    Bro really had to face three of the greatest LWs ever for the belt ☠️

    • @CYMotorsport
      @CYMotorsport 23 дні тому +14

      Think about it though… it’s a belt that has only really been highly competed for since BJ. And undisputed has changed hands 10 times in nearly as many years. Your comment was a good one it made me actually think about is it even possible to say who the greatest is? You made me realize Dustin is really the only one spanning the entire division at a high level. Maybe I’m just older and appreciate their era a bit more but I consider Frankie and BJ in their prime very high up there.
      And while Dustin didn’t fight those guys at their best, he did still go to war with them. But I think it’s odd how ppl so quickly count out past era fighters. I rarely Khabib - I really do. But I also recognize he had a VERY narrow window of top guys he fought. Like actually consider RDA is our only benchmark.
      ppl give Charles sht for his losses but I frankly consider his resume the most complete in terms of experience. He fought a broader range of that past era not too far beyond their prime. I struggle to justify holding that against Charles. Hell, if anything I suppose I’m arguing Dustin has every right to be rated up there among the best . Of course this matters what your criteria is. Just flat out wins? You NEED a belt? Why? No one has defended more than a pair of times until Islam. I guess in a way this question is based in a defense of Dustin which wasn’t my plan haha thanks for helping me work that out. But I find it interesting anecdotally that both Charles and Dustin lost to an icon of the past era in Cub.
      I mean do Khabib and Islam really beat Pettis of 2012? Easily? I just rewatched 164 and same goes to benson during his heater. We see their losses but I attribute much of that to if you consider they made CONSIDERABLY less money. Today’s fighters can fight a little less and certainly not as long. Costa for instance who isn’t ranked high and has recent losses with a similar number of fights as Benson by the time he fought Pettis at 164 and costa made 5x more with bensons pay officially reported (as all events were at the time) at $110,000. And even that was a cherry picked example of a guy making a lot back then. Point is, you rack up losses quick being forced to fight so long. We don’t have to speculate if Khabib stuck around and had to fight the new crop how that would go bc that’s unfair to him. But others didn’t have the luxury of being on $600k show win $. Also doesn’t mean they’d retire or take fewer risks but I do think that’s relevant.
      isn’t it interesting how Khabib is the only one who hasn’t fought 2/3 of the presumed greats from your comment? I’m not making a point. I genuinely think that’s interesting which touches on your initial comment and why I found it concise yet actually there’s some meat to this idea. I’ll stress again I rate Khabib - but I’m noticing I struggle to so casually toss Khabib there. A lot of this has to do with timing as you mentioned. I mean Dustin crammed 3 title fights against those 3 in less than 5 years. But his whole resume reveals a wide range of guys he fought included these top 3. He did beat max not once but twice. And we never got Khabib vs a prime Tony which he was on his heater atleast at their 1st fight scheduling. We never got Khabib charles and would never get Khabib Islam. It’s a genuine thought experiment though I’m not actually looking for an answer: would Khabib have sustained that or begun to lose ? His aura is due to him not losing. But he only had a dozen ufc fights. Nothing to scoff at but Frankie had twice as many. Benson even had a few more and even still fought a different Nurmagomedov in khabibs undefeated cousin just a year ago which amplifies my point around fighters potentially diluting their legacy sticking around. The other side of that coin being guys like Dustin actually got a piece of them. That counts for something and I’d say one could argue that being considered “great” one element that should carry a degree of weight is how wide of competition did you face? In that front, even with losses as all solid fighters do, Dustin has seen nearly everything def not THE top guy . But there or thereabouts. Just my dumb opinion . Sorry for the novel but you sparked a great debate in my own head.

      Im sorry that i didnt read it all but yeah man… islam and kabib most likely beat Petis…
      The biggest thing about today is the non-negotiable “mma” part. Dustin with these guys because he’s a way better grappler than given credit for.
      You need to be a complete fighter to be a champion, especially a reigning one. Dustin is as close as it gets, he’s just missing some grappling whether it be offense or defense he’s different when he has to deal with grabs (he and 98% of fighter are, or vice versa)

    • @WcDame
      @WcDame 22 дні тому +2

      An example would be Dustin vs. Justin. More times than not Justin wins because he has more options. Justin loses to Khabib or Islam for the same reason Dustin loses to him
      As history shows though, it can go either way. Just have to put it all together when it counts.

    The real fairy tail is about a Man from a far village raised to be Honorable, God fearing, Family man and humble.
    He came to the richest country in the world to build a legacy with his small group of brothers.
    - He was fighting in the enemy's territory with a hostile crowd booing him all the week.
    - He had a bad staph infection.
    - He was fighting against a dangerous experienced veteran that had nothing to lose and everything to win.
    - He knew that the judges would be on the other side.
    - The organisation doesn't want him to be the P4P N 1.
    With all those adversities he managed to secure a brilliant win in what he expressed his mental toughness/skills/tactics/patience.
    That's a story that is so good that it became true.

    Islam didn't like that Dustin said MF, for Dustin it was a figure of speech and to hype up the fight and i do believe there was no ill intended, Dustin is a good guy. But some people respect and love their moms so much that its very insulting when someone says that word. A lot of people don't like it when their loved ones are being insulted and don't blame them.

    Dustin was a champ imo. I'll briefly explain why, when Khabib retired no one was LW champion. You had Conor who had only lost to Khabib at LW.Then Dustin who had lost to Khabib, but rebounded in the Hooker fight. Just about the two top guys you could put together in a fight that should've been for the vacant belt and Poirier won. He could've been Champ if Dana officially made that a title fight.

    The best thing for Dustin was beating Conor twice, when he first lost to him it was painful for him, but 2x revenge was sweet, losing to khabib was depressing but at least he came to terms khabib was a goat, and no shame in losing to him. And finally islam.... All I can say is take a bow son you fought with a broken nose ACL gone another legend and at least you went tout on you're shield.
