"The light novel author, Natsu Hyuga, actually confirmed in an X (formerly Twitter) post made in January 2021 that the guard later received punishment from the military strategist, Lakan. During “The Ritual” chapter, Lakan was visibly upset that his daughter was hurt. The short post of author Natsu Hyuga, also nicknamed Boar-sensei, revealed that the guard was beaten and tormented by Lakan (not him personally but Subordinates did it under his Order) for a while after that incident. The guard eventually managed to get promoted 2 years later because he is a hard-working guard at heart. She also added in a reply that the guard was just faithful to his duty. The events of episode 19 follow the light novel’s Volume 2, Chapter 12. Aside from this X (formerly Twitter) post, there are no further mentions of the guard’s character in The Apothecary Diaries’ light novels and manga adaptations."
The reason they were so shocked is because jinshi is someone with a very high standing. Royalty actually And he is carrying a mere servant in his arms so publicly showing everyone what she means to him. In that time a royal to have a relationship with anyone other than a royal was frowned upon. So lakhan just realised that maomao is much more than just a toy for jinshi
I think you're right but also, I think Lakan's plan to steal Maomao from Jinshi completely fell apart in that moment. It was clear in that moment that Jinshi has very strong feelings for Maomao. Lakan never expected his support of Maomao to turn against him. It was a miscalculation from a very calculating man.
It gives it easy away from his clothes....he weares a robe with the dragon on it. Thats the symbol of the emperor and we know now Jinshi is a very big deal.
I'm honestly impressed by your reaction to Lakan so far. The story goes out of it's way to pain him as a bad guy but you all were pretty slow to judge him and kept an open mind about him for the most part. Most people fell for the story's trick and wrote him off as a villain from the start, really cool to see how you all are following the story's message to not jump to conclusions.
Sherlock Maomao has had her Moriarty revealed, now why do they want Jinshi out of the way? Lakan was probably shocked seeing someone carrying his daughter out and seeing her bleeding.
You can clearly see Jinshi must be some kind of noble by the way the other people stand there and bow. So him carring a mere servant is a BIG deal. No noble would normally carry someone by himself let alone a servant. So that clearly indicates that she is someone VERY special to him. I think Lakan was shocked for several reasons. First his daughter is unconscious and bleeding, so i think he is in fear he might loose her for good. And second she is carried by a noble. Why that is significant i already explained.
That guard that hit Maomao can make is testament. Lakan was pissed. That look when he said that she is hurt ... if a gaze could kill, the guard would vaporize in that very moment ;).
Not sure if this spoils anything, but the guard's fate is revealed later in the novels. Anyway, SPOILER WARNING I guess: He's imprisoned and tortured for a while, but eventually let go. He even gets to keep his job and is eventually promoted. Lakan was furious at first, but figured that the guard was just doing his job. Lakan's pragmatic after all.
everyone else probably thinks that that was the emperor's brother who's always sick and hidden while jin shi is a different person. but only a few knows that jin shi is the emperor's son.
I know we got caught up in the sweet moment but i got annoyed at jinshi for not putting some bandage or pressure on her wound...the slow cinematic walk took precedence. Lol, I suspect lakan doesn't even do strategy...he just gives them the death glare....😅.... Maomao most definitely got that from him. Also, I think the shocked look on his face is him being disturbed by how badly his daughter is hurt....perhaps.
lol thats such a good point!! He also should’ve been walking a little faster no?? 🤣 yeah there are a lot of similarities between Lakan and Maomao! -Sam
@@TheReactPack It is considered rude, peasant behavior to be in a hurry in places of importance like the rear/inner courts and shrines. Momo was scolded for it earlier in the series. 13:18 "What if nothing goes wrong?" That's just the thing. Even if it went wrong, the chance it would be just as she ran inside is.. unlikely to say the least. I also hate Lakan's behaviour. That scene was so melodramatic, it gave me a migraine.
I can't lie, I wanted to crash out witht hat guard that hit Maomao. Like y'all said, he was three times her size, hitting a lady like that. The dude is hot trash. On more positive not, that was a very sweet and endearing moment between Maomao and Jinshi with him carrying her.
@@hhound4283 Oh snap 😂 I dun know if that's canon or not but from the death glare Lakan gave him, something tells me that if no one else was around, that guard might have had an "unfortunate accident" and would have had an "early retirement to a farm in a quiet village somewhere far away, and nobody should be asking any further questions" 😂

without a doubt my favorite episode
everyone else probably thinks that that was the emperor's brother who's always sick and hidden while jin shi is a different person. but only a few knows that jin shi is the emperor's son.
I love this beautiful scene, but I was like "please hurry up a little bit more" lol
Jinshi's a high-ranking noble, he's probably not allowed to hurry, it would cause panic.
tbf Maomao could have brain damage so running with her is not the best idea either
At this point, I just want to see them react to Lakan's backstory
That was the best episode…so far. I personally think the best is still coming!
He's not a bad person. He just loves his daughter very much.
I like the gold and blue contrast on that Columbia t shirt
Poor Maomao 🥺
It definitely was the best episode

If Maomao had a concussion it would’ve been bad if Jinshi was running. Also it’s improper to run in a religious area.

Not really a love story Maomao has zero romantic interest for Jinshi.
