IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The Annual Mussel Quarantine in California is in effect from May 1 through October 31. Consumers can receive updated information by calling the California Department of Health Services “Biotoxin Information Line” at (800) 553-4133. Make sure to call the Biotoxin Information Line on the same day that you plan to harvest once the quarantine is lifted.
I went to Half Moon Bay during the last lowest tide of 2019 to forage for sea urchins and California mussels. My cousin Jino, as well as, my friend Artnelson and his family came along for the trip. In this episode, I show you how to open sea urchins without tools and how to clean wild mussels for use in a Filipino soup called, sinigang.
    Ingredients for Sinigang
    5 cups of water
    1 yellow onion (quartered)
    2 tomatoes (quartered)
    1/2 of green beans (trimmed)
1 bunch of kangkong (water spinach) or regular spinach
2 inch piece of ginger (sliced thick)
1 or 2 packages of tamarind soup base

Just one thought... you probably should mention in your video and in the video description about calling the bio toxin line the same day you plan on harvesting to prevent paralytic shellfish poisoning. The conditons are always changing even in the safe months for harvesting bivalves. Other than that great video! Your soup looks amazing!

I have been wanting to do that! Is Half Moon Bay is the only one place to go to?

There are plenty of places collect mussels. There are locations in Pacifica and San Francisco that are easily accessible from shore. You need to go during low tide when rocky shores are exposed.
