A little tid bit I learnt about megaman 2, one of the most beloved platformer, is that it wasn't even supposed to be made, and the team made it with love in their spare time from making other games while also having a schedule, those devs are the reason we have such a great franchise, absolute respect
One little factoid I know about the game is most of the tracks the composer wrote for it were rejected due to sounding too bright and cartoonish. Composer Takashi Tateishi had to rewrite most of it. Only one track from that original score made it into the final game, and that’s Crash Man’s stage.
People can say what they like about Nintendo, but they have a hell of a track record when it comes to gaming companies and I'll be a Nintendo fan until the day I shuffle off this mortal coil
When the GameCube came out, my friend described it as a good second console for someone to have. And I’ve realized since then that Nintendo’s MO was to never really compete with PlayStation or XBox or even PC, but to be something to have in addition to those consoles. After all, the SNES was the last Nintendo console to be the most powerful of its generation. They left the power war to Sony and Microsoft to duke it out. The Switch in particular brilliantly combined this strategy with that of their stranglehold on the handheld market. One of the advantages of a less powerful console is games are cheaper to produce. I would imagine Super Mario Wonder having a fraction of the development budget as any AAA title on PS5.
As someone who started gaming in the 80s (we didn't have a NES but my cousin did) and a big Nintendo fan, I really enjoyed this video, a nice pre Christmas trip down memory lane, plus a reminder of a few gaps in my personal gaming history that really need filling. Cheers and Merry Christmas
Pokemon legends Arceus should've been the one for 2022. There's a point to catching multiple of the same pokemon. There's a point to diversifying your team.
The best of Nintendo 1983-2024 I’ve seen and have all from 1980-Now I have every console and tons of games what a life of gaming throughout the decades
As a diehard Zelda fan for the last 25+ years I tried so, SO hard to like Echoes of Wisdom. I finally had to put it down after 20 hours because I just wasn't having any fun while playing it. I'm not saying it's a bad game, though; it's just... not made for people like me. To me the whole core mechanic made tasks that should have been easy incredibly tedious and clunky, and I was bored to tears just standing around and waiting for my echoes to fight for me. I just found myself constantly longing to pull out a sword and do the job myself just so I could _move on._ I enjoy the combat in BotW/TotK and that just did NOT mesh with Echoes. Again, it's not an objectively bad game in the slightest and I'm glad so many people enjoyed it so much. It just wasn't a good game for me and my personal tastes.
Yeah, I had a really tough time with a few years. I figured shouting out Mega Man was worth it for variety over another Mario entry, but there's no denying that Mario Bros 3 defines the NES for many people! - Psy
I didn't take to Super Metroid. I found the controls aggravatingly twitchy, the atmosphere one-note, and any sense of urgency driven by some questionable layouts. Give me DK '94 any day.
Mega Man 2 took that slot. The funny thing is Psy calls out how Mega Man 2 proved that “more of the same, but perfected” is the right strategy for a video game sequal (after oddball sequels like Castlevania 2, Link’s Awakening, and SMB 2), but SMB 3 also took that “more of the same, but perfected” approach. Personally, Mega Man 2 is my favorite game of all time, but SMB3 may be more deserving of the spot. (Except for music. As good as SMB3’s score is, it doesn’t hold a candle to MM2’s.)
We have PlayStation and Xbox ones on the channel (the PS one is also linked in the endboard of this video if that's easier)! Sega would be cool, huh 👀 - Psy
Nothing about Megaman X? I guess it was a great game but not really revolutionary. But Pokemon Gen 2 also didn't make the list? Gen 1 may have started it but Gen 2 solidified Pokemania. And Pokemon continues to this day to make money for Nintendo hand over fist.

REALLY? That's my fav childhood game and didn't know that, thanks for sharing

You & me both, brother.

2024: Luigi's Revenge

Being born in 1983: I feel old!!!
I can guarantee that you are not the oldest in the comments section 😂

I can't honestly even say i care about Nintendo, but apparently I'll watch just about anything this channel puts out.

Ohhh ahhh... megaman 2 > mario 3...
That is a tough call.

Super Metroid is the best game on the SNES. FFVI is 2nd.

Amazing video! Merry Christmas Eve!
Jules gill should have done this video
1994 Donkey Kong Country for sure.
1994 was one of the lowkey harder years to pick, with FF6, DKC and Super Metroid all at once! - Psy
@@WhatCultureGaming Yes, too many awesome ones.
Why didn't you pick Wink Waker for 2003?
What about Super Mario Bros 3?

Josh Brown could not care less.
I mostly game on PlayStation these days, but i still love Nintendo and they are still the GOAT
Nintendo: "What video game crash?"
I love these long format videos, keep up the great work.
Shovel Knight was most inspired by the NES Ducktales game
Just the pogo mechanism, but that’s such a major part of the game.
Glad to see ZombiU get some recognition. It had so much potential as a franchise
A HD port of Metroid Samus Returns alone this year would have satisfied me.
I love these Nintendo games of the year!
i love "grand thetf auto!"
Starfox 1993 yes yes and more yes. To me that is the beat SNES game ever.
2003 shoulda been F-zero GX
Gotta get that Grand THETF Auto game!
Loved the Wii U. So sad it flopped like it did
Yeah!!! Pokémon black and white baby!!!!
Mario party 2 was a good one
No SMB3 and no DKC???
Where's the Sony and Microsoft ones? Could we get a Sega one too 👀
We have PlayStation and Xbox ones on the channel (the PS one is also linked in the endboard of this video if that's easier)! Sega would be cool, huh 👀 - Psy

MMX was excellent, but Star Fox was truly revolutionary. MMX has aged much better though.
The “campaign” in Smash Ultimate is not very good…
OcarinA not ocarinER 🤦🏻♂️
How did xenoblade chronicles X not make the list???
Omg he died??
Shovel Knight was stiff as hell to control, the platforming had already been done better in DuckTales, and to me the story landed with a dull thud.
1994 should be Final Fantasy VI not Super Metroid
There were a few years on here that were a really hard choice. 1994 with FF6 and DKC, it was STACKED! They're all winners in my heart! - Psy
@@WhatCultureGamingI know stacked year most definitely I’ve seen all from 1980-Now happy holidays
RE4 Wii > RE4 GC
You are ABSOLUTELY correct. That was my favourite version of the game until I was lucky enough to get it for the Quest 2! - Psy
Tecmo bowl. 1987
TECMO BOWL 🗣 what a game! - Psy
@WhatCultureGaming lol. I'll never forget the first time I saw it and that popcorn sound. Magic!!
