What wheelchair do you use and what are your thoughts about it? Health Benefits of Standing after Spinal Cord Injury - ua-cam.com/video/21sI3zDV4_s/v-deo.html
I appreciate your positive feedback! I am happy with the chair, but there are some things that can be improved. If you live in the United States and are interested in getting one, I recommend checking out your state's rehabilitation service. They will pay for one. Thank you for watching and commenting!
You got yourself one awesome ride there Mason. I just replaced my 15 year old Permobil Street (rear wheel drive) with an M3 Corpus (mid wheel drive). It took some getting used to the center drive wheels at first because it turns 360° in place and doesn't operate quite the same as the rear wheel drive. The rear wheel drive is more stable when going full speed simply due to the physics of the design. It's great for open spaces and fast driving, but it's harder to maneuver in tight spots. The M3 is great in tight spots but a bit tricky at full speed. Each design has its assets and liabilities. I'm sure you'll be very pleased with your standing chair Mason. I hope that it fulfills your every need! Take care brother, God bless!!!
What a great job. Thank you for showing off your new ride. I get my new wheelchair this Friday. I’m C3 incomplete for 7 yrs. I looked at the standing , however, insurance doesn’t cover it, and it would take a lot of assistance to give me to stand. I have standing frame, and haven’t had any abrasions.
Yeah, insurance doesn't usually pay for the standing feature. I went through vocational rehabilitation to cover the cost of the standing feature. Every state has a vocational rehabilitation service, and I recommend connecting with them if you want to get the standing feature added at some point. I used a standing frame every day for 4 years until I got this wheelchair, and standing in the wheelchair is much more convenient and beneficial. I hope you enjoy your new wheelchair! Quickie S646se tilt. Use permobile back cushion and high profile Roho. Speed helps me keep up with my dogs! I own a few electric chairs. This is my daily chair does about 7.6mph. I have a 4x4 magic 8 I don't use much. A quantum Edge 8 rises, lays flat I can sleep in it. Mid wheel drive I hate. I have a broken c300 with lift actuator that I need to give away or fix. My next chai is a permobile 400 slower but has a lift seat very comfortable. Bought slighty used for $800.00!!!
Whatup Mason!! Nice pick😎. I am waiting for an Invacare Aviva Storm powerchair i was fitted for a few months ago. Thanks for sharing this. Now i really cant wait to see the new features i will b getting.
My power wheelchair is the Permibil M300. It’s a great power wheelchair but I’m preferring to use my Zippie Iris manual chair most of the time. One thing I would like to see is your house. How you made it accessible
Here is my video of me transferring to my Permobil C300. I now use a sliding board because it's much easier on the shoulders and skin. ua-cam.com/video/qxs_ZVjZc7U/v-deo.html
I just had a seating evaluation and they decided I needed a new kind of cushion...and I found out something about the low profile (2 1/2") versus the high profile (4"). Apparently the 4" will make you feel unstable; whereas the lower profile cradles you more and makes you feel more stable. Also, they suggested to slightly under inflate it for the most comfort.
When I got my Permobil F5 Corpus VS, the cushion it came with was all air. However, I had it replaced with air/foam because the all air made me feel very unstable.
@@masonx54 yeah, was it a tall cushion? I hated a ROHO high profile cushion (it was super unstable and didn't cradle me...and was over inflated). The low profile one cradled me more and was slightly under inflated...I had a new best friend.
Mason this is the second one of your videos I’ve seen and thank you for sharing your experiences. I was diagnosed with primary progressive multiple sclerosis and I literally cannot walk. I can barely stand up if I have a stand pole or something I have to use my arms I’ve been using secondhand power chairs for almost 7 yearsand I’ve never had one that will stand me up. Medicade is buying me a chair and we’re in the process of ordering it and I think that this F5 corpus is my desired chair. I love my Quickie QM 710 I’ve had two of them. They’re suspension is great, but I have a feeling that this chair is gonna be awesome
I don't have a spinel cord injury, but i do have moderate dandy walker syndrome, and moderate to severe autisim, and attention deficit hyper activity disorder!
I use the Qm 710 I love the chair such a nice ride it’s like a ruby red such a nice color too! The F5 looks nice dude i love the lights I hope I get this as my next chair!
A great PWC! Great demonstration and presentation of the standing, operation, and cons. It looks like you've elected the more aggressive tires, Mason. At 2,700 miles on the old Permobil C500, and going strong, I believe it's your rear tires (softer compound/ aggressive tread) that cause hesitation on carpet based on never using other than the standard tread option. My primary PWC is a Quickie QM710 as the vendor refused selling a Permobil due to no profit. He offered, Invacare, Quantum, and ROVI - "NO." They dealt with Sunrise Medical and with 3 manual chairs/ one power chair in my past, the Quickie was my choice wo regret. Next time it's an F5!
@@masonx54 FYI. Recently, I discovered that Permobil use two-pole motors in their F3 and M3 pwc models. Their F5 and M5 models use four-pole motors. The smaller pwc's are intended for indoor/ light-duty outdoor applications - two-pole motors use less battery, but do not have the torque four-pole motors have. The F5 and M5 are more robust and endure rural living, last longer, and consume more battery. Permobil - nothing compares in quality, durability, and engineering. The Quickie QM710, with four-pole motors (both replaced a third time), has been a disappointment due to break downs.
Matt Miller (Permobil) recently shared the 2023 F5 and M5 have two pole motors. He assured me that they're as tough as ever. The squeaks after E-Z lock install would bug me too. A really great review! I'll be barrowing all of your ideas thanks to detailed explanations - thanks!@@masonx54
Mason, it appears you have gained a noticeable amount of upper body strength: and your agility has definitely improved. Do you attribute your progress to the increased amount of stand up time? Have you noticed an improvement? Also, have you checked out the Berkel bike? If not, please do. With the FES stimulation, the bike allows a paralyzed person to build muscle below their level of injury. They can regenerate atrophied muscle and eliminate pressure soars. These bikes are really cool. The people I have seen using them are noticeably in good health. I realize you are busy with work and college but if you have the time I would really appreciate your opinion regarding these bikes.
I believe I have improved my strength over time, not necessarily due to standing. I have not heard of the Berkel bike but just looked it up. I know about stationary FES bikes and handcycles but the Berkel bike seems to combine the two, giving great results.
@@masonx54 Hey, I somehow missed your reply regarding the Berkel bike. I just read your reply. Thank you. The one thing that stood out to me when I watched their videos was how healthy users of these bikes looked. To be able to rebuild muscle regardless of paralysis is pretty exciting. It prevents pressure sores. The health benefits are amazing. Increased lung capacity. I was impressed .
I was hoping I would see you drive it around outside on different kinds of train and comment on that. I had a Permobil C500 VS and I found it to have a number of drawbacks because of its rear wheel steering/front wheel drive. When going down a steep hill, the steering becomes very sensitive and it has a tendency to want to turn around completely. When there's snow or ice, it has difficulty maintaining a straight line on any kind of cross slope, so crossing driveway entrances can sometimes be impossible as at the first sign of a drive wheel slip the thing wants to turn uphill into the snowbank. It was also very slow, though it sounds like yours will drive much faster. I would like to see you drive at top speed. After 10 years with the C5 hundred I have switched to a Rovi A3 mid wheel drive standing chair. The mid wheels make it much easier to spin around in a confined place, and it tracks better either uphill, downhill, or on cross slopes while driving at 10 km/h/ 6 mph at top speed.
I do not like center-wheel-drive. I prefer front-wheel-drive. I will talk about my opinion of the wheelchair in my video coming up about the F5 VS after 3 years. Thank you for watching and commenting!
As for the squeaking noise I recently used a Silicone spray just a little on the tracks of my Permobil F5 VS and it's been fine since. The spray that I used was in a yellow spray can. Hope that helps.
I actually fixed the squeaking by putting WD-40 on the metal slides under the seat that adjust when you stand up. However, silicone spray is a good idea for some other squeaking and rattling that I'm having. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I'm pretty sure some people have been able to get their insurance to pay for the standing feature. If you live in the United States, each state has vocational rehabilitation services, and they will help pay for the wheelchair.
Hi Mason thanks for sharing this review. My fiance is C4 complete since 2016 and he's eligible for a new chair this fall. He currently has the F3 and we've been looking at this one. Hoping insurance will approve this instead of a new wheelchair and separate standing frame. He's 6'4 275lbs and this would make things easier on both of us. I'd appreciate any advice you can share for getting approved.
Mason, I have a friend who is a new C4 complete. He’s a 19 YO male, 6’5”, 150lbs. I recommended he looked at this exact model standing chair. Are there any other models or options you recommend?
Currently, this is the best wheelchair available in my opinion in my opinion. I'm around 6'3" and 160 lbs, so we are about the same. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Hey Mason it's good to see you again I was wondering how you were doing and wanted to wish you a merry Christmas and happy and prosperous New Year hope things are going well I love your chair I have a Quantum combined three and six with mine and I'm having a lot of trouble trying to get it repaired I've had it a little over a year and it's been in the shop well done needed to be repaired eight times already but LOL about eight times but anyways just wanted to let you know that it's a great video and did you were you able to finish and graduate from your college that is something amazing just amazed that the things that you're able to do and it's just really inspiring and you inspire a lot of people you just don't know it how far you reaching I just wanted to let you know I'm glad I found you again I got a new phone I like to never found you cuz I couldn't for the life of me remember your last name I guess it was because of where I had my stroke but I hope things are going well for you and your family and God bless! I'm jealous of the head lights and blinkers, I wish I had them on my jazzy j6 power chair 😂 unfourtanately, my power chair charger does the opposite of what your charger does regarding staying plugged into the battery and it's annoying 😩 my dad would probably not like where the front tie downs are, that's probably annoying as well
Yes, insurance companies typically don't pay for the standing feature. I suggest going through your state's Vocational Rehabilitation to help pay for the standing feature.
Hey Mason, great video as always. I use the QEdge 3 which I don't like but it is what it is... Does your chair have the memory setting on it and do you use the GPS feature on it for your phone ? I'm guessing insurance didn't pay for it?
Hey Jeremy, my wheelchair does not have the seating memory function. I'm not sure that I know about the GPS feature. Insurance paid for the basic wheelchair and functions other than standing. Vocational Rehabilitation paid for the standing function.
My insurance don't want to approve standing function and seat elevator because they consider primarily non-medical in nature. And these function are too much expensive. Have you had this problem and do you know how can I solve it? Thank you
Hi Mason, I am looking into getting this chair from the DOR. Are you able drive from this chair? The concern for me is stability of the chair once you’re going 50+ mph
Hey, John! Yes, I am able to drive from the Permobil F5 VS wheelchair. I was actually able to keep the EZ-Lock system in the same location in my van, but they did have to raise it up.
I suggest getting the leatherette arm rests because the kind I have do not hold up. That's one thing I would've done differently. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Great breakdown! I'm on 6 years with my F3 which is my first chair. I'm going to start the process for getting a new one next month and I want to try and get the same one you have now in the F5 vs. I am guessing I'll need to finance the upgrade portion. Do you know ballpark about how much that might be? When I upgraded to seat lift in my F3 if I remember right it was about $2800 out of pocket but I imagine the VS is going to be significantly more. Hopefully I will in the least qualify for the F5 which is "Group 4" device, whereas the F3 I guess was Group 3.
Surprisingly, it didn't cost me anything out of pocket. I went through insurance from my work and Vocational Rehabilitation. What my insurance did not cover, Vocational Rehabilitation covered. I highly recommend going through Vocational Rehabilitation if you have not previously.
@@masonx54 I think I'll do that, I closed my case with Utah VR after my associates as I'm focusing on moving to CA (my children live there it's where I lived when I had my car crash) before I proceed with schooling, it may be that I get the new chair once I've moved and established with a new VR there. Challenge is finding accessible subsidized housing, I'm not working yet and have been living at my parents home. I'm on some wait-lists for apartments that are for aged 65+ and adults with disability but they are year long lists. I am going to look into housing through school/vr too but I initially wanted to move and get established first before taking on classes again. I'm still needing a nurse for my bowel program but during the pandemic I ended CNA's got a new bed and got rid of the hospital bed and I've been dressing myself for about 8 months now so I'm stoked about that, I knew I could do it since I learned it in outpatient rehab but I couldn't with the narrow bed. Anyway I'll quit yakking your ear off lol. Thanks for the videos I've really appreciated you guiding me and helping since my first few months. Take care.
@@masonx54 I’m working with my local hospital and the F5 is a group 4 so if I wanna get that one I’m gonna have to pay something out of pocket because the insurance only pays for the F3 which is a group 3 chair
My wheelchair has about 200 mi on it about how many miles can you expect to get out of a power wheelchair someone said mine's about used up but it seems to still be doing a good job
My wheelchair has 956 miles on it right now. How long have you had your wheelchair? I've had mine for three years and average less than one mile per day, which is really low. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I can't really find anything about that. I'm assuming a standard headrest is "fixed" and a "low back / agility" headrest is adjustable. If you have a link to pictures, etc. let me know, and I can take a look. Thank you for watching and commenting!
I think many insurance companies will try and gyp some one out of their measured measurements and give you wheelchairs or medical equipment they already have in the shop. I have seen this happen several times now and they did it to me twice. I know of one girl who measured 17 X 19 and they gave her one that was 18 X 20 because the tech said she was 'going to get fatter'. Balogne...that was a standard size one that was already in the shop. She ended up getting pressure sores behind the knees because the seat length was too long. There was a girl with severe CP...they gave her the wrong color one as well as it was also 18 X 20 instead of her 16 X 19. They thought she wasn't able to speak up for herself and tried to pawn something else off on her that was in the shop. Please don't assume wheelchair companies are on the up and up. What kind of chair do I use...a Colours Spazz-G with NaviONE power assist wheels. I was told I needed a power wheelchair...but since I broke my neck goofing off in a power wheelchair (imagine the irony there), I refuse to get one...but I thought the power assist wheels was a good compromise. Are you sure WD 40 or velcro pads won't help with that squealing? Dan, with 'Totally Normal' also drives with an EZ Lock and I believe he did a video on how he eliminated the squeak. He had that issue as well I believe. He can repair any power wheelchair blindfolded...so you may get some good tips from his videos.
Yes that is so freaking ironic how you broke your neck. It's almost as if its a punishment for making fun of a wheelchair. Of course you didn't deserve it. So sorry
@@uberdriver8743 'making fun of a wheelchair'? Not quite following you there. I was goofing off on a steep hill, flipped over backwards and apparently got one heck of a whiplash... dislocated and chipped C4 and my spinal cord took the brunt of a rock.

Hey Jennifer! Yes, I love the feeling of standing up. I got an Easystand Evolv standing frame in 2017 and have been standing everyday since then. Standing in my Permobil F5 Corpus VS feels much more natural, kind of like my body is less supported or stiff.
@@masonx54 Thank you for your answer! Looks like it would be possible to urinate that way, maybe with the hips just a little more forward. Feels like it would make going to the bathroom much easier if you don't have to switch from the wheelchair.

Hello, I have an injury similar to yours and I´m thinking of buying a standing chair. My idea was to buy the Quickie Q700-Up M. How is your front-wheel drive Permobil doing indoors?
It's doing great. I prefer front-wheel drive over mid and rear-wheel drive. That's one of the reasons I did not get this standing wheelchair. ua-cam.com/video/iRqg2TiG_wk/v-deo.html
@@masonx54 Thanks for answering. I live in a not very big apartment with an elevator, so I need maximum maneuverability indoors. My previous chair was a Levo Combi that lasted me more than 15 years and was central traction. Sorry for my English... I am writing to you from Spain, Europe

Awesome! I'm not sure if the first strap I got came standard or it's just what was ordered but it had a button on it that was difficult to push and line up to buckle. Hey Tara! Yes, I went through insurance and Vocational Rehabilitation to get the wheelchair and it took six months. I did not write my own letter of medical necessity. However, I got denied by insurance for my EasyStand Evolve standing frame in 2015 and needed a letter of medical necessity. My insurance paid for the standing frame after the first denial.

@@masonx54 Nice if you have that facility. Too much money spent paying top bosses stupid salaries so they have to cut back somewhere and the patient usually ends up with a shitty deal.
Used to be a "top boss" here in the Australian disability industries. Compared to other job areas, the good bosses do not want the bad pay of the disability sectors.

Yes, I believe it was a high profile ROHO.
@@masonx54 that may be why you felt unstable.
Awesome! I'm assuming you are getting the Permobil F5? Thank you for watching and commenting!
Awesome chair! Gives me a lot more to talk about on my new chair evaluation next month
Thanks! Goodluck!

I use the Qm 710 I love the chair such a nice ride it’s like a ruby red such a nice color too! The F5 looks nice dude i love the lights I hope I get this as my next chair!
Awesome! I hope you get the Permobil F5 as well! Thank you for watching and commenting!
It hasn't been happening for a little while now, so that's good. I have only owned a Permobil power wheelchair and a TiLite manual wheelchair.
That's good to know, thanks. Yeah, Permobil is generally good quality but I have had a few issues.
Can i purchase this from Bangladesh?
Would you be willing to give the Berkel bike a try?
Definitely.
Put some grease on your pistons in the back. If there’s alot of dirt in the air, mine does that too.
I recently told be someone at Permobil to use Silicone spray rather then WD-40
Anyone know if Medicare will pay for the standing option? My DME dealer said that Medicare and insurance won't pay for it standing.
I'm pretty sure some people have been able to get their insurance to pay for the standing feature. If you live in the United States, each state has vocational rehabilitation services, and they will help pay for the wheelchair.
Amazing chair, turn signal, hazard lights, flashlight, etc.
Yes it is! The standing feature is a must-have now that I know what it's like to have it on a wheelchair. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Hey Kathryn, are you going to be going through vocational rehab?
Mason, I have a friend who is a new C4 complete. He’s a 19 YO male, 6’5”, 150lbs. I recommended he looked at this exact model standing chair. Are there any other models or options you recommend?
Currently, this is the best wheelchair available in my opinion in my opinion. I'm around 6'3" and 160 lbs, so we are about the same. Thank you for watching and commenting!

Yeah, I use the headlights a lot more than I thought I would.
Hey there did you have trouble getting them to pay for the standing feature my insurance is being difficult
@@masonx54 the GPS is called, Permobil Connect Module or something like that. You can connect it to your phone.
I have the MyPermobil app and just checked to see if it has GPS. It does, so I guess I didn't even know. Haha Thanks for watching and commenting!

My insurance don't want to approve standing function and seat elevator because they consider primarily non-medical in nature. And these function are too much expensive. Have you had this problem and do you know how can I solve it? Thank you
Yes, it is rare for insurance companies to approve to pay for the standing function. I went through vocational rehabilitation and they covered it.
Hi Mason, may be getting this chair, any tips?
I suggest getting the leatherette arm rests because the kind I have do not hold up. That's one thing I would've done differently. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Awesome video on UA-cam your wheelchair is awesome try to stay safe
Take care.
