Luke my friend I have been watching your videos for 2-3 years now, I know you do not rip people off I am 76 years old and what you charged this gentleman was very fair price you threw the toilet in for nothing. Being a senior myself I think you’re a breath of fresh air. You certainly have never come across as a rip off merchant, far from it. I think one of the biggest problems is that customers just don’t appreciate the cost of parts for completing these jobs. Keep up the good work and ignore the trolls…..

Don't ever justify your charges on any open media. You charged your fee and the customer is happy. That's all that matters. Any muppet can comment. If you were to work out proper costs for most jobs you would never work. If you hired a taxi from your house to collect the parts to the job then home? Every screw, plug etc? Silicone, wipes,rags Dustsheets power tool wear and tear clothing insurance the list is endless. Most trades people are straight as a die.
Any self employed tradesperson is entitled to charge what they think is fair. If the customer is happy with the price then that is all that matters. I have many of my elderly customers that tend to offer me more than i charge them which says a lot. £180 quid to supply and fit a shower seems very reasonable to me. Im sure around here the going rate is £80 per hour, so for the 1st hour whether the Job takes 5 mins or 55 mins, its the same price. 👍
Come across the flush pipe problem every time i fit a raised height toilet. You need to cut the flush pipe up to its minimum height to get them to fit.
One company based not far from me in brighton charges £45 to come out and do an inspection and then tell them what the costs are going to be. For a new siphon CC kit & donut no new fill valve , wants to charge £300 quid , I normally charge about £170 Inc parts . That's a shocking price I think. As for yours I think you did am amazing job and you always come across genuine to me. You can't please some people . Keep doing what you're doing fella , could be worse you could be Mmplumber 🤣🤣

Those viva hideaway are great my only gripe with them is they tend to really sweat alot in the winter when it's warm in the bathroom and the incoming main is really cold. What I tend to do is wrap some bubble wrap around it . Helps a bit! BTW check out a company called plumbinbits I use them for fillvalves flushvalves etc really cheap about £6/7 cheaper than screwies or city . Hiws the back holding up?
In order to make the same amount of money as an employee with equivalent skills you would need to be charging at least £350 a day as a self employed person. People who have never worked for themselves don't understand all the costs involved in running your own business. You are much too cheap.
You don't have to be free or cheap just because you're on social media. This is a business. I treat everyone the same price wise. £120 to fit a triton T80 or I'm not interested as I fit fit kitchen taps for £80. Any less and I can't be bothered as could go sit on my arse all day like I used to when I had an office job. No more awkward jobs resulting in wear and tear on the joints over time, and no risk of sepsis getting dirt in a cut like a friend did and almost died. You are way too cheap. Time to up your prices mate. I ought to sub contract you and stay in bed. LOL.
I’ve never been able to put the cone in the pan first, I’ve always found it best to put the cone on the flush pipe then push it in, I’ve had so many issues trying it the other way.

Very fair prices in my opinion. Take into account all your fixed overheads and then add on the cost of parts & labour (20% of it goes to our caring government!). I think the criticism is totally unfair!

The issue is: Are you looking after the customer or your social media presence? The amount of jobs I do that are OAPs have a big fcuk off 5+ bedroom house, with only 2 in it, 1 living, 1 haunting it. They still moan about Winter payments because that money would've fed their swinging activities at the weekend. Your rate is your rate. Never lower it. As you say, it's your business and income. Hi Ive worked for alot of oaps( i am one myself now) and alot who live in nice properties and have new cars etc, expect a discount and i bet they never worked cheap for anybody. I think your prices are reasonable in fact maybe a bit to low. We hear all the time about tradies ripping off customers but alot of the time its the other way around. Perfectly fair price and both options of fix and replacement that client had the choice. I think too many people don’t realise the time we spend running around for materials / travel trying to find certain parts and paperwork all involved in the job. Also customer wouldn’t come back if they thought they had been ripped off or not happy with the workmanship. Keep doing a good job and keep charging or you will no longer have a company

I charge £95 for a toilet repair. Some i am in 10 minutes and some I am in for 2 hours. It’s luck of the draw. Electric shower is on point as i charge £100 to fit a replacement shower
hello mate, definately not a rip off, dave the plumber might be able to charge £50 when he swings by after work or at the weekend, if he bothers to turn up at all, you are running a business, do not be ashamed to make a profit, thats why you go into business on your own, you take the rough with the smooth, busy times and quiet times but if you are available to customers then you are providing a service and entitled to charge for it. I charge more per hour than you, but I am there available when my customers need me, same day, next day. As for materials, you should be charging 20% more than whatever you get it for to cover any faults or call backs due to faulty materials, you have to cover those possibilities otherwise you'll be out of pocket again but the bottom line is, you know if you are providing a good service or not, from what I can see you are doing a decent job so ignore the critics, I learnt a long time ago that the easiest thing anyone can do is criticise your work, take it with a pinch of salt

£180 is the lower end I’d say, I’m in Cambridge so our prices are higher but a shower replacement is about £220ish.

Come across the flush pipe problem every time i fit a raised height toilet. You need to cut the flush pipe up to its minimum height to get them to fit.
I don’t think I could cut much higher without tilting the cistern, however I will double check next time 👍

My prices always align with your prices, I've also commented on your previous videos where you didn't mention your prices and even then it was very similar to what most of us charge. The issue is: Are you looking after the customer or your social media presence? The amount of jobs I do that are OAPs have a big fcuk off 5+ bedroom house, with only 2 in it, 1 living, 1 haunting it. They still moan about Winter payments because that money would've fed their swinging activities at the weekend. Your rate is your rate. Never lower it. As you say, it's your business and income. F the haters man.

Seriously, Luke, some people. Whoever is entitled to their opinion, but it came like a throw to the face. I don't feel you're a rip-off merchant, and then to have it thrown at you, it's annoying. But you will get people behaving in several, certain ways, no matter how you are. The proverbial slap to the face.
Firstly, your rates sounded fine with me, and they are your rates. The OAP had his son there, as long as they knew of the options and were in agreement to whether they want it done or not, what else is there to it??! People talk about rip-offs, if you don't like the price, you're not obliged to take it up. 2nd/3rd opinion if you want, can shop around.
This guy, Josh, going on like you held someone up at knifepoint. 5mins to change a valve, has he regularly changed a valve, regardless which one and where?? You, and probably others here, like myself, know it can be 5mins or 5 hrs. The days when you'd look and say with confidence how long are few and far. Lord knows I've been there, still going there.
5mins and £10 cost? Yeah, that would be very nice, in an ideal world, for customers, but its not. As you said, coming and going, your time and knowledge, just rounded off to £10?? Sorry, but 🤨🤨 Let Josh go round and replace valves and bits for £10, that's his business. At least a few had your back there, and rightfully so.
As for the toilet job.....👍👍. Job done (again), and wasn't even full cost. Let Josh come tell how you rip off OAPs'....and it was a good deed, regardless. You pay much attention to certain people, certain comments, you'd be banging your head EVERY DAY. No time for that, respond professionally and done with. Some of these people need to be in the shoes of others before they comment.

Ive worked for alot of oaps( i am one myself now) and alot who live in nice properties and have new cars etc, expect a discount and i bet they never worked cheap for anybody. I think your prices are reasonable in fact maybe a bit to low. We hear all the time about tradies ripping off customers but alot of the time its the other way around. People who never worked for themselves have no idea how much it costs to run your business.

Perfectly fair price and both options of fix and replacement that client had the choice. I think too many people don’t realise the time we spend running around for materials / travel trying to find certain parts and paperwork all involved in the job. Also customer wouldn’t come back if they thought they had been ripped off or not happy with the workmanship. Keep doing a good job and keep charging or you will no longer have a company

The shower imo I’d have just changed and I’d have charged a little more so did you rip them off not at all the problem with some of these people that comment is they are doing jobs for 20 pounds and think the likes of us changing 80/90/100 pounds are ripping people off no not at all we are doing a job that some people can’t do providing a service

I charge £95 for a toilet repair. Some i am in 10 minutes and some I am in for 2 hours. It’s luck of the draw. Electric shower is on point as i charge £100 to fit a replacement shower
What type of flush plate did you use to cover the bigger hole?

hello mate, definately not a rip off, dave the plumber might be able to charge £50 when he swings by after work or at the weekend, if he bothers to turn up at all, you are running a business, do not be ashamed to make a profit, thats why you go into business on your own, you take the rough with the smooth, busy times and quiet times but if you are available to customers then you are providing a service and entitled to charge for it. I charge more per hour than you, but I am there available when my customers need me, same day, next day. As for materials, you should be charging 20% more than whatever you get it for to cover any faults or call backs due to faulty materials, you have to cover those possibilities otherwise you'll be out of pocket again but the bottom line is, you know if you are providing a good service or not, from what I can see you are doing a decent job so ignore the critics, I learnt a long time ago that the easiest thing anyone can do is criticise your work, take it with a pinch of salt
