    Having healthy ends are my biggest struggle with my hair. I used to only cut it once a year, but a few years back I decided to really start taking care of my hair, and so I started to get it trimmed every second month just to keep my length but also get rid of damaged hair. It gave me better ends, so slowly I started to spread my trims out. I started to trim it every third month, and now I trim it every fourth or fifth month :)

    How do you find a professional that will cut only what you ask and not try to bully you into cutting more?

    • @abasketboy
      @abasketboy 7 років тому +23

      I suggest that you go into the salon & ask to speak to the hairdresser who would be trimming your hair. Explain clearly what you want; be affirmative, listen to her responses (is she listening to you?) & gauge the hairdressers' body language. Look at the hairdressers' hair; if it's short & a modern style, you probably want to leave her & that salon well alone. Under all circumstances, walk out & say you will think about it. Then visit 5 other salons & explain what you are wanting in the same way. Finally choose a hairdresser that makes you feel confident that they will do what you ask. Then, visit your chosen hairdresser for your trim explaining again what you want & also telling them that your hair (as it is) means a lot to you. If they try to bully you into having more cut off than you asked, you should walk straight out.

    I just cut off all my damaged ends. You’re very right about not retaining length with damaged ends... I guess technically I could have left it, and gained *some* length... but it kept breaking, so what’s the point imo

      Same. The last time I went to a salon I asked for a one inch trim and she chopped off about 7 inches. I went from classic length hair to waist length hair. I was so upset. I cut my own hair every 4 months now

      Getting a trusted friend to trim your hair (or doing it yourself) is the solution for some ladies. But if you are going to a salon & you have beautiful long hair then ask questions, find out from others how a particular salon treats its clients & go a little up-market, avoiding the cheapest salons.

    I have been doing my own hair since I was fourteen, for many of the reasons you mentioned. I went to one place and it was a great collaboration. She taught me that trims can involve a bit more risk, so to speak, especially with light framing and layers. It's really good to do, if one feels enough confidence. Barring that, though, finding someone who is respectful of what you want and really listens is key, like this video explains. I need to trim my hair more often, so I don't get as much breakage. I also partake of biotin supplements, which has helped with thickness, growth and overall hair health.

    I think it's a good idea to get half an inch every three months because then you only lose 2 inches in a year from cutting technically but you still can maintain the pretty fresh cut look and healthy looking ends more often

    It's been about a year since I cut about 5 inches off my hair to start anew and embark on a hair growth journey. I had planned to trim my hair now a year later, but I have no split ends. Like I'm serious I can't find any split ends. I never ever use heat or chemicals or brush when wet or anything bad. I oil my hair twice a week and spend most of the week with my hair in braids. Should I still trim my hair if it's been a year since I cut it but I don't have any split ends? Or should I wait to see what it's condition is in another 6 months-year?

    • @OrganicallyAnna

      If you don't have any split ends then you don't have to cut it! It's completely up to you 💕

    Your hair is so gorgeous! I believe in trimming only once or twice a year like you too. I'm planning on doing S&D(Search&Destroy) every 3 or 4 months. That's where I'm only taking off 1cm. Which is only the tips. My hair grows a lot faster that way, and I do retain a lot of length too!

    • @OrganicallyAnna
      @OrganicallyAnna  7 років тому

      Thank you so much ❤ and I do that sometimes too! Especially in the winter when it gets super dry

      @Blondie35 7 років тому

      You're welcome very much love! Yes, it is always good to do that in the winter when it gets super dry. With the kind of hair I have which is relaxed and color-treated I keep my hair moisturized with deep conditioning creams and treatments, and oils. I don't ever have any problems with split ends. I do my own S&D at home. I don't trust anyone doing it. I always do a good job in not trimming off too much length. :-)

    How did you go about getting your hair from a v shape to a straight line? I currently have a v shape and want it straight but I’d lose a lot of length.. just cut the long part? Don’t know

    • @OrganicallyAnna
      @OrganicallyAnna  6 років тому +2

      I just slowly started having it cut straight across. I think it took about 4 trims or so to get it almost fully straight. I just asked her to cut it as straight across as possible without taking off more than one inch, and I told her that I was trying to have it all one length. It will take some time to get it that way from a V cut without cutting a lot off at once, but patience is key!💕
