  • The Ensoniq SQ is a killer ambient pad machine
Since the resurgence of Ensoniq on the scene after Aturia released their fine softsynth SQ-80, I thought it was time to showcase what's its very capable younger brother was capable of.
Still available for bargain basement prices the SQ has some wonderful characteristics.
Once you get past the presets and delve deep into the synth engine on these gems they are very capable synths that were even possibly superior to their big name big reputation competitors.
The only problem is they are very heavy and often built like military grade hardware.
I hope you enjoy the video and if you like it please subscribe to and support my channel for more videos just like this.

    Oh how nice!!!!!
It's me - the author of this bank of sounds !!!!
I created them for myself, and then posted them on the Internet.
I'm glad people are using them!
On many sounds I have programmed interesting changes to the wheel.
Too bad it's not included in this video.
Since this instrument does not have a resonant filter - I programmed the change of the starting point on the transwaves - and put the control of this on the wheel.
For example, if you turn the wheel in the Magnetic F1 patch, interesting sound transformations will occur.
I have owned this instrument since the 90s and created a huge amount of music on it.
I think that the developers deliberately loaded rather indistinct sounds into it, so that it would be clearly cheaper than TS 10))))
That's why I always created my own sound banks for this device. The architecture of its synthesis allows you to make great surround sounds. It's just that many do not know this and use its built-in cheap presets.
I created many more sounds for ambient and not only ... Now I realized that I need to put them out for people too.

This synth is the next generation from the sq1 and is more of a rompler whereas the sq1 is more of a digital/analogue hybrid.
The sounds are not compatible sorry

You'll need either a USB -to- MIDI cable or audio interface and something to send MIDI (or .syx) from your computer to you synth; a good and common program for this is MIDI-Ox. The you load the .mid or .syx file into the software (e.g., MIDI-Ox) and send it to your SQ-1.
Not to make it too complicated, but bear in mind you'll likely need to increase buffer size in MIDI-Ox (or other software) as many older synths aren't generally reading in the data quickly enough to receive a big barrage of data.
