Excellent video, and I love the clamp for holding the fish. Looking forward to my next fishing trip without that feeling (after four or five catches) of “I’ll be ages filleting these when I get home”. Thanks.
I am Peter Boerlage the person who did the filletting with Danny doing the video. Couple of questions that were asked. The knife is a BUCK 225 made in China. The board - clamp I got at Kmart. This makes the job of filletting so much easier. Thanks for the tips about bleeding the trout I will try that in the future. Is there any other videos people would like me to do?? Great that people have found this beneficial. I am just another fisherman who enjoys filletting trout. If you want to contact me to ask a question or give me advice please do this best through messenger. Cheers Peter Boerlage Cīhristchurch New Zealand.
ive wathced a lot of videos on this and this is the best one. skinning a filet is the hardest part for me I cant seem to get it right. he makes it look so easy.
That was a tremendous filleting job. I would have kept some of that meat, but especially the way you did the pin bones was really clean and good. Nice video.
My advice to anyone who is thinking about starting a UA-cam channel is literally to make a start. I am still looking at some of my videos in horror and freak out watching the ones I started with. I’m getting better every time I do one, just don’t judge yourself on the top performers of UA-cam they have a hard act to follow.
I was filming Peter he uses a very soft blade which surprised me it's quite flexible necessarily not the sharpest even though blunt knifes cut more than sharp ones
best trout fillet demo I've seen so far, most leave the pin bones in? Wish I'd seen this 2 days ago, had trout fillet for tea tonight, mine didn't look like that tho.
Thank you for your support. I just checked out your UA-cam channel over 3000 subscribers well done you. I hope I get that many soon I subscribed and hit the bell even though I am a Vegan.
I've never seen anyone fillet a trout. We usually just gut them and bake or grill them. If we catch a big one we might cut it into steaks. I might have to try this. Great video.
This is beautiful but on something like a trout or a salmon I'd never cut out the pin bones. After you've done a fish or two it takes maybe 20 seconds with pliers to grab them and you're left with an intact full fillet. Beautiful product though here.
Good, but you don't need to cut all the way to the skin on the pin bones. With a fillet that size you can cut em out and still have a fully intact fillet instead of one with 2 legs.
Look a video of the master filleter Risto Kosonen from Finland. There are no english subtitles but that man was champion of the world as handling northern fishes. Video is called " RISTO KOSONEN KALANKÄSITTELY". Look how a real pro works look care fully hisvway of handling knives..Like other professionals I do not use Rapala knives. We use SWIBO or VICTORIONOX. Regards from Finland
You got that right! You could eat bones, but there's so many fish in the lake why not eat the lovely stuff and put the bones in the compost, surely eating bones isn't as nice as eating beautiful brown trout.
The problem lies with the amount of fish that you can take from the that lake each day. To be honest, there is ample supply, so why eat it all when you can just eat the good stuff? 🐟🌊 I.E Do you eat the apple core as well? 🍎 Not criticizing, but I think I understand your point. If you lived in a third world country, you would eat every scrap. However, we don't live in a third world country, so we don't actually employ that thinking. Thank you for your comment. 🙏🌍
So all amateur fisherman should go and work as a commercial filter before they get onto UA-cam and show people how they do it? Have you got a video online yourself that we could watch?
Oh jesus. Did you even bother to watch his release a trout video? No. Just bitch about who eats what. Btw, I haven’t bothered to see if he has a release a trout video. Sir, please make a release a trout video where you pull the bones out of a fish and release it.
I love trout, I’ve watched plenty of trout filleting videos and this is by far the best one yet, very practical and polished technique. Well done
I’ve done over 250 videos on helping people from getting scammed and my biggest looked video is of my mate filleting my lunch ;-)

Yes Peter made his own board very handy for a slimy fish
possibly the best trout cleaning video I've seen

Nice work mate I just watched this just before filleting a nice fat lake Argyle rainbow 👌👌

Beautiful job! Bleed out your trout/salmon right after you catch them by cutting their gill plates
I just immediately snap their necks. Quick and easy

That is the way its done. Beautiful

When I try this in November, it will look like the fish died in an explosion.
Lmao 😂 just happened to me recently too . Felt bad for wasting a lot of meat but I guess have to learn right
love your board the fish was on
Pretty simple but it works

Not bad. But you could have picked the pin bones out with a set of tweezers.
Tedious work for little reward. I do the tweezer method as well because I hate wasting.
That sounds like a stupid idea. He pulled that row of bones out like a zipper.
Erm, yeah I think I’ll just bake it whole 😂

I've used pliers before but found I would break a few bones in half and would make a mess trying to find them.
Please do these wide screen,!
We will try to do better
Those pin bones dissolve with pan frying or frying. I just leave them
Can the bones be pulled out with pliers like you would with a salmon?
Can't see why not

Who the heck trims the shape of the fish first to make it look good lol.
The skin is the best part of the fish

nice I need this vid because I caught a 89 pound brown trout and my dad wanted me to flay it world record baby
Do u really think people believe that you caught an 89 pound brown trout
just pull the pin bones with some tweezers
I was filming and I have seen Peter do that as well

Wish this was in the wide screen, not watching.
Sorry - thanks for the feedback will do better next time.
Good but so much wasted
Thank you for your comment it’s much appreciated
Hey mate you are losing a bunch of good meat when you pulled out all of the pin bones.
There is currently an abundance of fish and Peter was simply showing how to get the best meat out of the fish.
You can even eat the bones ..we eat ..Hella yummy ...don't waste it that way ..🙏
