humanity treats sex with humility. Foregoing those base social standards, I actively stand by a lifetime of mental torture due to trauma regarding rape is oftentimes far harder for those people when it is in the brutal nature which the show handles it. Also might I add that the dark nature of rape arises from the PLEASURE derived out of one's TORTURE. I would say a simple beating or murder is not akin to what we saw. It would be more akin to watching a CIA movie where tbey torture a terrorist in an extremely brutal fashion. I would argue that such imagery is also bad because it excuses or makes people a bit more open to viewing such brutal things. Now again on a small scale it's fine, but I would implore most people to avoid engaging with such things like I implore people not to engage with snuff porn. Furthermore human beings are pleasure seekers. If they find pleasure in such things and find themselves more and more fascinated by this imagery it can lead to a desensitization effect, now to what degree is not quite foreseen but I would point to things like stepsis porn for societal desensitization (in that case to incest but I digress). So I think from both the societal viewpoint, and from the viewpoint of overall harm these types of things should likely not be promoted or viewed by wide portions of the populous, and it makes perfect sense why rape something most see as the most evil thing (again due to the nature of sexual pleasure in others pain being quite destructive, as well as how it is conducive to the outcomes of trauma by victims that people might know personally). I apologize for the long reply and idk maybe i answered the rest of ur post too but I again love the convo and ty for havin it! I will read the rest in the morning

Listen I think that totally makes sense, and I myself am fucked up lol and have known fucked up women and men over the years that enjoy messed up stuff. And thats okay, i think the bigger thing is this was aired. I think putting these types of things into the mainstream especially if seen repeatedly could get somebody into a certain fetish for bad reason lets say. So i think theres two types of people, ppl that can engage with it and think about it or even separate it are great. But i think for the avg population that desensitization to these things could be bad. I actually take the same stance on loli, i think it can get people into justifying a certain mindset that some people will have troubles with. Absolutely it was my favorite place to go as a kid. I remember every Summer Toys R Us would do a tent sale ajd have heavily discounted or clearanced toys they were trying to get rid of. I managed to pick up a Virtual Boy for $50 and played it the entire Summer. It's definitely one of those places that if you went to like yourself it's hard to forget it.

the best parts of the game were in the demo. once you get past where it cuts off the game quickly degrades into tedium, contrivances and, in the case of characters interacting with harold, downright unnecessarily meanspirited

@Inkdisc I played the demo as well and really thought there would be a lot more to the game. The most action you get in the game is unscrewing the screws from a wall.

Heck yea I haven't met anyone who saw Rock-A-Doodle-Doo it has such great songs and I didn't even know who Elvis was until after I saw the film. Taika just isn't as funny as hollywood thinks he is. The 1981 film definitely holds up. If you end up watching it definitely let me know what you think of it.
