Fun video! Thank you for sharing this. I also love that food 😊. I didn't know we could catch them without diving in California. Need diving to catch it in Korea.
just a tidbit of info, purple sea urchins are actually native to ca! the not so fun fact is that their main predator (sea stars) has been pretty much decimated from the wasting disease. love local channels and hopefully more coverage could encourage help to sea stars to bring back our ecosystem :)
Just got my license for $58 for annual pass two days ago in California. We went to half moon bay. I figured it’s a better value than the $20 day pass if I plan on going frequently
Because the ones you get from the shore aren’t the same as the ones you get from the store. Plus the quality control and labor into it. But I will say it is quite fun to go out a try a new species of sea urchin that you aren’t getting at the store and is only available on the shore at a really low tide. Watch the tide tables in your area!

Pacifica will be a good place to get this invasive type of sea urchin
thanks for the tip! i'll check it out!

Do you know the best season for foraging purple uni?
Do you mind sharing the location? I would like to try for the first timer
How did you even come up with the idea of doing this Alex 😂
It was Cora’s idea 😂

I ate her urchin when he fell asleep!!!!
Do you need a license to do this? If so how much is it?
Yep you do! Look up California fishing license, I think it’s around $20 for a day pass and less than $100 for annual pass

Why buy it for more than 20$ if you just can get stroll to the near beaches and catch that free food right ashore

Yep agreed! Foraging sea urchins is a fun experience, but definitely not as accessible as going to a store!
