Vito's email take ruined my Saturday. I perked up when he brought it up, hoping he'd talk about how every website, service and app insist on sending you emails you will never read that only function as notifications you couldve gotten from the app. No, instead he promotes a centralized service like Slack to replace the very last bastion of decentralized self-hosting and owning your own data. What the fuck does he mean "find a way to organize email", google is only relevant because Gmail has a working spam filter!

Please explain vito how a movie, that has not been released and doesn't have a theatrical cut or anything resembling an intrinsic value is written off as asset value depreciation. What you are saying doesn't make sense in Chinese law let alone US.
In order to qualify for a tax write off, you have to be able to prove that the "X", which equals an actual investment, will not be able to recoup X amount of money for a certain period of time more often than not 5 years but this is different for different jurisdictions and asset categories. Therefor in performing the write off, you can claim X - Y in tax deduction where Y is how much of that X investment has gone into financing assets that can or will be used by the business in the future.
You can't as a company claim that your "would-be" movie would be worth or would make 100 million dollars on release and therefor that is how much money it is worth as an asset, and write that off. Every single tax deduction can be challenged on legal grounds. Zaslav doesn't want the IRS to come in and ask "Why do you think your Batgirl movie is worth this much money as an asset?" because that is a difficult challenge. What he is doing is cancelling projects, moving what little is left of the budget away from the project and therefor allowing the WB legal department to start making tax deductions on investments that are not, and will not, be making them any money any time soon.
He is labeling the $90 million spent on Batgirl as a complete loss rather than a business expense. By categorizing it this way, the movie can never be released again in any form.
