@@nativeson1559To be fair to the Pope, it was very recently a Rome-dialect only word, and he doesn't speak Italian too well as a first gen immigrant, and his parents' Italian spoken at home must be pretty outdated. “a bundle of sticks or twigs bound together as fuel.” The same word is used as a slur towards homosexuals. That’s the word he used. Or you could just look up news about the Pope because there are now a ton of articles about what he said.

The Pope did not say to exclude gays just because they are gay. Instead, he said that if you cannot control yourself and behave, you probably should not pursue priesthood.
So many gays are just too "fabulous", it does not give an impression of self-restraint and fortitude which we all look for in a moral leader.

Being Gay is not sinful in itself. if the gay “act” on their gay attraction that is the act of sinning. It’s their cross to bare. Even a heterosexual sins if outside the sanctity of marriage.

That’s all true but I can see the Pope’s point about not allowing gay men in the seminary. Imagine the burden even for a well intentioned gay man the rest of his life living in close quarters with other men. It be like asking a young heterosexual seminarian to live with young college aged women while trying to live a life of celibacy. It’s an unreasonable burden to place on someone.

We need to make them feel welcome to come. Not welcome in doing their sin, but we want to make sure homosexuals understand the Catholic Church doesn’t reject them, we want them to come and be healed. So the Pope did the right thing, he kept his order to keep homosexuals out of the seminary, but wants to make sure that homosexuals understand they’re welcome as is any other sinner who wants to learn more about the Catholic faith.

Yes! When I read only the title here I knew that it was our prayers for him and his discernment being answered. Praise be to Jesus Christ! All of us like Father Mark, have to leave an opening, ie room for people to change. Prayers for pope Francis’ protection of body mind and soul. It may also interest you to know that research has shown that many of the abusers of boys were NOT gay but rather that abusing clerics were “situational generalists” victimizing whoever they had access to and trust with. Priests, historically, had easy and regular access to boys more so than girls (e.g., altar servers, all-boy schools, and sports teams). Thus, while they would have preferred girls, boys were more readily available to them.

Vatican should have never backpedaled on his statement. Those were his words, he knew exactly what he was saying. Finally we thought he was being firm on something. Let's hope that Francis has had a true conversion. Typically a leopard doesn't change his spots, but anything is possible with God.
I have sincere doubts about Ramirez.
No he will never convert to another religion. He will remain Catholic because he has been a very good Pope always following God's word.

Certainly a confused message from Bergoglio. One day calling gays a derogatory word, then the next day apologizing in a statement released by the Vatican. This shouldn't be surprising as so many of his statements have no meaning, double meanings, mixed meanings and clear meanings, followed up by statements of regret or no clarification at all. Still, the only one ever to bring a false idol, Pachamama, into St. Peters. Nothing Bergoglio says should be of surprise as, in the end, he says everything and nothing. Are you confused by him? I gave the pope a pass on word usage here because 60 years ago it wasn't thought of as a slur, at least around me. Maybe he was saying that one shouldn't become a priest to escape his homosexuality. For example, if a man is being ridiculed or excluded by his family and he thinks that becoming a priest will help him gain back their love and conquer the desire. One should become a priest or brother because he loves Jesus.
When you have an entire sexual culture that promotes promiscuity and the bad kind of pride, it only makes sense that you deny those of that culture into the priesthood. Imagine if seminaries allowed porn actors to be seminarians and still identify as that… it’s the same problem. Or perhaps a person who has attractions to children sexually and still identifies as so and goes to seminary… it’s the same problem.

With all due respect to the pope, he was raised in an environment that was not what were used to. Rather opposite. Yes he’s Catholic but he’s also old. So am I. I do think that he trusts his advisers who aren’t always trust worthy. We have to pray. Yes we do but we can’t listen to people. We have to listen to God I would suggest reading the Bible and not worrying about every single thing that man says. Pray for him.

I am at the point where I do not believe Francis has the faith to preach it in TRUTH. He wants to please the world and to be loved by the world.
That's on you/ it's your problem but your reference to judgement of his faith is an unsavoury and inappropriate one. You cannot read his mind far less his soul but to actually say whether he does or doesn't have the faith to preach it is absolutely outrageous.

I just feel like if people are going around saying i identify like this ect they are not fit until they repent and come to reason to serve the church in that way. No one is born gay, it’s a temptation that you can’t identity as, you need to take that to confession and ask God to give you the grace to not think about that disordered behaviour anymore and identify as a child of God whos battling against the devil and his wiles and most importantly who’s striving for holiness. The excuse usually given when the Pope says something surprising is that he has been mistranslated, or, here, that since Italian is not his mother tongue, he does not understand it very well. That is not, in fact the case. His parents spoke the Piedmontese dialect at home when he was a child. While not quite Italian as Dante might have written it, he was still brought up speaking Italian. Then, he has lived in Rome now for so long, speaking Italian every day as his main language, that it is unrealistic to suggest that, in using an Italian swear word, derogatory of homosexuals, he did not really understand what he was saying. The fact is, the Pope, who is Bishop of Rome, Primate of All Italy and President of the Italian Bishops’ Conference, was meeting with his fellow Italian Bishops in a situation where he had been assured that their conversation would not be recorded or reported to journalists. He therefore spoke quite frankly. He was not aware that the meeting was being “live streamed” (presumably only intended to be for the benefit of those Bishops who could not attend in person) however, the result was that there is a record of what he said, which he cannot deny. He now says that he did not intend to offend. If you do not intend to offend, you do not use offensive language. As Father Mark has pointed out, all Christians, not only the Clergy, are instructed not to use foul, or offensive, language. If the Pope intended to say that too many men of homosexual tendencies had been admitted to the Clergy, then he could have said that. Indeed, that is the most which he could say and remain faithful to the Word of God. There are uncomfortable reports emanating from the Vatican to the effect that this sort of language, this sort of attitude and this sort of behaviour is an every day occurrence whenever the Pope feels sure that what he has cannot be recorded or reported. At the time he evicted Cardinal Burke from his apartment in Rome and stopped his pension (a pension which he had earned and to which he was legally entitled) he used similar language - describing Cardinal Burke as his enemy and needing to be punished and put in his place. All that Cardinal Burke had done was to draw the Pope’s attention to certain inconsistencies in what he had been saying, by reference to the teaching of the Catholic Church.
