+Chime (HairCrush) Wow beautiful sister with a highly intelligent and thoroughly learned balance, the way it should be! Fully schooled us, I appreciate the videos keep em' coming!
This video is awesome sauce!!!!! I love it when information about our history and culture are shared. It's like my own i'm black and i'm proud online moment. 😊🙌😊
I think Evan now adays our hair is still vary import end to black people especially black women with the natural movement going on. People at my school tell me a bomb exploded on my head and I tell them I just don't fit there mold of beautiful. People need to see the beauty in curls. And everyday more and more people do :)
I just LOOOOOVE the part where they were told to cover up their hair thinking it would make them less eye catching yet they still slayed like we black girls always do
Wow a lot of changes. From press N curls, to afros, to braids, to relaxers, to weaves and now natural! We really have changed since long ago. I'm happy that we are embracing our, curls, coils, waves, and kinks!!!!
+ImaRobin M I'm great full that the afro became a symbol for the black power and panther movements. As it still evokes awe, confidence, rebellion, similar to locs these may not be practical everyday styles for some but they display black afro hair in its most organic form.
THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST NATURAL HAIR VIDEO TO DATE.! I understand our desire to learn how to properly care for our hair and to look good BUT the natural hair movement has become so MUNDANE and very...well, shallow. I have almost totally stopped viewing natural hair vids BUT THIS gives me hope that "the natural hair movement" can serve what should be its RIGHTEOUS purpose to GET BACK TO NATURE/OUR ROOTS. We have been colonized & have forgotten WHO WE ARE
Yeah me too. I actually said deuces to the community a couple years ago ( still natural though). I recently resurfaced, and I noticed a very artificial sense of natural and the very things that made the movement organic and fun and loving and easy going....lost. Am back, and I will do what I need to do to pass down these intangibles and the truth that our hair is beautiful and all it needs basic tlc for it to thrive the way it did when we were HOMES.
tiffany goff I agree!!!!!!!!!! Too many women are acting as if they are better due to their natural hair...I have natural hair myself and I can not stand these women.
***** Several reasons. I am Nigerian, natural, and VERY VERY knowledgeable about black history I will list the reasons. 1. Some natural hair women can be conceited and judgmental without wanting to teach another black woman about their natural hair 2.I wear wigs sometimes to change up my style and protect my real hair, which is below my breast when straightened. Some natural hair women will come out me like they are crazy not knowing that I have natural hair. 3. Some go natural just to grow long hair and then relax it. While they are natural they put down relaxed hair until they relax their hair later. 4. Some naturals hide their natural hair under weaves and then talk shit about natural hair women who may be wearing a wig or weave as a protective style. I have seen this, 5. Sadly there are natural hair women who are natural but subconsciously hate their natural hair and only like the loosely coiled natural hair. It can be frustrating. Then all some talk about is natural hair. I had a teacher who originally had a perm but the moment she cut her hair and went natural she started clowning the black girls at my school with relaxed hair. Ugh! .
Girlwonder Oh my goodness. I agree, one thing I can't stand about the natural community is the slander against 4c hair, and just the texture typing. Everybody expects loose curls, and supports those textures but not 4c. It's annoying but I try to ignore them. The others, I didn't actaully think some people are like that.
Black women you are Queen!!! You are the original wombman of humanity. We black men still love you!!! We still ride for y'all and love y'all deeply!!!! Y'all are the most strong, hard-working, talented, women on the planet!!!! We need y'all and let's rebuild our community as the original black man and black wombman!!!! Thank you black wombman for riding for us during these past few years plus the 400 years we endured during slavery!!!! Black women we black men LOVE & APPRECIATE y'all!!! ✊🏾❤️💯
Wow , this video needs to be shown to every single woman who believes their natural hair is ''disgusting'' or ''unnprofessional'' I live in South Africa and women with natural hair are surprisingly quite rare , luckily my mother taught me the beauty and importance of my crown at a young age . Thank you for this video
This is why when people say that slavery doesn't affect black people today you should call them a damn lie. Without the knowledge of our history, we're basically bootleg Europeans.
It leaves me with mixed emotions. I am so proud of our heritage and without knowing we still wear elaborate hairstyles and it's because it's always been apart of our culture. Then I get so pained and angry to think we've been psychologically damaged by people who forced their superiority complex on us due to hatred, jealousy and control. I so appreciate that you took the time to put this together. Our youth need to know their history and some of us who should know that don't know can now know. I can go on and on but you all get the point. I love my blackness. I just wish everybody appreciated too. Thank you, Sis.
This made me feel so much pride in my culture. This is why cultural appropriation bugs me so much...members of the black diaspora in this country have literally been tortured, abused, and even legally barred from wearing their hair certain ways, then eventually it became culturally barred, and now we're experiencing a much welcome surge in people wearing their the hair the way THEY want to whether that's in weaves or natural or whatever they want to do, and I love that. I just hate that once some white model decides to do it on a runway or something, suddenly these styles are "in" "edgy" or "cool" when we've literally been fighting anti-blackness for the right to wear these styles AND be respected at the same time for literally centuries. I wouldn't mind other people wearing these things as much if it didn't always come with them literally getting credit for our cultural accomplishments. Sighs.
Wow, we consume 80% of the hair industry but only own 3%. There's money to be made ladies, let's get on this! I so desperately hope that fros become a regular thing again.
As an African it was lovely to see you connect it all back to African roots. American black history might not be directly mine but I completely understand, connect and share the same goals for the future of Afro-textured hair. Similarly a large portion of African women I have come across have the same "straight is better" mentality my relatives alike. However I think a new generation is surging that is changing this outlook, there is so many difference in texture, cultural traditions and ceremonies that tie back to hair. Stay blessed Chime xo
To the person with the condescending comment on black hair and black women empowerment (can't remember the username) how are you gonna make such a racist reply to me and then block me so I can't defend myself? And you just proved my point on why I find your comment about black women needing to have natural hair so phony and condescending. I'm even more disgusted by you.
***** Thank you! There will be more videos similar to this to come. I just didn't know if people would want to see videos like this...I second guess myself all the time. I guess this is just a lesson to never doubt whatever God places in your heart to do.
I'm. Not black but it was still a cool video to watch. I love hair. And there hair was so beeautiful. Its so funny how people tried to make them less attractive with a head scarf because white women were jealous but men found them attraactive anyways. Love that.
my goodness our people are so beautiful! Looking at the pictures from the 15th century to now it's just mind blowing! The best video I've seen in a long time!
Wow these white folks had to put as in a human zoo, wondering every day the beauty of an African woman ,full lips, hips, Titis the afrohair. And after tell us how it's not appropriate 😐🤔am happy for this video 🙂😍😂😂 love my melanin ❤❤❤
"Remove the kinks from your mind not your hair" Very good quote but sadly many black women will not hear that, they still think that kinky hair is not attractive and will still let the European characteristic rule them by wearing these ridiculous wigs and weave and also relaxers all damaging to the hair and scalp and causing baldness. I see a more black woman wearing weave and wigs then not and and if they are not wearing those hair pieces then they have their heads wrapped up like the Louisiana laws in 1789 but it does not look nice, they all look more like mammy from the movie Gone with the Wind and I very rarely see a black women who's hair is not chemically straightened. Black women NEED to do away with the weave (including weaved in braids) and wigs and relaxers and stop patronizing and making these Koreans rich like how I also saw in this video. Brazilian and Yaki hair is NOT black hair CARE. I do not see the racial pride in hair taken with black women like how this video says it is, it is very few and far between.
***** LOL, look. Weave can be damaging to the hair, if you CONSTANTLY wear them. But they CAN be used as a protective style, and you shouldn't be so ignorant as to bash someone for what they choose to put on their head. Its none of your business. You must've not read what i said because with everyday styling you can damage your hair just as much as "wearing weave" you can care for your hair under the weave and care for the weave as well. There are plenty of women, including myself who have long hair who wear weave just because its easier to deal with, and it grows your hair out. Stop being a natural hair Nazi, it isnt pretty.
"There are plenty of women, including myself who have long hair who wear weave just because its easier to deal with, and it grows your hair out. " I know that you are pretty young but you need to get educated and no go along with what a lot of ignorant people say. How is weave easier to deal with when number one its expensive, and you have to be careful when it is in and Heaven forbid you get in a fight and it gets pulled out along with your natural hair and you cant get your head fully washed with it in? Hell I see that weave wearers cant even scratch their head with it in they have to pat it smh. Weave does not grow your hair out, good nutrition and not putting wear and tear on it like weave and chemicals grows it out. And and am not bashing anyone, if you want to risk going bald that is perfectly your right to do and I will not try to stop you ok lo! Just like what my opening statement says, people like you do not want anyone telling you that wearing your natural hair looks a lot better and is a lot better for you dermatology wise, you want to wear some hair that is not your texture because you don't want anyone to see your real hair because you have no racial pride and want to look as European as you can. You have a nice rest of the day alright.
***** As a natural I can personally say my hair has grown WAY more with weaves and extensions properly installed than it has having my hair out. Low maintenance styles are GREAT for our hair textures. It's not up to you to decide whats right for everyone. Yes I think we should embrace our hair, but choosing styles that makes our hair easier to maintain is NOT hating ourselves or wrong and not everyone who wears weaves will go bald lol. Thats such an ignorant assumption to make. You can properly care for your hair in a variety of styles INCLUDING weaves. We shouldn't even have to debate this. We are beautiful no matter what we personally choose to do with our hair. How about instead of bashing a black woman for what she chooses to do with her hair try uplifting them. Not everyone who wears weaves are ashamed of their hair or want to look European. I wear weaves and I LOVE my natural kinky hair but when I wear it out every single day even if I properly care for it it tends to be less healthy than when I wear my braids, twists, sew ins etc. We have so much variety and what works for some does not work for others so you can not base every black womans choices on your own experience and say because it may not work for you it must be that way for us all. Some styles that damages some can be just fine for others. Just let us be free to do what we want with our hair... we've had people telling us for centuries. Let us be free to do WHATEVER we want with whats ours.
MikeandRere " Low maintenance styles are GREAT for our hair textures." Uh weave is not low maintenance, it costs a lot I see and it takes a while to tie it into ones head and like I said one cant not wash their hair thoroughly or even scratch their head, that is not what one with common sense would call low maintenance. You think that it is low maintenance because it is strait because you have that thought that strait hair is better and easier. Once again I am not bashing, you wear your weave all you want, you just validate what I said earlier about black woman not wanting to hear that they need to leave their natural God given hair alone and stop burning it with chemicals and covering it up with these silly wigs and weaves which most can tell that they have fake hair because it does not even look natural on them. **NEWSFLASH** One can make low maintenance hairstyles with their own hair. " my hair has grown WAY more with weaves and extensions properly installed than it has having my hair out." Whatever lo! That is why we see more black men with natural long hair then black women, why is that?? because I know that their hair isn't long because of wearing weave and extensions. smh You are free to do what you wish with your hair though.
***** I am failing to see what your comment was about. There is a purpose of why God made white people just as much as his purpose for every other kind of people.
Wonderful, beautiful, informative video!! The images are amazing!! I have always been amazed at the creativity of black women when it comes to hairstyling; now I know that creativity has always been there--it's in the genes!!! Black women have always "slayed that hair"! Thanks again for the video.
Thank you for making this video. I been struggling to stay natural for a little over 3 years now. Seeing videos like this motivates me to accept my hair more and more.
I can only imagine the amount of time you spent on this video, from the research to the editing of the video. Thank you for the hard work, Chime. I only knew the African part of our "Hair"story. Big LOL at the tignon law haha.
I commend and applaud you with a standing ovation. This is what the natural hair movement should be about. Not curl patterns and lengths. It's about pride in who we are abound knowledge of our history. THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST NATURAL HAIR VIDEO I HAVE EVER SEEN ON UA-cam!!!! Kudos to you Ms. Chime!!! YOU DID THAT!!!!!!! GOD BLESS AND THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VID!!!
I absolutely hated my hair as a until half a year ago, but videos just like yours have me loving it like crazy. 4C Kinky hair defying gravity, but also 4C kinky hair defying all the bullshit people say about African hair. Thank you for making these videos, I absolutely love every single one of them!! ❤️❤️❤️
Love this vid.... When I read the book "Hair Story" a couple years ago (around the time I started growing out my relaxer) I was so amazed. I figured something like all of this was the case, but when I got to see the actual images (like the ones you are showing too!) It blew my mind. Suddenly I realized that everything that went into grooming my hair was a labor of love handed down to my by some woman who generations ago sat with her people and did the same thing. Now when I'm washing my hair with Rhassoul clay, I think of the Africans who used clays and muds in their hair. When I braid or twist, I think of the different ways different cultures of my ancestors did their hair. It actually made me feel a little emotional to think of all we lost and of all we are finding. Thanks for posting... the more positive beautiful images of our hair and history, the better!
Black hair/hairstyles definitely are way more than being "just hair" thank you for educating! I admire the courage and grace that run through you from your ancestors. Stay safe!
Chime. Thank you so much for posting this. Alot of people need to see this. You did an excellent job covering our hair history, even though you said you couldn't get around to everything I feel like you did. Alot of people don't realize how much our hair actually means to us. And that there was actually a law preventing us from wearing it out in public. I just want to freaking hug you for making this video. You are AWESOME 👍👍👍👍😊
Love this video. Thank you for this. The Zoo display part really angered me and made me tear up, but I was yet empowered because we remained beautiful , attractive and will forever be unable to be ignored!
This is why I love my Nigerian culture and being a black women!! Black women are truly beautiful, inside and out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And most of all, I'm proud that I am black woman with fantastic roots!
This is great, I love this video!! Many don't know that the only reason black hair became considered "ugly and unruly" is because white people were jealous of it. But now we've embraced it and rather than deeming it ugly, some are even trying to copy it! Thanks for helping empower and spread awareness about an important black identity topic!
I truly thank you for taking the time to make this video, I always had an understanding of the whole good hair, bad hair thing, but this filled in a lot of blanks. I remember when I was little I had an aunt that would say my hair felt like plastic baby doll hair after the doll has been left at the bottom of the toy chest, I grew up hating my hair wishing it was soft and curly. Even now as a grown 27 year old woman I fall back into the feeling of if only my hair where straight, but I'm learning how to care for my natural hair, and it saddens me that I have to learn to love my god given hair, I should have always loved it and embraced it, but it's now something I have to learn for myself that I was never taught.
This was such an amazing video Chime, many people do not truly know the history or origins of Black Hair. This ignorance, especially within our own community, allows us to be stripped of the pride other races have for their cultural roots. Thank you so much gorgeous!
OMG Yaaasss!!!! this was so great and very informative! I definitely felt a sense of pride while watching this! There is so much information that is unknown to most of us and it sheds light on why our Black culture here in america is the way that it is. It feels good to see evidence that directly relates our cultural trends to africa! Though they tried to wipe our ancestors of our culture the connection is still visible!
Wow! This is most diffidently an eye opener, I love being natural and I wouldn't change it for NOTHING in the world. I've been natural going on 3yrs now and I think being natural is so much easier than relaxing your hair every chance you get.
I loved this video so much. My mom went by herself without checking with my dad and relaxed my hair when I was in the first grade. My dad was furious. I didn't know what she was doing, as she was always in my hair playing in it. My stepmom and sister are natural and I have been begging my step mom for so long to let me go natural. The versatility of kinky, curly, and coily hair has always intrigued me. She let me transition and I have been transitioning for about 7-8 months now and this video made me even more excited to embrace my natural hair. Thank you.
I was thinking, since it's so much information on the history of our hair, how about you do a "Did You Know" OR " Hair from the Past" Video Clips once a month? I think it would be something to look forward to every month. Just throwing an idea out there :)
Chime Edwards this was awesome. I love it. I was just talking about traditional African customs with my husband and friends a couple days ago specifically African Art history. Historic Aftican art highlights women more often than men, where you could tell that women and fertility were held at a really high regard. Once slavery occurred that ideology was lost where Africans adopted colonial veiws (white) which was a more demeaning perception of women. This is why a lot of black men are so disrespectful to black women today, but historically that is not how we originated :)
Love this video, Chime! I didn't know that black women were forced to cover their hair back then.. & to this day we all still look beautiful rockin' our head wraps and turbans!
Absolutely wonderful!!! So many of our young black sistas need to view your brief but deeply imformative video. Thank you for sharing what you have researched; yes our hair has been very important to our race dating back many years. A warm feeling comes over me knowing we are transitioning back to our roots. I also encourage the break down of our skin complexion barriers, because as one young lady shared we have to embrace all textures of hair and I'll add embrace all of our different skin tones. WE ARE BEAUTIFUL SISTAS, IN ANY & EVERY TONE...GOD BLESS!
Thank you for creating this video. I shared it with my high school students and they loved the the potent info! They were never aware of the dynamics with African hairstyles over the centuries. Dopeness!
No one realise's the concept of the video how our ancestors has to fight so much for their hair. First we got physical abused and now that we are free from slavery were getting mentally abused to think our hair is not beautiful. I don't see why black woman would rather every hair rather than their own when it's so versatile 😐 especially nowadays. I think black hair is the most versatile hair ever. No other ethnicity has an Afro or can produce different kinks and curls It's either straight or curly. To be honest in this generation black people are a slave to themselves not even to the white people because we're free now it's only black people that can get out that slavery mentality and show society that this is us and we're beautiful xx love this video x
you know what love about being black (well mixed but 75% black)? all hairstyles are accepted in our community. you wear weave? awesome! it looks amazing in you you would so suit ombre girl! you wear dreads? work it, give em them chill ass vibes! braids/cornrows? you look good asf! we all do we are black and fuckin proud
Hands down THE BEST VIDEO on black hair history I have come across on the YT thus far. Thank you for educating. All though there were lots of negative stuff like slavery and the inhuman conditions they lived and died in, I still felt proud. I've gotten even more understanding on this natural hair thing. We've come so far, I ain't ever going back to the creamy crack. Thank you so much. Really really really enjoyed it.
Yes I'm West African (Nigerian) and proud!!! This put a big smile on my face lol. Thank you Chime Edwards for making this video. I learned some more things about my culture. 😊
Thank goodness for your willingness to teach me the history of hair that I simply saw in pictures but didn't know it was real hair. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!
“The kinks, the dance, the prints in all the shirts My grandmother told my Mama that it's Africa at work” y’all hold the power and influence, this video educated me on things i never knew and now am glad to know:-)
I loved this Chime..it was very informative and I learned some things about our history in the process. It made me even more proud to be natural. Thanks for sharing!
Wow! We are so strong! I know a lot of things got lost in our culture but a lot of things didn't! I am going to make it back to the home land one day! Very good video! Def sharing this!
Sister, you BETTER school us! I knew that the radical shaving of our hair originated from enslavement, thank you for confirming it with this beautiful presentation! That was beautiful! Thank you so much, this is a gem!! **starts sharing uncontrollably**
Omg Chime! Brilliant job on this video and thank you so much for making it. We needed to see this. I hope Chris Rock makes a sequel to "good hair" and make it about black hair. This is one of my fave video. This makes me even more proud to be black and be a black women!
Please share with a friend. As cliche as it sounds, knowledge truly is power. Love yourself and love your hair! (I realize the voiceover is way too fast! This was my very first documentary style video. I got the hang of it now!)

+Chime (HairCrush) Wow, this taught me a lot! Awesome vid!! :) also what is the song you played at the end?
And people in our community say "it's just hair", but not to our ancestors, it was their identity. It was adorned and treasured.
I think Evan now adays our hair is still vary import end to black people especially black women with the natural movement going on. jenntopp1 You are so right!
now I see why my grandmother became offended when I cut off MY hair
Our skin absorbs sunlight, Our hair defies gravity.
+d.L.c. carroll So true

I just LOOOOOVE the part where they were told to cover up their hair thinking it would make them less eye catching yet they still slayed like we black girls always do

"Black people can't grow long hair," turns out they made them shave it off! Wow truly enlightened in our history
Non black people, and white people especially, this right here is why our hair is not JUST hair. Awesome video.
A black woman's hair is her glory. According to the scriptures!!! ✊🏾🌍
Black women are so gorgeous. I love everything about them😍😍. Shame on people who think otherwise
Now this needs to be in our history books in school. Like ASAP!

I'm not black but I think black hair is so beautiful. Love watching it be styled, It's such amazing hair x
Wow , this video needs to be shown to every single woman who believes their natural hair is ''disgusting'' or ''unnprofessional''
I live in South Africa and women with natural hair are surprisingly quite rare , luckily my mother taught me the beauty and importance of my crown at a young age .
Thank you for this video
I'm so glad you shared the "tignon laws" Knowing that our hair was too fly, that laws had to made against it??? And yet we still stunted on em,haha
I'm white and I think it's NECESSARY to educate myself
This is why when people say that slavery doesn't affect black people today you should call them a damn lie. Without the knowledge of our history, we're basically bootleg Europeans.
Thanks soooooo much for making this. Best video I've watched all year
Sway Low Cool. You're welcome

Ok I started crying in the human zoos part

The history of Black hair: I'm amazed by the variety of styles
We as a People, particularly Black women are absolutely exquisite
Oh my goodness, I loved this video so much
This is so amazing great to know that my locks relate to my culture
best video done so far by ANY hair guru
It is! I'm gonna share it!
awkwardletter95
ikr?! i already did!!!!!
I'm biracial and I just love my black part. Thanks for the video!
To the person with the condescending comment on black hair and black women empowerment (can't remember the username) how are you gonna make such a racist reply to me and then block me so I can't defend myself? And you just proved my point on why I find your comment about black women needing to have natural hair so phony and condescending. I'm even more disgusted by you.
that is what slores do. I was blocked by a racist fool when I called them out...
I just shared this with my Mom and how can anyone dislike this video. That show jealous hate still existing. sad sad sad.
This was VERY GOOD! Please do a part 2, 3, 4 and 5 :) Very Inspiring!
Agreed!👍👍👍👍👍👍
***** Thank you! There will be more videos similar to this to come. I just didn't know if people would want to see videos like this...I second guess myself all the time. I guess this is just a lesson to never doubt whatever God places in your heart to do.
I'm. Not black but it was still a cool video to watch. I love hair. And there hair was so beeautiful. Its so funny how people tried to make them less attractive with a head scarf because white women were jealous but men found them attraactive anyways. Love that.
I really like this video
Rukia Niles :)
my goodness our people are so beautiful! Looking at the pictures from the 15th century to now it's just mind blowing! The best video I've seen in a long time!
Eat The Plant :)
I know this had to take a ton of effort, thank you for this, Chime. This video is very informal and is what a lot of people need to watch.
***** Girl it did lol but it was sooo worth it. I'm glad everyone is liking it and sharing. Our history is so important
Black hair is CREATIVELY beautiful!!!!!
2:47 you can't outdo black people!! we gon' find a way, make a way.
curlykiki Lol Our ingenuity is incredible
Wow these white folks had to put as in a human zoo, wondering every day the beauty of an African woman ,full lips, hips, Titis the afrohair. And after tell us how it's not appropriate 😐🤔am happy for this video 🙂😍😂😂 love my melanin ❤❤❤
Glad too see a African Woman acknowledging her culture and history
"Remove the kinks from your mind not your hair"
Very good quote but sadly many black women will not hear that, they still think that kinky hair is not attractive and will still let the European characteristic rule them by wearing these ridiculous wigs and weave and also relaxers all damaging to the hair and scalp and causing baldness.
I know that you are pretty young but you need to get educated and no go along with what a lot of ignorant people say.
MikeandRere " Low maintenance styles are GREAT for our hair textures."
Uh weave is not low maintenance, it costs a lot I see and it takes a while to tie it into ones head and like I said one cant not wash their hair thoroughly or even scratch their head, that is not what one with common sense would call low maintenance.
" my hair has grown WAY more with weaves and extensions properly installed than it has having my hair out."
Whatever lo! That is why we see more black men with natural long hair then black women, why is that?? because I know that their hair isn't long because of wearing weave and extensions. smh
You are free to do what you wish with your hair though.
Gwendolyn Bien-Aime Lol Yup. You're welcome
I KNOW! We invented more than what the white man says....a lot of the slaves invented things that the owner took credit for!!!
Thank you for making this video. I been struggling to stay natural for a little over 3 years now. Seeing videos like this motivates me to accept my hair more and more.
kucakekia Yes! That's so great girl!
Just what my morning needed! Thanks Chime!!!
Yaya Winnings Awesome! I love your name:)
I absolutely loved this!
This is why I love my Nigerian culture and being a black women!! Black women are truly beautiful, inside and out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And most of all, I'm proud that I am black woman with fantastic roots!
Ashley Onwuzuruike You're a black woman not a black women XD
Thank you.
I was almost in tears. i've been transitioning for a few months now, can't wait till i'm fully natural. oh and new subbie :)
I was thinking, since it's so much information on the history of our hair, how about you do a "Did You Know" OR " Hair from the Past" Video Clips once a month? I think it would be something to look forward to every month. Just throwing an idea out there :)
Great idea!
I would love that great idea
Naomi Bonneau That is a super DOPE idea! Thanks Naomi!!
You're very welcome Chime! And no, Thank Yooou for the "Our Hair History" video. You just Keep'em coming and I'll continue supporting ;-)
What a coincidence that *today* a lot of girls want big thick lips thick eyebrows curly hair oct
This was so beautiful and I touched my heart to see someone explain the history of our hair and support our culture
ahh being black is such a adorement our hair is so unique and beautifullllllllll
This is why a lot of black men are so disrespectful to black women today, but historically that is not how we originated :)
black women find a way I'm telling y'all
Love this video, Chime! I didn't know that black women were forced to cover their hair back then.. & to this day we all still look beautiful rockin' our head wraps and turbans!
Wow. I never knew there was a law that required black women to keep their hair covered!!!!!!!!!
This really literally deserves a round of applause. 👏👏
A part two would be greatly appreciated 😩🙌🏾💪🏾 Thank you soo much for this!
So impressed with this video. Now this is the kind of information that should be made into a documentary. Thanks for compiling and sharing :)
Best video i have truly seen on youtube. Very powerful
Same im trying to find some books on our hair history now
Yes I'm West African (Nigerian) and proud!!! This put a big smile on my face lol. Thank you Chime Edwards for making this video. I learned some more things about my culture. 😊
No matter what you do to black people, they're always beautiful. But this makes me sick, seriously. I cry every time I see videos with our history
This made me so proud on so many levels 😪👏🏾👏🏿👏🏽
I found a link to this video on the I Love Being Black Facebook page.... What a blessing! Sista I humbly salute you.
Thank goodness for your willingness to teach me the history of hair that I simply saw in pictures but didn't know it was real hair. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!
“The kinks, the dance, the prints in all the shirts
My grandmother told my Mama that it's Africa at work”
y’all hold the power and influence, this video educated me on things i never knew and now am glad to know:-)
I LOVE AND RESPECT YOU FOR THIS....I WILL SPREAD THIS AROUND AS MUCH AS I CAN.....THANK YOU CHIME
This is simply wonderful...education is the first step to understanding black hair. Well done
I loved this Chime..it was very informative and I learned some things about our history in the process. It made me even more proud to be natural. Thanks for sharing!
This right here, was beautifully educational and enriching. Loved it Chime.
Love it CHIME also thanks for encouraging me to watch GOOD HAIR and learn more about my natural hair and weaves.
Wow! We are so strong! I know a lot of things got lost in our culture but a lot of things didn't! I am going to make it back to the home land one day! Very good video! Def sharing this!
Beautiful work, Chime!!! I'm definitely sharing this!!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this! It was absolutely brilliant (:
Sister, you BETTER school us! I knew that the radical shaving of our hair originated from enslavement, thank you for confirming it with this beautiful presentation! That was beautiful! Thank you so much, this is a gem!!
**starts sharing uncontrollably**
Chime, thank you for taking the time to educate us on black hair.
This is an amazing video! You did a great job! Thanks so much!
Charly! Hi 🙈🌻 love your channel and your last video.
charlycheer Thanx Charly!
Omg Chime! Brilliant job on this video and thank you so much for making it. We needed to see this. I hope Chris Rock makes a sequel to "good hair" and make it about black hair. This is one of my fave video. This makes me even more proud to be black and be a black women!
