Robert, if you ever want to try playing, I'd be happy to send you a few discs from my stash. You would love it. All you really need to do is find a short course in your area and go out with a couple or three discs and give it a try. Most courses are in public parks, school yards, church properties, etc, and almost always free to play. Some courses play in mostly open fields with few trees, others play through the woods, and some are a mix of both. Great way to get outside and exercise on the cheap!
@@kutlasshighproof Right on, I'll see what I can throw together for ya as far as a fairway driver, midrange, and putter. All you'll need is a whiskey flask and one of your cigars!🤣
I just tried it and it works! I put just a small amount of water in the dog bowl and boiled it. Then placed it in a pan of water with ice. It immediately sucked the Destroyer so far down that I had to pry it out with a knife. No time-lapse needed! Wow. I'm going to throw it today.
@@WhiskeyBasket: A while back I ordered a Hades online that arrived with a puddle-top. I cannot throw it as it is completely over-stable. I asked for an exchange, but the vendor would not give me another disc. Today I'm going to use this technique to put a dome on this disc that matches that of other Hades that I have. I don't even care if it gets ruined.
@@WhiskeyBasket It flew great, but still would not turn right at all for me. I left it laying on the ground. A kid came over to me and asked if that was my disc. I told him to throw it, and he said he already threw it and it crushes. He loved the dome on it, so I told him to keep it. What a great Superdome day.
WTF?! You play too?! Dude, it's uncanny how many of us in the Whiskeytube are into disc golf! Adam, Victor, Troy and Laura, Jason (Washington Whiskey), Wade from Bourbon Haul, and we've got RJ and Kutlass wanting to get out and play too. Is there a better hobby combo than bourbon and disc golf? I think not!😁🥃✌️
Great video! I tried something similar, filling a disc with boiling water, then setting a weighted bowl on top to get the effect. Got mega dome, but it went away even after I cooled it in the fridge. Do you find that the discs hold their dome well with this method?
What this does to the grip of star plastic? A really tacky feeling would be great but my intuition says that it must be hardening thus making it more slick
I've made discs less domey on the hob, but I have a few I'd like to be a bit more domey. Is there a way to do this process but control the amount of dome? I only really want about 5mm. (I have some metal flake katanas and the domey ones seem to fly much more nicely than the flat ones)
Yeah, I'd say if you were to just pull the disc off the bowl when you first start to see it pulling down, that would be the way to make a flat disc into a normal domey disc. Just be aware, you'd obviously want to wear thick ovens mitts, safety glasses, and whatever other safety measures to protect yourself from being scalded. This is boiling or near-boiling water we're dealing with, after all. Good luck and let me know how it goes!
@@WhiskeyBasketthanks for the reply. luckily I'm a grown up (kind of) so not worried about hot water. My guess would've been that if it domed a bit and then you pull it off it would head back to its original shape a bit. guess the way to go is to do an experiment or two on some crap old discs
Glide goes way up, it flies way more understable, but still dumps out hard on the end of the flight. You pretty much have to throw on a hyzer angle and let it flip up and glide. You can get some easy distance from them. Just fun as heck to throw! Oh, watch the video I linked to in the description, he throws the one I sent him, along with an unmodified Destroyer for comparison!😁
So in comparison to how it flew before you added the dome. How does it fly now? Thar would.be a good video too. Throw a disc a fee times, put a dome in it and then throw it a few more times to see what happens.
I tried this twice with no luck. I am thinking maybe it’s because I didn’t use a thing metal bowl to boil the water. I used a metal sauce pan and I don’t think the water is getting to a high enough rapid boil. I did place the pan and disc in the fridge for the cold temp. Outside isn’t sold cold here in So Cal hahaha
I have a pro beast that came naturally from the factory this domified. Thing forever sits on the shelf as its SO unpredictable, except for field days where i feel obligated to bring it out somdtimes and give it another opportunity. Max distance with any other disc 300 feet? Welp its either going 350 or 200 depending on the wind. You want a hyzer? Better put it on 20% and pray their isnt a crosswind. You want to anny it? SEE YA LATER BIG GUY
LMAO! Yeah, these are definitely not coming back on an anny. Had a brand new Halo Wraith I did this to, and lost it quickly after griplocking it on a downhill throw. It disappeared into some woods at the bottom of a valley, and I never found it. Believe it or not, the disc that became the flippiest so far with this mod, was a Champion Colossus. That was a disc I'd found with no name on it, and the first disc to which I did this modification. It was actually pretty useful for throwing high turnovers around tight doglegs; never had to worry about it stalling out and fading the wrong way. Right now I've got that light blue Ricky Destroyer in my bag. It likes a flat release. I can't put more than 10-15deg hyzer on it or else it just stays on hyzer and dumps out. On flat, though, she just goes straight and far, like a midrange on steroids.😁
That would just depend on the disc being able to form a seal against the bowl. As long as you can get a seal to form, it wouldn't matter which kind of bowl or disc you use, or whether the disc is upside down or right side up.
It will be flippier, but the big dome just gives it an insane amount of glide. So while it probably doesn't have the control and predictability of a normal disc, it can fly pretty far if you get ahold of it at the correct angle. Just playing around with it, I've also found it's good for short, straight throws, kind of like a midrange.
Super fun !!!! Ill definitely do this to a time lapse lol
lmk how that works fr
After some experimenting i figured out if you leave the disc on for 2 minutes then take it off it creates a very nice and bag able dome
That's some mighty fine super dome there
Stale Cracker reference got me subbed bro. When my interests overlap I get HYPE

No doubt about it! Pretty sure this stretches the flight plate a bit, so it's not going back to normal.

I had a blizzard destroyer do that sitting ontop of a cabinet in my garage and it was just as domey as those

This a dumb question by why do we want a disc to be that domey? Is it flippier for slow arms or something?
It will be flippier, but the big dome just gives it an insane amount of glide. How would that fly? 😂😂 I bet it dunks hard left super overstable.
It still dumps hard on the fade portion, but it is definitely flippier on the high speed portion!
I just threw mine and it is definitely more understable with the superdome.
