I really appreciate how the swearing isn't sensored out, it makes it so much easier to follow what's going on.
Thank EU/UK for that. Only USA uses the stupid bleeps...
@john mcgee lemme rephrase then : Thank anywhere else in the world.
@@mura-moto wtf you on about they use bleeps in the eu and uk
@@mura-moto Yeah, but we get Mike Rowe!! There is no competing with that level of narration!
I wish they would release uncensored dvds. I get so fucking sick of the beeps….
Imagine being the engineer working non-stop on deck and then having to deal with that, covered in hydraulic fluid to boot, fucking crazy town.
Finally a clip that’s unbleeped!!
When I used to work at a power plant, not only did we have to report any accidents to our safety director, but near-misses had to be reported as well, like the one where the deckhands nearly got caught in the line. Fishing the Bering Sea should just be considered a constant near-miss.
I work in power generation, as you know, there is enough idle time and cash flow to invent high level safety standards....the fishing industry and many others would be decimated if they adhered to those same standards.......how about police and fireman or military who run straight into danger?......lol....
All I can think of when I hear time bandit is “RETURN THE MAP!”
YES and THANK YOU!
Yeah we found the leak now lets keep it running for another minute or two and watch it dump hydro fluid all over the engine room. Cool
Thats just the show running the scene over and over for dramatic effect.

ANY AMERICAN COMPLAINING, THIS IS NOT A NEW NARRATOR. THIS IS THE NARRATOR FOR THE UK VERSION OF THE SHOW

ALSO THIS IS NOT A NEW EPISODE IN THE USA, ANDY HAS RETIRED AFTER SEASON 10. THE TIME BANDIT HAS BEEN OFF THE SHOW ALSO.
Where in the F is mike Rowe????
We're not deaf, so why are you shouting ? Are you stupid or just computer illiterate?
I sure miss seeing that boat and that boat remember me of the black number three and Dale Earnhardt Sr because racing is not the same without him and this show is not the same without that boat. I miss Phil too.
I know it's fluid but that first shot the camera gives when they get into the engine room looked like a murder scene in there.
usually hydraulic oil is not red
That’s definitely red anti-freeze
Talking about a Hydro leak on a Cummins generator and showing a Coolant leak on a Caterpillar...
Exactly. I’m a logging heavy equipment operator and it’s pretty obvious this was pathetically staged.
So do I I ❤it when Andy Hillstrand swears
These guys are the reason I enjoy my crab leg dinners! 🤘🏼
I would be the skipper and go down to the engine room and be all like, "Smoke'em if you got'em."
Did anyone notice the Caterpillar yellow paint? Lmao. But yet they have Cummins engines. And thats a coolant line leaking. Must be getting tips from gold rush
They must go through a lot of hydraulic motors running coolant in the hydro system....
Yep hydraulic fluid doesn't flow like that. A little nalcool in the water turns it red.
No shit! Haha. I can't believe they are bullshit an oil leak there.
@@timothykappel198 or are they using transmission fluid because of the cold temps and thinner velocity?
Them guys are doing there job and did a good job on find it 👌👍😁 so if anybody complains try doing it better than they did go fishing see how it is
Ah Hydro leak not so bad, but a fuel leak atomized in the engine room, now that's your worst nightmare. :(
But that's why they use diesel it takes high pressure to atomize it only the high pressure injection pump has enough pressure to do that but that can happen and yess bad times.
I always wanted to go try this and see if I could make it through a season.
Hard work, but short for 50k

As a marine mechanic, that was pathetically staged.
yep agreed they let the hydraulic fluid leak out way too long after finding it to be believable, looks like someone loosened the oring

Sure looks like it to me. My hydraulic oil is not red, but my Caterpillar coolant is. And what they show sloshing over the diamond plate, moves more like water, and not oil.
Could be transmission fluid?
What you are seeing in the footage is coolant leaking out of a caterpillar engine. For some stupid reason They had to throw that in there. Because footage of the hydraulic leak wasn't good enough I guess.

combustable liquid everywhere, keeps enigne on an sends crew next to it.
Hydronic fluid has a fairly high flash point. It will ignite when in contact with something as hot as the exhaust, but the exhaust system is typically completely wrapped to keep temperatures down in the engine room.
i cant believe some of the comments from the experts here
No explosion
That looks like coolant not hydro oil... Plus it was coming out of a coolant pipe not to mention why is a generator pumping the oil. This show always exaggerated problems for suspense.. it wouldn't be scary if they said it was what it really was which was a simple coolant leak. Not to mention hydraulic oil would have to be atomized and hit an open flame to even just burn.

It’s thin oil, like automatic transmission fluid so it still flows in the low temps out on the sea. And they plumb it with as much hard line as possible to prevent hose ruptures. As far as a generator pumping hydraulic oil, they have their primary engines for propulsion then an auxiliary engine that provides electricity and hydraulic pressure to run the fishing gear.

I kind of don't understand why there isn't someone always in or near the engine rooms with just the one job of monitoring and keeping these things from suddenly being a big problem. I get the ships already don't have much space, but it just seems to me like cycling out a person into an "engineering shift" off the main deck for a few hours would be smarter.
If you stayed in that room for any extended period of time you would go deaf.. aside from the fact that it is the definition of wasted time.
Most vessels that size, have cameras that can be monitored from the wheelhouse. Ours also has a Murphy switch, that would set off bells, when the hydro tank dropped by a mere twenty gallons. It could not be set for anything less, to allow for the extending, and retracting, of crane cylinders. Also, with 1 guy in the rack for his 4 hours off, there is no extra crew to be on engine watch.
@@patrickellis1151 I have over 30 years in the engine room. The noise, is not the issue, but the heat! Come in off the deck in all your gear, and you start to sweat right away. Going back outside, that sweat freezes, making you feel very miserable indeed! Our engine room ran about 120 degrees. The day tank itself, turns into a 1,000 gallon heater as the return fuel from the engines, heat it up too.
@@patrickellis1151 That's kind of why I said near. I didn't mean that it would be their only job. I guess these things just happen at a frequency that wouldn't justify it, but having someone go do a quick check every hour or so wouldn't hurt.
@@ConvairDart106 I work on large ships, we never leave the engine room whilst on watch. There is a control on larger vessels to escape the heat and noise

Why would you use a low flash hydro fluid on a boat? Or anywhere, ever? We like flames. Flames are funnnnnn...
It's too bad that they edit this show the way they do. They would be better off I think just to have two hours of raw footage, instead of editing the nonsense into it.. the time bandit has Cummins engines. One of the O-ring face seals on the hydraulic pump on the back of the generator was leaking oil...instead of just showing that they edit in footage of a caterpillar engine with a coolant leak with 2 loose hose clamps. And then they show a bunch of footage of coolant sloshing around a bilge. Not hydraulic oil. I'm pretty sure that's the Northwestern.

Of all the mechanical issures/failures I've seen from this shows. OSHA would shut them down and shows the lack of cleanliness and maintenance they do. 🤣 but rules are meant to be broken LOL "On our way to break some OSHA violations" great show don't get me wrong, just making a general statement
Only thing they have to worry about the Coast Guard
This is under the purview of the Coast Guard.
OSHA has no jurisdiction over lack of maintenance OSHA can only step in if working conditions are not safe for the employees. Once these boats get so many miles offshore, OSHA can't even dictate the working conditions.
Do you even know what osha does? Spell it out and maybe it will click for you. Also, it’s coast guard who is the issuing authority for these guys

Deadliest Catch should be called "Dullest Catch" or "Retards in boats" or "Meth-heads with Crabs". It used to a real show about a hyper dangerous industry then they went to quotas and made it a hell of alot safer. You can die and get hurt but in the early days it was like russian roulette. Feels like it lost it soul and it became grown men acting like 12 year olds with mega amounts of squabbling and bitching.
It has never been a real show. We went to IFQ's, before the show started. I was in the last great derby fishery, in 1999, when we fished 4 months, for almost 300 million pounds. There has been no quota nearly as high, since then. We also lost 4 boats that year. Our boat, F/V Lady Helen, was 90 feet. We had no choice to stay in port, when you have 160 foot boats to compete against. Now, you are given a quota, meaning it is waiting for you, and there is no need to put your life in danger, except to please an armchair audience!
That was so staged! You can clearly see the hose wasn't tied down by the clamp! The clamp is completely loose and just "hanging" there. The other hose was clearly loose too. Those hoses don't come loose unless you turn the screw manually. I've worked on enough cars and have personally used those clamps to know what I'm talking about.
