  • In this video we take a look at the market leader in standing powerchairs, the Permobil F5 VS.
Due to the extensive nature of the product we only wanted to focus on the standing function as this is what truly sets the chair apart from the competition. I really hope this is of interest to everyone and that it represents the product in the best way possible.

Hi! Jay in America here. I have the F5 VS Corpus and absolutely love it. It has brought a whole new level of independence to my life. There are so many more features than just standing that make this chair awesome. I would highly recommend looking into this chair .

Hi Jay! Yes you're absolutely right, the chair really is incredible and if we could, we'd love to talk about every single feature. I'm not sure the majority of people would appreciate a 2 hour video though! 🤣 Thank you so much for getting in touch and we hope you continue to enjoy your F5VS!

Standing is so important! Bone-density loss will come to haunt all SCI's if standing is ignored. My injury happened in 1980, I was twenty-three years old. Standing wheelchairs arrived after my legs were broken a few years apart. Some buddies built a corner in our home that enabled me to stand with one-person assistance in the early days. Twenty-two years after my SCI was damaged several post-injury accidents forced me into power wheelchairs. My 2014 Permobil C500 (2,700 miles) stays charged as my back-up chair. A F5 Permobil is near delivery, but no standing as explained. I have experienced several group three PWC's, but my Permobil has outperformed all others. Permobil now use two-pole motors across the board and make their own batteries. Tires, batteries, and upholstery replacements define my Permobil experience - highest quality available. This new Permobil has a working suspension - maybe 4,000 - 5,000 miles expected.

I'd like to get into a standing position on a chair like that, though I barely have the strength to stand. I wonder if there's a way to sit while 'standing' kinda like how the SXNYC Stand up Walker have that crotch seat/support. So that most or some of my weight is taken off my feet. Like a mechanism that can be implemented into the seat and it perhaps locks into position. Or something sturdy I can wear like an undie and it attaches to the chair somehow so that when I stand it supports more of my weight. Then returns to a normal seat when I put the chair into a seated position. I'd like to someday get into a standing position with a chair like that and actually be able to hug others like that. As well as reap all the other benefits of 'standing'. I don't think my legs with AFOs can support much weight especially for much of a time. Though it's possible... the AFOs and things like the knee guards can help. Speaking of which, I don't think I'll be able to get this type of chair in this century. Though I'm interested to try its standing feature and see if it's something I may like in the more distant future. How do you think I can best go about getting to try it's standing and 45° active reach it in Canada?

Permobile wheelchairs are the best, especially Permobile F5, but they are very expensive.

    Hi Jay
I bought one but I am having problems with the backrest since I am 6'4 tall and I have a sensitive back which the original backrest has a like 6-inch gap between the seat cushion and the backrest . Which it hurts me when using the lay flat and others position .
My technician (Newmotion)tells me that they don't make a full backrest from factory and they can only try to offer an aftermarket. I see the video and it shows a full backrest with no gap in between . Please I need some help with this matter since being over 6 months battling this issue

Hi Tollo, thank you for getting in touch. The F5VS does have it's limitations if you're particularly tall, Permobil do have a range of backrests with plenty of size options so they'd need to be explored first. If not then the third party route would be your best option. Hope this helps.

    What’s the price range ?

Hello Ronald, thank you for getting in touch. The Permobil F5VS starts from £26,300 and doesn't really have much of an upper limit purely due to how capable it is. Naturally there is a lot that is included in the starting price, the additional costs would be seating and special control related. Hope this helps

I would find it much more helpful to see a person who uses a chair in this demonstration.

I'm sure able bodied people built them and they know its features.
