Thanks so much Bebop, very happy to hear how much you watch my videos, really pleased you learn from them. Actually that is a great request, I am trying something a bit new (I'll be announcing this soon) but it's along the lines of jazz variations on popular / famous songs, and I think a Beatles or Beach Boys song might work perfectly, so I've noted your request. I'll see what I can do! Again, thanks for the comment, and feel free to make requests any time!
I agree. There is something magical about three. The Latin rhythms' syncopation do a good job 'disguising' the beat, but you cranked it up a notch. I would imagine a dancer's feet crossing the bar line from time to time. haha
Thanks so much Odge, means a lot. I was very pleased when that title came to me. In fact, the title came half-way through composing it and completely changed the direction of the music. I do love a good title! It's very important.
Thanks Ken, that's how the inspiration came - I took a 4/4 bossa nova rhythm and squashed it into 3/2. I'm a big fan of the 3, 6, and 12 time signatures. You can divide them up into so many groupings
That's great news - I was surprised to find you teaching some beginner tutorials of non-jazz songs, and I'm thrilled that you're giving some other genres the jazz treatment. Normally I'd never suggest someone messing around with Beatles or Beach Boys music, except for personal study. But I really like your approach to reinventing a piece. Can't wait to hear what you do with the familiar pop songs. That's a great idea.
Hi Joeb, sure - I use logic pro to compose / mix the music in. And I browse through logic's drum loops (some of which are really good), especially the latin american percussion selection. Then I played in the bassline using the 'upright bass' sound in logic's exs24. And then I just play piano over it. So all done in logic :)
jazztutorial Julian: I have a Kawai 5'10" acoustic grand. I guess Logic Pro would not work with an acoustic piano for making/using backup tracks like this. Or, if you know of a way to make a backup track in an acoustic setting I would surely appreciate any advice. I just need a rhythm section; if it can't be human then I will settle for digital. But I really can't afford a digital rig at this time and I really like acoustic pianos. Thanks so much for getting back. Most people that post on YT don't get back. So thanks a bunch.
If you're on a mac you might be able to do the same thing using garage band (a simplified version of logic), and I would imagine PC might have similar program. But I do like logic's loops, most of them are acoustic recordings so they sound real and not digital. You could probably search the internet for some bongo / conga loops also and see what comes up.
Hey Julian I'm an old subscriber with a new account. I've watched a ton of your tutorials and I'm finally getting around to watching your original stuff. I KNOW you have a ton of requests, so think of this as just a random statement/compliment. But I'd LOVE to see what you do with a Beatles or Beach Boys song. "God Only Knows" A la Julian Bradley... love yer work buddy!
The only thing more genius than this piece is the title you've given it. Fits perfectly.
You're welcome James, thanks for the comment. I'm really happy to hear these videos are useful!
Holy mother of god. A tutorial on half of that song, and if i manage to learn it, i'll die a happy man.
Nice, I was watching some amazing Salsa dancing last night. I'd love to see how those dancers would interpret this one!
Man you're so good. Thanks for all the time you take to make tutorials and performances of your nice songs.

Thanks Yung, glad you're enjoying these. Request is noted, I've added it to the list, I'll see what I can come up with! Thanks : )

Excelente! Obrigado.
Excelent
Julian: Very nice indeed. Can you explain how the rhythm backing track was assembled?

You should make a tutorial for Amy Winehouse's rendition of There is no greater love. Id be in your debt forever lol
