Good shortcut but wouldn't it have been better to drill out the spot welds instead of cutting the dash frame? then just use some small nuts and bolts to reassemble. Very good shortcut otherwise because you would typically have to completely remove the dash which is why the labor on this job is about 7 hours. I'm doing this job at my shop right now so I'm going to use this method except I'm going to drill out the spot welds instead of cutting the support rods so I can bolt it back together. Thanks for posting this
Could you please elaborate on drilling out the spot welds? Where exactly are the spot welds versus the dash frame? I have to change my heater core and would much prefer doing this method instead of removing the entire dash. Permanently damaging the dash frame worries me.
@ Itzel Dunn. How did it go? We did pull the dash off - actually, seems like we pulled everything in front of the windshield off and it does indeed suck
Anyone care to offer tips on this? I'm preparing to do the same on my '06 Commander. It's leaking coolant, and the shop wants about 1K to do the work. Is it worth it to do it myself or just fork up the $$$?
Just did this on my 07 commander. Worked great, don’t see any potential integrity issues as the dash seems as solid as before. Maybe over time but will look at reinforcing it if any issue arises. Too bad the heater core was fine and wasn’t my issue 🤦♂️

I tried drilling out the spot welds and didn’t work it was still stuck together I tried everything before cutting so you might have to end up cutting

Do not follow these instructions

Cutting supports isn't smart
Then go ahead and pay couple hundred to get it done ✅
