I took all evening making these tools from pictures , then the fun started. My first row looked like the kindergarten class had gotten a hold of the leather. My arch with the sun rays looked ok but it took some filing on the edging tool. Now after several hours of waisting leather I have a better looking ribbon , but I need to start over on the bevel tool. I kept filing it to get the rite shape and it is close but is now too little. It's a real learning process when you have never tooled leather and starting off with tools made only from pictures. You sir make this look too easy. It's amazing at how you glide with the bevel tool and strike each one at the perfect spot each time. If you could, maybe show your tool placements better like show exactly how you hold and position each tool. I froze the scream and studied the finished ribbon to understand how you were holding the tool. I hope to learn many more techniques from you in the future. 👍👍👍👍👍
Can't wait to get home... I've got a couple camo tools I had duplicates if and decided to grind the texture off and I use them just as figure tools to tighten up edges of curves and such. This k they'll work pretty great for this..
I really like that ribbon border. I have been trying to come up with a border that was simple but yet impressive. Guess what! I think I found what I was looking for. I subscribed to your channel. Thanks
holy crap!! this is the best vid I have ever come across for leather tooling! I am not very experienced, and so these kinds of tips and tricks are awesome to see!!
I finally received the tools and practiced making this lovely border last night. Can you please tell me how far apart the two guidelines are? Thank you so much.
Thank you! I recently purchased a large selection of leather stamps to work with on polymer clay. I'm just now learning all the amazing things one can do with them. This was definitely an eye popper and awesome piece of inspiration.
I use the same beveler to do a rope design in an 1/8 wide set of lines. I also tried this ribbon effect with a small camouflage tool and it looked good, thanks Boothill Bob.
Great Tutorial Bob. Thanks so much. I was trying this on some round coasters the other night and found that the inner row of stamping does not mach with the outside row. The result was an inconsistent thickness of the ribbon. Thankfully I tested on scrap first. Is there a way to resolve the problem?
You might want to use a smaller camo tool on the inside (as the circle is smaller) it may take some messing around but once you find the right size it should line up every time. that is all I can think of anyway :)
This is very cool. I'm at work(Lunch break) so I have to wait till evening to try it but I wonder how hard it would be to make a 90 degree turn for corners. I'll sure try it tonight. Thanks.
Great, thanks for a very simple and concise explanation, I don't know what the dislikers were looking for, maybe lots of chat, fancy boring music, but you did it without all that c**p, well done my friend
I can’t make this work. Having trouble with the beveler. Mine doesn’t look even close to yours. Can you describe more detail about how to place the beveler? I have the same beveler as yours.
Hi Bob..great tutorial, thanks. By the way, what cut/finish of veg tan leather is that? I ask because I like the grain in it. The surface of the 2.5mm veg tan I am using is too smooth for what I want...but yours looks ideal - Like this guy uses Stateside to make amazing sheathes - check him out; www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/568981-Some-tips-and-thoughts-on-folder-sheaths Hope you can advise as you appear to use the same cut/finish of leather Cheers Pete
Very nice thanks for sharing

Glad it could help some.. I will make a new video when I got the time and get the angles better.
Thanks so much! Easy but looks difficult and its beautiful! Can’t wait to try it!
Great design!! I can just imagine it on a belt border. Fantastic!
Very nice addition to any craftsmans toolbox. Thank you!
Awesome! I love that you showed me how to make this great design with out having to have all the extra tools (just the mostly standard beginner tools)
You're welcome

Amazing pattern with just 2 tools! Awesome thanks for this.
This is fantastic! The camo tool is quickly becoming my favorite! 😊
That's just pretty neat. It's amazing what can be done with stamping tools. Some are pretty simple but look great.
Very nice. Simple to do, and you show it well. Thanks!

Too cool. I’m gonna have to use that. Thank you.
What should be the minimum thickness of veg tan leather for tooling? Could you pls guide?
Thank YOU ! Real neat little tutorial.
Verry nice work.
It look amaizing.🙌👏
how do you end the boarder pattern line?
I use the same beveler to do a rope design in an 1/8 wide set of lines. I also tried this ribbon effect with a small camouflage tool and it looked good, thanks Boothill Bob.

Lovely tutorial, thank you!

My grandad was a leatherman and he taught me some things like this when I was little.
Just curious how you finish this design? Unless you run it off the end of the project how do you get a clean end matching the “sunburst”?
If you look at www.boothill.se I have a wallet with that pattern.
@@boothillcustomleather8652 Thanks

It's hard to explain.. Maby I can make a new film with close up pictures.
Thanks for the video, for your time and for sharing this technique.
You're welcome
Awesome! Thank you! Definitely going to try it!
Have you tried it yet?
(incredible and valuable) that's what gives leather projects "value" and makes people say "incredible"
Thanks for sharing your talent. Paz
Thank you for sharing, wonderful pattern

Very nice. Thank you.
とても個性的で素晴らしいですね!
I couldnt recognize the second tool you used . But good job.
The second tool is a beveler, B203 from Tandy leather
How far apart are you guidelines?
That's not so important, it's about 5mm. You can experiment with the spacing..
Thanks nice tip!
How far apart do you make your lines, it looks like about 1/8 inch.
E Wayne 1/8" is ok. You can make is wider or narrower, or just one line. Play with it and you'll see.
@@boothillcustomleather8652 One line doesn't look right after you hit it with the beveler, only a small camo tool works with one line, just FYI.
jäkla snyggt ;-)
What kind of compass? Help to get the same! Beg!!!
They are wing dividers
Awesome. Thank you

@@ВладимирУсатов-д6х great, that would look nice.
Carpenter hatchets
I cant get this down to save my ass
I’m having a hard time with it too. Would be helpful to see up close how the beveler is placed on the pattern.... direction, front, back, sideways
He's not an American!???
Nope, I'm not American
Awesome. Thank you
