My grandfather worked for Kettenburg during this era, probably worked on this boat! The Kettenburg yard was just a few hundred feet from where you were...
Dude, you are one of the most honest and credible evaluators on the medium. I do not always agree with you, honesty is you hallmark. Keep at it. You do GOOD work.
OMG - a fantastic showing of a dream sailing-vessel. I appreciate the wide angle with sweeps of each item as you describe while still in view. The video flowed very well and presented this exquisite ship at its best. Thanks
I fell in love with this boat the moment I saw it at the dock, and seeing the interior just makes me love it even more. Saying this boat is in good condition is a gross understatement. It's so easy to see it's been extremely well taken care of. This is the kind of boat I would buy without hesitation
Great video. GREAT BOAT Didn't mention the ladder leading through a bulkhead to the fore deck making a second entrance / exit. Also, you guys don't do much on the hulls or tbe keel style.. I was always curious about those in the vids
Definitely a cruiser in design, with a 50' length and only 34' of waterline her speed will be limited but should be fine for cruising. Layout was nice and there's absolutely not denying she's beautiful and extremely well maintained. I really liked that in that forward cabin you could see the chain plates for easy inspection and I'd be willing to bet on the other side inside those lockers it's the same way. A great vessel but not what I'd be looking for or course if it was offered there's no way I'd turn it down...
When I was in my early 20s (1970s) I was touring a yacht harbor in Newport Beach, CA. There I saw a Kettenburg 50 and decided I just had to have one. Never happened (all my boats have been fiberglass), but easy to see why I liked it. This is a fabulous restoration.
Kettenberg built such beautiful wood boats and this was a perfect example of one. Too bad we didn't get to see or even hear about the mechanicals of this big 50 footer! Must have been a fairly large HP motor in order to move it at a decent speed. Did you discover what was behind and under that back decking? Love that little tease about the boat you are building!
Yrs ago I saw a 1906 model classic 10mR with a somewhat similar type coach roof with big windows (more windows than ports, haha). It had been converted from it's original flush deck to a big & bulky coach that really didn't fit the yachts graceful lines. As it was for sale I was tempted to make an offer (given the fair price), but other projects stopped me. Yrs later I saw the same yacht at a wooden boat festival and it had been re-converted to it's original flush deck: ie she had gotten the right new owner. On this Kettenburg it looks like they've scrapped the original nav station and instead mounted a humongous frig/freezer combo. If you alter a boats' design either above and/or below deck, be it an old classic or even a new modern, my feeling is that this should be done in a way so that it's NOT apparent that the change(s) have been made. In this case I would have found room for that extra cold unit elsewhere, kept the nav station and the original "feel". Just sayin ....
Amazing boat ( if your sailing attire is a linen suit and a panama hat ), for those of us in the real world.. pretty to look at, a nightmare to maintain.
I actually sailed Transpac and some Mexican races on one of these back in the day as a teenager It’s not a dream, it’s a Maintenence nightmare fun fact, James Arness (Gunsmoke) owned one named Sea Smoke The only thing weird is your use of the word
Very nice tour. I like the level of detail - just point out the highlights and not explain what everything is for... too much detail is the quickest way to turn off a viewer... (imo)
The style of this boat 'kills' almost any comparable modern boat. How is there almost no variety in the sailboat world? Why are there so few sailboats with great light, visibility, and ventilation THROUGHOUT the boat?
Beautiful but thank god designs have improved. This ol girl gives up over 15 feet between the overall to the usable space. That's a ton of extra money to spend on slips and sails and such just to live with 35 feet. Beautiful but no thanks!
well first off this is not a fully wood boat it has a fiberglass hull and deck yes i can see there is wood on the fiberglass deck and i would guess there is more wood in side of it but its far from being a fully wood boat for the hull and the deck is not wood so stop calling it one. for me when you say a fully wood boat the whole boat is made of wood not fiberglass ok so stop all your crying about what i have said this is what it means to me when i hear someone say a fully wood boat when its not. for every one else may not agree with what i have said thats fine but that is your a opinion not mine.
ok so i was wrong with what i had said about it not being a fully wood boat now that i have put on my glasses and open it up to full screen i can now see it is fully wooden boat like her said it is. i can say when i am wrong so sorry.
Those portlights have proven themselves for 50+ years, I think that is enough testament to how well they do.
My grandfather worked for Kettenburg during this era, probably worked on this boat! The Kettenburg yard was just a few hundred feet from where you were...
Definitely in Bristol fashion. My compliments to the owner/crew. She is beautiful. The brightwork would be a full time job for sure.
She’s a gorgeous sloop, Jordan, and clearly a “unique” design below deck. Love the wood!
This is a very beautiful boat.
Gorgeous boat! Thanks for including it.
Gotta love these beautiful wooden boats👌
Perfect livaboard yacht!

Despite you being tired it is a great video. Very exceptional old boat.

Certainly a beautiful boat!
Kettenburg K-50's are great and it was awesome that there were two at the festival! Great job Jordan!
50 ft with 34 ft water line. Coastal cruiser but nice coastal cruiser. Good video.
The review was fine..love the classic boats
Beautiful boat. Love the layout.
Bro I love that Boat , Thanks for showing Us around
Lovely boat...👍
That is beautiful
I kinda fell in love with kettenburg boats been searching for a good one to pickup
Great video
Wonder what was in the aft cabin. Perhaps a crew cabin? With all those deck prisims, must be more than storage.
Beautiful!
For her size I'll bet it ummz along at a good clip ,
looked fast at the dock 👌
Everything's for sale. Nice tour.
Great video. GREAT BOAT
Didn't mention the ladder leading through a bulkhead to the fore deck making a second entrance / exit.
Also, you guys don't do much on the hulls or tbe keel style..
I was always curious about those in the

Awesome
I would live here as well. Joyfully

Beautiful boat. Would like to have seen the engine compartment, however, overall, the video was very good. Thank You.
Good job

Beautiful boat. I wonder how it sails...
Id rather be going to windward in her then a flat bottomed slamming modern plastic Tupper ware yacht - Horses for courses .
@@billhanna8838 I would love to try it out. The modern sailboats are all similar but I imagine this one is special.

Paul Kettenberg built the first k50 for his personal use to sail the Chanel Islands off southern Calif.
Awesome and beautifully built boat . I assume the aft deck opens for access to the engine bay ?
Very nice !
What was under that aft area with all the prisms? You never said. The raised salon windows were an issue for me, which you did point out.

what is your opinion of Irwin sailboats
You didn't need to do the apology thing. Good video....
What would this Yacht cost if it is for sale
Even with your ass dragging behind you, you Still do a Great boat tour !! Keep 'em coming !
she is very beautiful million dollar boats eat your heart out
I don’t know why you thin this it’s a weird old boat! It’s beautiful. It’s a Kettenburg! Last of the production woodies before fiberglass took over.
Cheers.
What is the engine on this boat ?
What about the aft cabin ?
No aft cabin, it's just storage space
I think I'm in love. Sv Kiwi Lady Opua Bay of islands New Zealand.
What stops blowing rain from getting into those vent "horn things"? anyone?
See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dorade_box
The Daurade box is designed to let water out and air in. It works. Water runs out of an opening and air flows inside the cabin.
I'd be afraid of scratching that beautiful interior woodwork.... to the point of using ONLY soft plastic eating utensils! 🤣
Omggggggg!!!!!!
😘😍😍😍😍
Almost 100k
They are windows, not portlights, in the main salon.
While the boat is magnificent, maintaining a wooden boat is a career for a crew.
A good size all around boat for travel is 40' plus sail boat
No engine?
Lovely lady
❤️
What would be the minimum crew to sail this boat? Looks like a museum piece!
Watch Expedition Evans. They are a young couple sailing a Beneteau 50. Just went through their first hurricane.
You should get a camera with removable lenses, or wider zoom.
A nice wooden boat with an aluminum mast what a crime
Amazing boat ( if your sailing attire is a linen suit and a panama hat ), for those of us in the real world.. pretty to look at, a nightmare to maintain.
Great boat more like a small ship. I do prefer lagoon cats ,more liveabord space no heling in wind.
What is weird about superb beauty and function?
I actually sailed Transpac and some Mexican races on one of these back in the day as a teenager It’s not a dream, it’s a Maintenence nightmare fun fact, James Arness (Gunsmoke) owned one named Sea Smoke The only thing weird is your use of the word
That main sheet rope looked like wet toilet paper, ha.
A dream to sail and live in. But to.maintain a nightmare. For milionaires only🥰
Very nice tour. I like the level of detail - just point out the highlights and not explain what everything is for... too much detail is the quickest way to turn off a viewer... (imo)
Ok, but
what is the _"WEIRD"_ aspect of it?
Why is this boat weird? Because its old? I'd snap it up in a second, if I could afford to buy/maintain it.
Bogart learned on one and had one
Beautiful boat. Don’t make them like that anymore. Today’s boats are ugly compared to this one. Just my own tastes.

"Weird"?
What's weird about it besides you calling it weird?
Not everything is beautiful, the throttle bar is oxidized green and looks like shit.
Nice boat…. Men with balls of steal sail wooden boats!
Lol. 😂 Balls of steel, a fat wallet, and a bunch of free time.
