- This is the biggest, coolest, most interesting, and most exquisite yacht we've toured thus far! Words cannot express how awesome this 1957 91' custom Feadship motor sailor is!
Her name is De Vrouwe Christina, and she's a giant work of art. Built in 1957, and completely refitted and rebuilt in 2017, she now boasts one of the most modern and elegant interiors we've ever seen in a boat of this vintage. Not only did they replace the keel in 2017, they completely redid everything on the exterior and interior which included adding 8mm of steel all around the hull. She's a 95 ton tank now that sails slowly but safely and in extreme comfort for cruising.
Let us know if you want to see more big, awesome boats like this!

Learning the Lines is a channel about us, an average couple in our 20's, with big dreams to be sailing the world by the time we're in our 30's. We're not afraid to jump into anything, put in the work, and learn as we go. We started out with Somnium, an O'day 272, moved onto Freebie, an Endeavour 32, and now are focusing on sailboat tours and working full time as teachers while we save up for our next boat.
Please leave a like and comment if you've enjoyed the video, and subscribe if you haven't already.
These are the types of boats I enjoy seeing.
Truly it’s art!
Wow! Beautiful boat! Thanks!
I really enjoy the "unique" boats on your channel, I never would have seen this boat otherwise. Videos like these are why I enjoy your channel so much. Keep up the great work.
Very true with Jordan knowing a lot of the technical things and Randi is great on design and cosmetic or finish design.
Thank you very much!
I’ll buy this ship right now!
I will dream of this boat.
Well, it would be a bit of a struggle, but I suppose I could live on board this boat.
piano next to the stairs :)
I noticed the French power outlets, I see those same outlets when I am in Vietnam, so does this boat have 230 volts?
In Vietnam we actually use 220v
Looks like a barge and lee boards were used also on Thames barges. Can anyone say how this boat sails blue water passages and heavy seas? Looks like a roller?
Nice video
Good evening from St John Parish, Louisiana 09 Oct 20.
How are y'all faring?
Hope Rules Thanks for asking. With out any traffic problems on I-19 we are about 30 minutes West of the Super Dome in New Orleans. We only had some gusty winds that topped out around 40 MPH, but was mostly in the 20 to 30 MPH range for about a day. No damage at my home. We had light to moderate rain off and on for a couple days. No flooding around us and I did not hear of any around New Orleans.
This vessel recently showed up on one of the Pro Sailing mags pages ..still for sale it has a huge history its crossed the Atlantic and toured the world multiple times and its built and restored by by one of the oldest Dutch builders.
Good to know . I was not sure if it was an ocean going passage making boat or not
@@bobbates7343
Its Dutch and steel ... Its rare to find one thats not ...even if its based on a N..Sea sailing barge.
Information on the origin and history of these type of boats should be part of selling on these type of videos.
this is a Dutch barge boat
the carvings look Indonesian, which was a Dutch colony before WW2
leeboards, mast tabernacle, steel, all typical canal boat features
The garvings look traditionaly Dutch to me, nothing to do with indonesea. I've seen a lot of it on these kinds of boats called; Tjalk. I sailed on them a lot and I could tell you where this type was designed but since most amaricans have little idea of european topography lets not.
Originals of this boat build in iron start around 1900. They still flaot though most are a bit crunchy. Before say 1900 barges were build in wood. Those mostly riside at the bottom of the sea.
These types have been around forever, you can see them in dutch paintings from 17th century.
Steel ones are still yard built for a specific market. The one in de video no dubt is one. The name 'vrouwe (Lady) Christina' sounds very like a traditional Dutch name, perhaps named after the wife of the owner.
Dutch barge owners are mostly very traditional and would never go for the modern yacht look wich they concider garisch.
Very cool, thank you for that.
@@votethebulliesout2956 And you forgot to tell him that Indonesia was a colony till in the 50e and not before WWII.
@@fvanheest1 You are absolutly right. To the Indonesean people the war wasn't over till they gained independance.
This particular boat has an interesting history to its build. It saved Feadship at a time it almost went broke. I forget who, exactly, it was who had her built, but it was basically done to support the yard when they were in need of a sale. I'll try and find more details and post them. She's a real historic beauty, in more ways than one!
Anthony
Thank you very much for details on builders yard. Amazing how one vessel can save a custom vessel builder from going or filing Bankruptcy.
It is a Dutch 'platbodem' flat bottom boat, built in the Netherlands and typical for waters in the Netherlands but still sea worthy. Beautiful boat!
It is a pleasurecraft inspired by Dutch "Tjalks" yes. And for people, who are used to this old fishing and cargo vessels, a lot of the "uncommon" features like a mast, that can be taken down (quite easily) and leebords are quite familiar...
Indeed a typical Dutch working barge from the old days. Somebody poored a lot of money into this, she's a beaut!
NOT Koi fish! That's a traditional style Dolphin carving.
You two do the best walk throughs on the web. It's not like you are trying to sell the boats. You two are so sweet! I hope everything goes well the baby.
Hi guys As a Dutchman i have to tell you this ship is original build as a sailing freight ship for the big lakes and rivers in the Netherlands. the type of ships is called Tjalk and must be build in the early years of the 20th century. You could be searching on google on the type Tjalk then you will see how it was original build.
It reminds me of a James Bond villains boat! LOL!
Only if there’s a secret submarine dock in the bottom of the boat.
That's more like Lex Luthor style :)
And ... Reddington shows up ...
This is a Zeetjalk , a more seaworthy version of the Tjalk (it literally translates to Seatjalk). These ships were used to haul cargo between the Netherlands, Germany and Scandinavia. These were sailed on the Northsea and Baltic sea.
So unlike some of the comments below, these were not canal boats.
As a matter of fact, this Feadship conversion has done 6 Atlantic crossings! Very seaworthy indeed.
@cornskid no I was talking about the type of ship. Just Google "Zeetjalk" and you'll see a whole bunch of similar ships.
If you search for this ship on Google (Vrouwe Christina Feadship) you'll also see a link to the Feadship website, it talks in detail about this ship.
@@DokterRoetker I liked the original built better. Later owners (?) added the pilot house which I don't really care for.
www.feadship.nl/fleet/vrouwe-christina
That is so interesting! Thanks for sharing!
@ no it's not, they use ships with leeboards on shallow seas as well, like the Waddenzee and Zuiderzee, or big lakes in the Netherlands. They would not use the leeboards inside canals, the ships would be towed then by horse.
ua-cam.com/video/NB1QeSro_gI/v-deo.html similar vessel
I was so looking forward to the interior being a beautiful warm continuation of the woodwork in the pilot house...the modern interior was a shock to say the least
Whoa - she's gorgeous! As a kid born in Holland, as soon as I saw the first pan, I immediately thought, "She's Dutch!" They did such a great job with her!
You two captured the unique elegance of this vessel (I have difficulty calling her a boat) perfectly. Yes, it was a departure from your usual tours, but I greatly enjoyed it, and would equally enjoy seeing more floating, functional art. Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
My wife’s grandfather had a 110’ yacht that looked something like this. He had a ranch in Argentina while his home was in Shreveport, LA. She said it had a crew of five and he spent his winters in Naples, Fla enjoying the water around the Fla keys.
Someone has lavished a lot of love in the building of this boat. It has all you could need to roam the oceans and such a classy interior it makes you gasp
Great tour and magnificent vessel. I would like to see more "Special" boats like this. Even though the price range, I'm sure, is beyond most people, it is still fascinating to see what exist in the world. This motor/sailor is a work of art and it was a pleasure to view the tour. Thank you two for the experience.
I'm Dutch so it's nice to see a traditional Dutch boat on this channel.
I preferred the original mahogany on the inside but it's beautiful done.
Love that they kept the Dutch name!
Beautiful, beautiful (I'm a fan of lovely woodwork too!) boat and a great tour (love the banter between you guys), but I have to point out something: you need a wider-angle lens & eventually a gimbal _as well_ 🙂. Please take this as constructive criticism.
I could spend the rest of my life on this boat, and never be bored, or regret leaving land....
I agree... pretty awesome...
idk...I like a good vegetable now and then...
This thing is gorgeous! If I could afford it it would be mine already.
Koi? I believe those are dolphin fish (as in mahi mahi not porpoise).
What, no billiards room. 😅
Those gimbaled tables are probably a bit expensive aha
The table in Lounge with chess built in. WOW never seen that in preview of super size vessels
Such a wonderful built into table. YES sitting in snug harbor playing like you said. Such relaxing game time.
It's not for chess, its checkers ( Jeu de Dames). A little poor, don't you think ?😅
Jordan boarded via the passerelle and not the boarding plank (one cost $50 and the other $7000.00)
I love the way you guys were captivated by this boat, and you portrayed it beautifully. Excellent walkthrough!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I don't think I can actually afford to watch this video. I've never been on a boat and thought...know what this needs? A piano.
...but now...
There was a story on youtube about a couple that bought a famous sailboat and it probably wasn't more than 45 feet in length but the previous owner had a Piano on board. They said when they would pull into port people would come walking up to the boat because they thought the previous owner was there but I believe he passed away and everyone had a story to tell about the boat that seemed to be the party spot where ever they pulled into port. The couple did pull the piano out of the boat.
🤣❤️
@@johnwayne2103 Imagine the Piano mover's faces when they see the address is a marina...
@@AEodin There is a saying about any extremely well equipped item "it has every thing but the kitchen sink", well since all yachts DO have the kitchen sink, it had to be changed to something even more outlandish, but this floating palace even goes beyond the "rediculous" by including the piano. the only step beyond that would be if it was a grand piano.
@@dougscott8161 Yeah, my ideal boat would be able to sail somewhere
Hydronic heated towel rails in every head/ bathroom as well. Life is tough for some.
That thing is nicer than my house.
Mine too. And I have what people tell me is a pretty nice house.
Well it’s worth 2.75 million if you missed it in the description. Amazing boat.
Dutch ship this kind of ships where build as transport ships for goods they have a flat bottom and the wooden swords on the sides can be lowered as sort of keels
A converted Dutch Barge design!!!!!
Now everything makes sense!
And able to navigate shallow waters
Glenn Caton Every year you have the “Sneek week” in the north of the netherlands were they have sail races with these old boats and it’s amazing. Search for skutsjesilen on YT
Hmm yeah i liked skûtsjesilen did it in rotterdam but skûtsjes are different ships the are not as high there are more streamlined
those wooden swords are lee boards
Pretty sure this yacht was in for service back in 1967 - 68 at Minneford boat yard on city island NY I worked there and had to repair one of the carvings that got damaged in shipping from Europe to USA still looks like it did back then well kept,I was 18 at the time just becoming a life long Carpenter
This is a tjalk, traditional Dutch boat.
Yep it is It's name "de vrouwe Christina" is dutch for the lady Christina
platbodem schip
@@ivorolandmolenbeek1771 cool, thanks
Barend Garvelink , this was a new build as a yacht in 1957 by Feadship, one of the premier custom yacht builders in the Netherlands not a rebuilt old trading barge
I’m sure the recent modern refit was over spent but it is gorgeous, check out the brokers pictures !
@@CheersWarren DeVries-Lentch did new canal boat hulls in 57? I'm very skeptical of this. I lived several months on a tjalk in Paris, and it had been converted more or less at the same time, but the hull was from the 30s. There are several clues that show this had been a cargo vessel before being a yacht.
That's the best motor sailboat I've ever seen. The details and the woodwork is awesome.
I used to maintain her years ago when she was in Coconut Grove at Dinner Key Marina. The varnish does keep you busy...shes a very special lady...
That is really cool. I bet the upkeep is insanely expensive.
Did it actually cruise when you were maintaining her, or was it local-only?
She sat mostly at the dock getting worked on and as a drinking, sunset watching platform for the owners...
@@geoffreyhanan1837 Motorsailer? I hardly knew her!
geoffrey hanan , do you know who did the most recent refit , the hull work and interior defiantly gave it another lease of life.
Cheers Warren
That is an awesome boat, ok off to buy a lottery ticket
Invest in NNDM stock. You will 40X your investment within 5 years. I'm a professional investor and I never gamble with my money or put my money in a risky stocks, good luck.
I lived on a sailing barge for 3 years and it looks like one. The sailing barge was flat bottomed, 100 tons, 100 ft long. Used mostly for river transportation. Not very many left. Noticed the lee boards on either side of the barge which is consistent with sailing barges. The only boat that is allowed to open tower bridge in London legally.
I have ALWAYS had a fondness for classic Feadships since I saw my first one (I think it was one of the Prosits) back in my teens. This is an awesome unique find and I can only wish I had the means.
This can become a river cruiser and get under some bridges.
Use it for bass fishing.
This is actually a Dutch barge , used in the inland waterways and coastal area of the Netherlands as a commercial freightship.
WOW, of all the boats you've shown us I think this one tops them all. I can't imagine the maintenance of all that beautiful wood. You both said it, Very CLASSY BOAT.
I remember this boat was totally rebuilt in st Maarten from the bottom plates up Fasanating to see how it looks now
There is a 40 foot boat at the marina I work at. It has that pin set up for the mast and it’s no where near big as this mast. Let me tell you it was hell getting that thing on. It had two masts but I can’t imagine it on this boat.
Love that boat but can't imagine the maintenance
Never ending.
The fish on the front of the pilot house are not koi, they are historically carved dolphins used in the emblems of U.S. Navel submarines.
www.aboutsubs.com/dolphins.htm
The carving is known as an ancient dolphin.
with scales?
If you wonder about the fabulous interior work, Dutch shipyards are building some of the highest quality yachts in the world now. Feadship builds boats as big as 300+ feet for super rich clients. Their work is of the absolute highest quality and they are considered one of the finest yachts one can own. The interiors on these yachts are mind blowingly beautiful and very expensive too. One of the heirs to the Walmart stores fortune bought a "used" 310' Feadship for the rumored price of $300 million. She then had it taken to the German yacht builder Lurssen for a year to have the interior "freshened" to her tastes. It took over a year to do this, its just recently come out of the yard. Lord knows how much that cost!
I'm going to comment on the bow and stern thrusters. With the side mounted keel stabilizer in up position. You could go into shallower harbor. With stability in up position. And have completely control for docking. A regular sailing boat with large center keel, have watched sail boats come in with small outboard, and the large keel keeps them going in straight line. With the two thrusters it's like having a tug boat helping you dock. For someone who doesn't have lots of them time on docking( currents and wind) taking control of suck a large vessel. Those thrusters make any helmsman look like a PRO. That is a wonderful add on.
Absolutely fantastic boat. I would have loved to have seen more of the workings end. Meaning the engines and all the support systems. Such things as access and maintenance.
I'm not the showroom type of person going in and kicking tires and ooooing at the paint/varnish feeling the plushy leather seats.
At that price its a steel. Thats bigger than most homes.
It`s a matter of taste. Not too thrilled with the mix of styles inside, but nothing that couldn`t be salvaged by a next owner. All in all an unusual boat I wish I`d had a chance to see before the rebuild. Thanks for the tour!
Beautiful boat. Way out of my price range but beautiful. Good job. I know it's hard to describe this the first time you see it. WOW!!
I'll take two. They're small....LMAO. That vessel is absolutely the most phenomenal thing I've laid eyes on in a long time. WOW, just WOW.
Amen!!!!!!!
Just plain WOW!..think this is one of the best yachts you guys have ever shown..thanks for sharing..
What a yacht amazing modern feel down below but with amazing woodwork and finishing as well.
And yes love if you throw in a yacht like this every now and then.
Great video, loved the boat and the way you presented it. A few things I was looking for are what type of water maker, size of fuel tanks, water tanks etc. Other than that, loved it!
I looked up "yacht" long ago and found not a description, but a story. Some royalty went to the Netherlands on a state visit. While they were there they spent time on a boat much like this but so opulent it left an impression. How could this lesser royal be treated so much better? He can travel and never leave his castle. They called it a Yacht.
It’s a Dutch traditional boat vpknown as a “Tjalk” . At least it used to be before they Frankensteined it.
I didn't wanna say it. lol
Born in Kentucky but having been raised in Florida, I am an avid fan of sailboats. This one was a master, and surprisingly I expected this to be an $8-10 Million boat so when I saw the price, I was flabbergasted. Not in the market for one right now, but if it's still available late Fall, I may very well be a contender.
I too was amazed by the price 😍! I was also thinking of about $8+ millions. An unbelievable bargain 👌 at the asking price!
Isn’t this a Dutch sailing barge? Like a tjalk?
Yes it is, a traditional cargo boat. Really nice conversion.
Yes. The name is Dutch as well. De Vrouwe Christina means the Lady Christina.
funny, I have the same.... engine cooling water expansion tank.
What can you say... Feadship! Also an amazing conversion, and impressive refit. The new and classic flow seamlessly.
Your tour was wonderful. It is always great to see unique and progressive boats, so keep going!
There are not many sleeping cabins in this huge boat. Only one crew berth? I don't get it. Otherwise a very nice boat.
Robert Kowalski The grand saloon would be large enough for additional berths, but additional people would tax the amount of provisions that you would be able to take on a long passage. At seven knots that would take a long time. This boat also needs solar panels to reduce or eliminate the need to run generators to keep autopilot, navigation equipment, and vital loads running.
The large bed in the crew area is probably what passes for the captain quarters if they for some reason hired a captain.
I just called the Broker and apparently they wont sell it on a lay away plan :(
Hey I have an extra $5.00
🤣🤣🤣
What the....no fireplace, swimming pool or bowling alley? Unforgivable.
They could ask Feadship for a bowling refit, it's long enough( i googled it, they're 60 feet!
Then you have champion-ships while underway in crazy swells. Winner teaks all.
No helicopter pad, wtf?
A whole kitchen for one crew birth? Still though I love this boat.
I was thinking the same thing. It seems really weird to have one crew cabin with one berth with its own galley. Most of the time it would be preferable for the crew quarters to have multiple berths in one cabin and the crew would have their meals prepared in the same galley as everyone else rather than have one crew berth with its own galley.
idk--food allergies maybe?
It's called a "hot cot". One man sleeps while the other man is on tower (shift). And after 12 hours, they swap.
Which means the bed is always warm. Thus... a "hot cot".
I'd say the crew would hot bed.
I am thinking that the "futon/couch/bed" is also for the crew.
She's gorgeous!
Boats not bad either !
This type of boat is an old (or traditional) Dutch barge. Also called skutsje, tjalk, botter, platbodem. There still are a lot of them. This one seems extremely Americanized....
There are several racing events for these ships. Most famous is the Sneekweek in Friesland that takes all week. Beautiful sailing! Watch: ua-cam.com/video/w5K6OrzrI0M/v-deo.html
And 91 ft I bet she cruises really nice and well I have to say when I was young I grew up on the North Gulf Coast of Florida and I was on boats all of the time everything for shrimp boats pleasure cruises deep sea small sailboats big sailboats everything this is one of the most beautiful boats I've ever seen I would give the world to cruise on her thank you for sharing this boat with everyone
Howzit!...are you guys looking to buy a home on the water or...😊 this is a gorgous vessel, i could live the rest of my life on this....top marks to the builders of this amazing yacht...
those 'lee boards' are simmilar to what a fish uses, the SIDE fins, esp. of the catfish and flat fish families, OR like the 'foils' in dinghys, helps with stability in rough seas, aka what ocean liners(cruise ships) use to help avoid seasickness on long journeys.
Just a beautiful boat and well done guys. A lovely memory just to have been aboard.
Keep up the good work !
What an amazing magical vessel De Vrouwe Christina. Always great having you both as our guide. Congratulations Jordan is glowing which she has always been a classic beautiful lady. Thanks for this spectacular tour enjoyed this so much. What a View, Stay Safe and be happy : )
No doubt Jordan is glowing because his lovely bride Randi is with child.
I would be curious where the refit was done, hi quality tasteful work . The original builder Feadship is a top knotch Dutch boatyard and the style of the hull is the 18th and 19th century Dutch trading barges ,'Botters' is a common type with the wonderful bluff rounded bow and stern. You can see versions in painting by Dutch masters.
The stumpy rig should have a curved gaff increasing the sail area. Variations of this style are sailed , cruised and even raced hard in the Netherlands.
The wonderful Lee boards are to allow the boat to have an open hold in its working life and sit on the mud when the tide goes out as well as sail in the shallow waters of the Netherlands. It's the type of boat I imagine was owned by the 'traitor' in the most famous sailing spy story ever written , 'The Riddle of the Sands' by Erskin Childers. They called it a converted Galiot which is a good description. Named 'Medusa'.
Lovely video! Cheers Warren
Ps I think I prefer video of boats I could imagine affording or with potential but yachts like this should be in the mix.
That been said, the price tag on this boat is above the usual of such older boats! You cannot justify over 2 Million on any scale for such build up! It's nice but there I will stop, not sailing boat in any meaning.
N R Oh I hear what you’re saying if you check out the listing broker the boat actually had a new keel a. 8mm skin over hull! There are probably very few in the American market interested in such a boat but the Netherlands is full of beautifully maintained boat like this and this was built new by Feadship a Premier yacht builder
My Favorite tour so far. Keep up the great work!!
I love the craftsmanship and details that went into this beautiful boat, outstanding!
Stunning. Reminded me of the Turkish Gullets at first but then the leeboards gave it the feel of the old Dutch designs. An amazing vessel!
Yes, please a few more of the luxury barges. I think Randi's "glow" made the wood finish look better than it really was.
Beautiful but when I seen the price I had to play the lottery. Lol
2:12 They're not Koi fish. They're the Roman/Medieval classical depiction of a dolphin. "Porpoise" comes from "pig-fish" in Latin, and artists who hadn't seen the actual possibly used that description to draw what they thought was a dolphin. Also looks a bit like Mahi Mahi - known as a "dolphinfish".
The classical theme runs throughout the boat, with Neptune on the desk arms in the lounge, mosaic floors in the showers etc.
I like older boats but I am not a fan of motor sailers. I liked the woodwork and the layout wasn't bad....For a liveaboard in maybe CA it wouldn't be bad but you could find better sailing rigs for much much less with a similar level of quality. The only reason to look at this boat is as a work of art and stationary.
Dang that's a stunning boat,in every way,odd set up in the heads though, can't wear sox if you want to use the sink in there after the next person. Check out Clear Eyes, another stunning boat similar to this one, gorgeous boat, the interior cushions could be changed though..
Makes me want to buy a 1957 and do the work my self and a team for a year... granted I'd need to find it the Philippines for cheap labor.
Thanks for doing this video. This has to be one of the nicest boats I've ever seen on a UA-cam video or in person. The old school style of the boat (yacht) is great, but the refit they did is just absolutely stunning and brings the whole boat to another level. I love how they brought in the best aspects of modern styling (and tech, appliances, etc) while still maintaining that fantastic old "luxury liner" vibe. And...you guys are the BEST tour guides! (also, nice touch in starting to play the piano music after showing the piano! Was that your idea, Randi?)
Used to see quite a few of them in the Netherlands I enjoy living in Amsterdam those boats, canal boats are very much dutch.
Loved it hope to see more like this anything like this is just a dream for most of us though thanks for sharing
Like the two beds in owners cabin instead of one Large berth. The full use of BEAM in sailboat is what I like about there layout below deak.
Better to call it a barge than a yacht, very different to the countless tjalks in the Netherlands!
What is the draft? What's the beam? What is the range under power? It appears rather narrow thus might be rolly in cross seas. This seems to be a river or narrow lake boat. Could this be safely cruised in open water?
Offhand, the most bizarre and ecentric, not to mention costly, canal barges I've never seen. Beautiful, but bizarre. I'd really like to know how long it takes to sell, at what price.
You need a stinkin rich person who doesn't care about his money to pay that amount of 2.75 Million dollars! This is more of a barge that were refit to be a motor yacht, with 95 ton load .. I doubt this one will be sold. If they priced the yacht around 1 Million, possibly they will get someone to offer so much for the fun of it!
@@nr3059 That was the number I'm thinking also. One million, tops! But stunning features and finish! wow
You missed the heated towels racks. I would have like to know what size the engine were. Love the wood work.
