If these videos were around when I was learning Spanish at school, I honestly believe I would be fluent (pretty much) by the time I finished school. I’ve been binging these videos for just a week, and everything I forgot from school has come back in floods and I feel like I know more than ever. Estoy tan seguro como siempre de que podré hablar español con fluidez.
Holy moly! This video was so clear and concise. Consulting a textbook used to be my method, but your short videos simplify things so well. I just found my new Spanish tutor, you! Thank you for providing this free resource to us English speakers who struggle with learning Spanish. There's a special place in heaven for teachers like you
I've never left a comment on anything ever, but I'm here to say that this is the ONLY video I've watched that helped me understand when to use tan vs. tanto/a/os/as. I took a practice quiz yesterday (for college, Span II) and got a 34%. I just took a different quiz covering this topic after watching this short video today and got a 100%. AMAZING! Thank you so much for these videos!
I'm sure there are some wonderful UA-camrs who teach Spanish with minimal English, but I get so overwhelmed hearing the rapid-fire Spanish that I can't concentrate on the lesson, so I'm very glad of videos like this that don't go the immersive route, but instead communicate clearly in English until it's time for the examples. Thanks!
Great vid as usual! Here’s another interesting use of “tanto”: No es para tanto is often used to say something is not a big deal or worth a big fuss.
I paid a tutor $300 and yet, I didn’t understand the difference between “tan, como” and “tanto, como” until I watched your video. Gracias! Subscribed!
I'm so glad to hear that. Glad you found me!
I'm so grateful for you and these videos!
Those words always threw me off, so good vid!
when my actual Spanish teacher doesn't teach us Spanish (which is always)
"Por lo tanto" is "therefore." I just texted to my Mexican friend for something. She texted me back using "por lo tanto." What a coincidence.
This video helped me complete my spanish hw today, and for that I thank you.
Mi también :)
This clears up a lot! Thanks!
Better than my spanish professor and spanish intro book thanks so much!
The way you explain this objective is excellent, I used it for my students from the beginning to the end. thank you.
Wow! You are really good and easy to follow.
Terrific. Great lesson. Killing it as always. Gracias!
Good video!
Grammar check at the 6:00 minute mark you said; "it is está and not son". Should have said it is "está and not están"
Tan is an adverb so it describes verbs and adjectives. Tanto is a quantitative adjective so it precedes nouns unlike qualitative adjectives which follow nouns. Since "tanto" is an adjective it has four forms as mentioned.
I like to teach with a little more literal translation sometimes. "Tan...como"dynamically translated as "as...as" but it literally means "so...like"
Therefore, "El es tan rapido como un león" is dynamically "He is as fast as a lion" but literally "He is so fast like a lion" (Which BTW is not smooth English, but demonstrates the point.)
"Gente" is a collective noun, which means it is a singular noun that implies plurality. Such as; crowd, herd of cows), or flock (of birds).
"Gente" takes singular verbs in much the same way as "crowd" does in English.
The people ARE moving, but the crowd IS moving.
Now you know I'm a teacher! 👨🏫
Anyway great video and well explained. I still haven't found the instructions on how to record an intro for a tidbit. Also, Big Lew needs a 3x shirt you only go up to 2x. ¡Gracias compañero!
Thanks for throwing that in there about how it literally means "so...like". It sometimes helps when you know how the actual words are used and then also how they translate. This makes it easier to plug in to sentences, in the same way as finding out "me gusta" is "It is pleasing to me" but is translated as "I like it". Great video Jordan and great comment Big Lew. Oh, just for laughs Big Lew, it's "herd". Lol. We all need grammar checks once in a while :)
unka2m Touché ( Can I use French on this channel?) I know, that was more of an unnoticed typo. I have edited it. Heard is now Herd in the above comment.
I have also found the Tidbit intro instructions.
This comment helped me. Thank you!
Thanks for catching the ser/estar mistake.
I’ve decided to start my daily routine with one of your videos, you are energetic and make me laugh, thank you
Very informative, muy agradecido!
Great video. It helped a lot.
A friend of mine who is a native speaker of Mexican Spanish taught me “ no es para tanto” for “it’s no big deal.” Wondering how that fits in here if at all.
"Tanto tiempo sin verte = long time no see" or can be also "mucho tiempo sin verte" both work but I think the 1st one is the most commonly used. (own experience)
EDIT: Theres a typo @1:00, verb to be missing.
I can't believe I missed that typo!! I look at these videos so many times before uploading lol. Thank you!!!
Also, thank you for the phrases. Both good ones! I say both.
is there a difference between TAN & TANTO with MUY & MUCHOS/AS ?
@@gelogelato9724
Tan: To Compare
"Tan" grande "como" una montaña-----> "as" big "as" a mountain
Tanto: So much
Tanto que te dije que no lo hagas----> So much time i told you no to do it
Tanto: As Much ... as---->To Compare
Corte la manzana tanto como dijiste-----> I cut the apple as much as you said
Muy: Very
the water is very hot
muchos/muchas: Mamy
Hay muchas personas ganando mucho dinero
There are many people making/earning a lot of money.
I never comment, but this video is seriously so helpful. I'm studying for the Spanish CLEP exam, and I've read so many examples of this in the practice books and mini lessons, but none made as much sense as this video! Thanks for breaking it down :) I really really appreciate this video!
I love it ! Thank you so much ! :)
Thanks Dude. I was just pondering the mystery of Tan/Tanto and Gente/Personas and your tidbit lucky no. 13 solved it :)
Awesome that one video solved both mysteries. Thank you for letting me know. Without messages like this, I woulda quit a long time ago.
Got a test today and you are catching me up!
Great explanation which I needed. My spanish is pretty good but I was a bit stuck on the tan/tanto difference. Muchísimas gracias hombre !
Ha ha the tidbit has grown to 9 minutes. Great video as always!
Me gustan tanto las matemáticas como (me gusta?) la química?
I like math as much as I like chemistry?
Gracias por el video🙏🏼 Todo está mucho más claro ahora.
Muchas gracias
Claro. Gracias
De nada!
Great video
Is anyone else here for spanish homework?
I was
Dog I genuinely believe I have the worst Spanish teacher possible.
@the spanish dude 0:52 you said "Ella es tan inteligente" but the screen says "Ella el tan intelligente "
gracias! esto video me ayuda porque en la clase de español ayer, hablábamos acerca de los conceptos de "tan" y "tan como".
I’ve also seen tanta and tanto used for “silly.” Are those different words?
Gracias maestro desde india
I just learned more from this video than I did from my sorry spanish course I pay $1200 for because apparently foreign languages are required for certain majors
I love it! I mean, I'm sorry. I mean, thank you for this awesome comment! Glad I can help. That's my goal.
Could you do a video on "se" in general please? For instance - "Se queda" "Se puede" "Poderse". A quick way to think about the differences with them and how they translate would be awesome.
it just means themself. Se queda just means she keeps themself or they stay (singular)
Se is the El\ella reflexive form. Look up Jordan's video on reflexive pronouns. That explains it all.
I love your videos. I noticed there is a typo on first visual at 51 second mark. It should say “es” instead of “el”. Ella es tan intelligente instead of ella el tan intelligente.
gran video
life saver ty
tannnnnnnn util! Gracias
Hi Jordan
At 5.58 you said esta' is used not son because gente is singular, did you not mean esta' instead of estan?
Another great video explained so good. Thanks!
I caught that too, mistake in his lesson, right?
hi Jordan,I want to know the difference between ' empezar ' en ' comenzar '. I learned that both mean ' to start ', but when do I use which verb ??
Andre They’re interchangeable, just like to start and to begin.
welcome to Spanish, these 2 are the most common but also sometimes, principiar, iniciar, arrancar and partir are also used.
@@danortego6201 all of those words have slightly different meanings. Iniciar = to initiate
arracar = to take off, partir = to depart
When he says "It's esta and not son" wouldnt it be estan, not son?
Hey Dude.. at 6 min.. Is there a mistake. Sounds like you go from using estar (esta) and mention son which would be a ser conjugation.. right?
He clearly says they use esta not son in this case
@@TheBUCKNASTY101 You’re not understanding the nature of the error. He should have said, “...we use está and not ESTÁN.”
@@davegeorge4757 ok
contaminación atmosférica is how you say air pollution in Spanish
I love your tshirt..can i ask one please 😊🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I think there is no more about it! ; )
Are you saying I explained it completely? not sure I understand.
i dont know if it just works for me or anybody else but i (somehow) focus better with music in the backround
(just a suggestion)
works for me
for me one easy way to remember a phrase or word is to find it in a song and sing it afterwards. So there is a song QUE TAL by a band called FONDO FLAMENGO, saying ''estas tan guapa como siempre''. The strange thing is that he does not pronounses the ''s'' sound. Hasta siempre
Flamenco is from the south of Spain. In the south of Spain the "s" is often not pronounced at the end of a syllable
Can someone tell me why "que tan lejos" means how far... what is the argument for using tan in this sentence?
So saying "tan muchas cosas" would not be correct, right? you would say "tantas cosas" or are both correct?
"Tantas cosas" is correct but "tan muchas cosas" is wrong.
Erik Ugarte Zarraga that's right!
You have received good information from Erik =)
lo hice algunas veces , pero no tanta y tan constante como quiero. .not as much ,and so , consistently as i wish
Also, not to be confused with tonto... Lol
Tanto
Mi frase favorita en español es "tantos tontos" n¡¡jajaja!!
We can mean "tan rápido como" as "so fast like". That is, "él es tan rápido como un león" can be "he is so fast like a lion".
You have an interesting speech pattern...
You leave interesting comments...
Gracias
Would the as... as... translation hold in this context? Buscamos donaciones tanto de alimentos como de dinero
Jordan, there is a spelling error. It says "ella EL tan inteligente." Shouldnt it say "ella ES tan inteligente"
Screen says “Ella EL tan intelligent el”…
I confuse it with tonta🤣qué tonta
ella ES tan intelligente, si?
6:00
It's está and not están
*the dude*
No se que hago aquí, ya sé español, tanta gente desocupada :'v
Oh cool. This has a lot of a similarities with German... so... wie...
I love to watch your videos, but you speak way too fast for me. I have to keep stopping and backing up to try to understand the point you’re making. However you’re very entertaining and explain the subject well.
Is para que and
Tan que
The same¿
Esta video es tan claro como un agua.
Hay tanta camisa rojo aqui como ayer
Tanto Excusas
To be honest, 4:05 made me laugh slightly...
Edit: Also 6:05
lol me tooooo HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA WEIRD
who came because mrs flanagan told them to even though it almost made me fall asleep
3:02 This guy is a definition of a gringo 😂😂😂🤣🤣
Indeed I am. I am who I am.
@@elspanishdude no hate, your funny dude
Jordan: "For the first ass, we use......"
My innocent self who just came to learn Spanish: 😳
Tu hablas "tan" rapido. (HUGO)
How come she had to think about her own name?
Can't you just also say hay mucho vino?
Yes, you can. "Hay mucho vino" is perfectly fine.
Yo Pablo español y me gustaría hablar ingles para ser mas popular no se crean solo para ser un poco inteligente
Bruuuuuh how you gon mention the president... like bruh you could of used any other person but you chose him...smh
dont throw politics in here guey
I will do exactly what I want. When I want. If you don't like some headline because it contains something about politics, I would say : don't watch. Why so sensitive?
tantas gentes aun apoyan Donald Trump por que Hilary es tan malo...lol
Tanta gente aún apoya a Donald Trump por tan mala que es Hillary
Tanta gente aún apoya a DT ya que HC es tan mala!
... DT por ser HC tan mala!
other than the liberal propaganda, i thought the video was very helpful!
jordan ward He just used a relevant headline about Trump as an example of real-world Spanish, same with the pollution bit. No propaganda at all.
You are asleep if you really think that because out of millions of headlines that have no political bent, THIS ONE DOES ! and it is not unbiased !!!!!!
jordan ward Hypersensitive? How do we say it in Spanish?
It posed a question and wasn’t even answered. Be less sensitive snowflake
Hey, I like how you taught, keep politics out of this.
It isn't political. He used a sample headline. It isn't like he gave his opinion
Politics? The question should be why is there anyone who doesn’t support the amazing Donald Trump who had us energy independent and had the best economy in 50 years in the USA.
Need to work on your accent fella
