The Story Was Too Good To Be True - Спорт
Bro really had to face three of the greatest LWs ever for the belt ☠️
Think about it though… it’s a belt that has only really been highly competed for since BJ. And undisputed has changed hands 10 times in nearly as many years. Your comment was a good one it made me actually think about is it even possible to say who the greatest is? You made me realize Dustin is really the only one spanning the entire division at a high level. Maybe I’m just older and appreciate their era a bit more but I consider Frankie and BJ in their prime very high up there.
And while Dustin didn’t fight those guys at their best, he did still go to war with them. But I think it’s odd how ppl so quickly count out past era fighters. I rarely Khabib - I really do. But I also recognize he had a VERY narrow window of top guys he fought. Like actually consider RDA is our only benchmark.
ppl give Charles sht for his losses but I frankly consider his resume the most complete in terms of experience. He fought a broader range of that past era not too far beyond their prime. I struggle to justify holding that against Charles. Hell, if anything I suppose I’m arguing Dustin has every right to be rated up there among the best . Of course this matters what your criteria is. Just flat out wins? You NEED a belt? Why? No one has defended more than a pair of times until Islam. I guess in a way this question is based in a defense of Dustin which wasn’t my plan haha thanks for helping me work that out. But I find it interesting anecdotally that both Charles and Dustin lost to an icon of the past era in Cub.
I mean do Khabib and Islam really beat Pettis of 2012? Easily? I just rewatched 164 and same goes to benson during his heater. We see their losses but I attribute much of that to if you consider they made CONSIDERABLY less money. Today’s fighters can fight a little less and certainly not as long. Costa for instance who isn’t ranked high and has recent losses with a similar number of fights as Benson by the time he fought Pettis at 164 and costa made 5x more with bensons pay officially reported (as all events were at the time) at $110,000. And even that was a cherry picked example of a guy making a lot back then. Point is, you rack up losses quick being forced to fight so long. We don’t have to speculate if Khabib stuck around and had to fight the new crop how that would go bc that’s unfair to him. But others didn’t have the luxury of being on $600k show win $. Also doesn’t mean they’d retire or take fewer risks but I do think that’s relevant.
isn’t it interesting how Khabib is the only one who hasn’t fought 2/3 of the presumed greats from your comment? I’m not making a point. I genuinely think that’s interesting which touches on your initial comment and why I found it concise yet actually there’s some meat to this idea. I’ll stress again I rate Khabib - but I’m noticing I struggle to so casually toss Khabib there. A lot of this has to do with timing as you mentioned. I mean Dustin crammed 3 title fights against those 3 in less than 5 years. But his whole resume reveals a wide range of guys he fought included these top 3. He did beat max not once but twice. And we never got Khabib vs a prime Tony which he was on his heater atleast at their 1st fight scheduling. We never got Khabib charles and would never get Khabib Islam. It’s a genuine thought experiment though I’m not actually looking for an answer: would Khabib have sustained that or begun to lose ? His aura is due to him not losing. But he only had a dozen ufc fights. Nothing to scoff at but Frankie had twice as many. Benson even had a few more and even still fought a different Nurmagomedov in khabibs undefeated cousin just a year ago which amplifies my point around fighters potentially diluting their legacy sticking around. The other side of that coin being guys like Dustin actually got a piece of them. That counts for something and I’d say one could argue that being considered “great” one element that should carry a degree of weight is how wide of competition did you face? In that front, even with losses as all solid fighters do, Dustin has seen nearly everything def not THE top guy . But there or thereabouts. Just my dumb opinion . Sorry for the novel but you sparked a great debate in my own head.
Im sorry that i didnt read it all but yeah man… islam and kabib most likely beat Petis…
The biggest thing about today is the non-negotiable “mma” part. Dustin with these guys because he’s a way better grappler than given credit for.
You need to be a complete fighter to be a champion, especially a reigning one. Dustin is as close as it gets, he’s just missing some grappling whether it be offense or defense he’s different when he has to deal with grabs (he and 98% of fighter are, or vice versa)
An example would be Dustin vs. Justin. More times than not Justin wins because he has more options. Justin loses to Khabib or Islam for the same reason Dustin loses to him
As history shows though, it can go either way. Just have to put it all together when it counts.
if he has same wrestling skills when he fought makhachev, he can beat oliveira
shout out to gamrot who work on dustin wrestling
@@CYMotorsportCharles was still a can back then that’s why and why would khabib fight islam? He did beat all the top 3 of his era which were Connor Justin and Dustin
No shame losing to 3 champions who are all top 10 all time grapplers, that divison is a shark tank of grappler phenoms.
It is still a shame he really had hus best chance against Charles and fought like a bum
@@goat7728he was piecing up Charles what you mean, once Charles got to grappling it was over with
@Caiden1400 When Charles was climbing on his back he had enough time to escape it Charles was on his back for like 5 seconds before he hold his neck and then when Dustin dropped Charles he got a chance to whoop him bad in the ground but then again missed it by being afraid to go the ground
Charles was getting his ass kicked before an illegal glove-grab. I love the guy, but he did Dustin dirty with that.
@@goat7728Random people on the internet saying what a top 5 fighter could've or should've did will never not be hilarious. 😂
Dustin showed up and showed out not even makhachev knew now hard this fight would turn out..
Dustin can thank the staff infection for giving him a better chance in the fight
He had staph and still got outboxed
People making it seem that Islam was easy for Dustin...he literally had staph he barely looked like himself
Lmao Islam stans are so mad they're making excuses for the person that won. 😂. Its not enough for them that hes legitimately the #1 P4P fighter. They can't accept the fact that he's human and that he bled. Dagestani fans are still the most toxic fans in all of MMA.
@@Cilent__Alex Pereira is the true P4P
This type of quality with this consistency. You're insane
And that's why I'm subscribed!
I can only imagine the amount of immense pressure on Islam because of his relation to a Khabib and Khabib s legacy

Islam had the WHOLE CROWD against him and a LEG INFECTION ....and he STILL WON !!! What a Legend !!! King Islam Makhachev !!! ❤
With Staph, blind as a bat, pale as a ghost, weak as a cardboard. Islam Makhachev, out boxed and finished the grittiest Lightweight ever.. Amazing fight from both warriors.
Edit : I forgot to add that Islam went gurrero mode too
Btw, how did you know I was quoting Flukas?🤨
Right people don’t want to talk about how Islam was fighting a staph infection during his training camp

Flukas Glazey Fanboy. But you’re correct.
This channel is so dope. His commentary adds a lot
Dustin is a veteran💎💎
But Islam is an elite❤❤
Dustin Poirier fought the most Dominant, the most Submission & the most Complete LW Champion ever. No shame in that.
The only losers were the people who couldn't enjoy that fight because they idolize another man
Facts. I like both fighters so kinda felt both emotions.
But even then, as a fan of the sport, just enjoy watching the best of the best fight it out
Im an islam fan but i dont hate dustin and sure i was rooting for islam but i don’t think anyone hates dustin he fought some of the best lightweights in his career
agreed, i'm an islam fan but i think dustin is a pretty cool dude and a great fighter. anyone that snaps a bone of mcgregor is a friend of mine!

islam keeps breaking streaks, mma fans' hearts, and he's about to start breaking records.
He keeps breaking curses
awesome content, but its crazy an innocent guy like islam is the villain always... honestly he's playing that role great.
Yeah it's so ironic. He is one of the sweetest, innocent human being I've seen and yet portrayed as the villian.

@@LILREMAlNSand that is enough to paint him as a villain?
Man a lot of you got your logic askew.
Plenty other reigning champions who fight people's favorite, none of them were painted nearly as vitriolic as Makhachev. If anything, fans always shown respect towards the champ and the challenger, equally...
Why can't Makhachev receive the same treatment?
People acting as if he pillaged their village and burned their crops.
@@LILREMAlNS But why hate him for besting the best. I'd say that should come with a tint of reverence, don't you think?
@@hellblazer-_- Everybody knows why. Some people are just playing dumb.
He's a wrestling-based fighter, he's from russia, he's daguestani, he's part of "Team Khabib", he's muslim, and his name is "Islam". That's just the worst combination ever when you want to get some fans on your side.
Most people can't relate to him because of where he's from and because of his background.
All his next opponents will become fan favorites as soon as Islam's next fight will be announced. Even Arman Tsarukyan.
Islam reminded you that life isn't a fairy tale
Holy smooth ad placement Batman!!
Who else was rooting for Makhachev 🙌

6:09 this moment was cold af
Dude, NO one was expecting the ending of this fight. Though flawed, possibly the cleanest Tony Ferguson d’arce choke finish we’ve seen in a long time
It's so funny this fight became only about dustin and dustin alone, his story his narrative, no one is acknowledging that islam just defeated another lightweight legend of the sport, performed with as much heart as his opponent and got the job done. Islam a man of extreme discipline who got doubted throughout his career never got the credit he deserved. You all will miss him when is he gone. Same like khabib .
people focused on dustins story of this fight because its way more emotional, way more interesting and captivating. who wants to watch a prodigy win a fight when there facing someone that there strength is the other person weakness. your just watching someone beat someone who you have a significant advantage and you're one of the greatest to ever do it.
everyone loves a underdog, and watching someone try to slay down a giant when u do they have a slim chance but thee is still a chance. is way more satisfying when they pull it off and way more emotional when they lose. this fight was more than the fighters acomplishments
🥺🥺🥺
This fella's storytelling technique is outstanding
The days of one dimensional boxers with below grappling, wrestling, and clinch work winning the title is most likely over as long as a Dagestani holds the title. Dustin just kept running into superior all time greats.
Western fighters need to start being well rounded. Its MMA, a takedown should always be a threat. Cant wait to see Usman come to the UFC and take the lightweight title with some of the best kicks in the game, though people will still complain because he is Dagestani.

Makhachev finished dustin with staph infection
Serious questing because genuinely I don’t know, how does staph effect the fighter ?
@@fugazi8715from what I know since it's a contagious infection, a fighter can only be cleared to fight if they're taking sufficient antibiotics, but this treatment has a big effect on their strength and cardio

The real fairy tail is about a Man from a far village raised to be Honorable, God fearing, Family man and humble.
He came to the richest country in the world to build a legacy with his small group of brothers.
- He was fighting in the enemy's territory with a hostile crowd booing him all the week.
- He had a bad staph infection.
- He was fighting against a dangerous experienced veteran that had nothing to lose and everything to win.
- He knew that the judges would be on the other side.
- The organisation doesn't want him to be the P4P N 1.
With all those adversities he managed to secure a brilliant win in what he expressed his mental toughness/skills/tactics/patience.
That's a story that is so good that it became true.
Islam didn't like that Dustin said MF, for Dustin it was a figure of speech and to hype up the fight and i do believe there was no ill intended, Dustin is a good guy. But some people respect and love their moms so much that its very insulting when someone says that word. A lot of people don't like it when their loved ones are being insulted and don't blame them.

Sad but true.
I don't think it is like that, it is just that he has fought 3 fan favourites: olivera, volk and dp in his last 4 fights. Against arman most of the fan base would probably be on his side.

Great story but gotta mention the Oliviera fight too! Dustin earned that shot.
I believe we'll see Dustin in the octagon again. Not fighting for gold, but still, I can see him and Gaethje settling the rivalry once and forever.
This fight kinda was a beautiful end to Dustin’s career as he didn’t win but went to war from start to finish which is what he should always be remembered for
He doesn't need an undisputed title, absolute fkn legend of the sport either way
If he wouldve pulled that off it wouldve been a movie.

Dustin was a champ imo. I'll briefly explain why, when Khabib retired no one was LW champion. You had Conor who had only lost to Khabib at LW.Then Dustin who had lost to Khabib, but rebounded in the Hooker fight. Just about the two top guys you could put together in a fight that should've been for the vacant belt and Poirier won. He could've been Champ if Dana officially made that a title fight.
LETS GOOO
I think Dustin should fight Max or fight maybe 165 and imagine him winning the first 165 class so he can get his fairytale ending
He may have never held the belt but he was interim CHAMP which in my book counts as him being a champ.

Belt will stay in dagestan for some
The best thing for Dustin was beating Conor twice, when he first lost to him it was painful for him, but 2x revenge was sweet, losing to khabib was depressing but at least he came to terms khabib was a goat, and no shame in losing to him. And finally islam.... All I can say is take a bow son you fought with a broken nose ACL gone another legend and at least you went tout on you're shield.
