    Hi,
    Those connectors you are showing at 1.10 are known as wago banana plugs or cage clamps just in case anyone wanted to do a Google search. 👍

    I have many of them never let me dowm. You can obviously make them as long as you want. Top stuff as always

    Thanks for the video Darren, I'm always looking for DIY workshop equipment.
    I've made my own, but soldered them into connectors with proper oscilloscope shielded cable.
    I think you might end up with some issues with EMI, especially when you are in the engine bay with so much interference being produced.

    • @MechanicMindset
      @MechanicMindset  3 роки тому

      Ah ok, cool! I might give them a test across the engine bay 👍

    Nice video! I had this ideea few months ago. But used crimped bnc connectors and RG58 coax cable. This cable is the best to use for scopes.

      @MechanicMindset  3 роки тому +1

      For sure, coax would be better - this was just a really easy way to make the leads. I will test in a high EMI area like engine bay!

    You may want to use shielded wires to avoid EMI/RFI.

      I thought the same; I might do a comparison between the two across a running engine. These cables turned out better than I thought! 👍

    my good... what about makeing some professional probes better than HT30A Hantek ???

    • @MechanicMindset
      @MechanicMindset  Рік тому

      This is rough, but just shows it’s possible and it works. I suppose it would be easy to make some nice quality leads with silicone insulation. They are just so cheap 😁

    Hey. Thanks for the video. I don't think this is a good way to make a good probe. It may solve your purpose and that's great but shielding and uniform impedance should be ensured as much as possible throughout the length of the line which won't be possible because of the connector you used. Also getting a 10X probe is better as it cancels all the reflections that may occur from oscilloscope back to the device under test.

    • @MechanicMindset
      @MechanicMindset  2 роки тому

      For sure, if you are measuring high frequency signals, this is definitely not the the DIY probe for you. But for Automotive testing, it works fine 👍

    would some coax for an old cb radio work?

    • @MechanicMindset
      @MechanicMindset  2 роки тому

      I reckon so, maybe just look for a more suitable BNC connector; these work well for twisted pair

  • @MT_T991

      @@MechanicMindset I bought a 5m coax with BNC connections in both ends cut it in half
      Removed a ring of insulation around 1m down from the cut end.
      Pulled the sheild together then soldered a gnd wire to the sheath.
      This is means to the probe is sheilded to the tip

    How about making a noise or vibration probe from a old knock sensor?

    • @MechanicMindset
      @MechanicMindset  Рік тому +1

      Yes, most scopes you only need one ground connection to the oscilloscope, then the other channels only need one positive connection. Ground not needed
