We're all around 62 or 63 now. Seems like it was only yesterday that we graduated from High School. Young people watching this.... Life is fleeting. Make wise choices and realize your mortality. You re only on this earth for a short time. Don't waste your life, make the most of it and do what is right.

Hi Elly...Thanks for your kind words. I've made my share of mistakes in life but tried to learn from them the best I could. Regarding the positive aspects of my youth, there was more freedom in those days to express individuality. If I was young today, I would try to live expectantly. Love God and others with all your heart (especially your family) and do your best to stay out of trouble (As an ex-hippie, I had good times and bad tilmes, but always learned to focus on what was good in life even though I got into trouble sometimes). Also, be yourself, express who you are and don't spend so much time using social media. (I don't have a facebook account and don't want one. I'd rather talk to people one-on -one than text my life away). Listen more to the music of my era if you can (60s and early 1970s). You will learn from it. Don't allow yourself to become bitter or unforgiving over things you can't change in life. You will only hurt yourself. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Be gentle, courteous and kind to all. Remember, you have a purpose for living on this earth and your whole life lies ahead of you. Be transparent, live in love and shine your light.. And yess the beatles are one of my favourite bands (mostly thanks to my dad) and I am in love with the whole disco/ hippie movement of the 70s. Not to mention the amazing advances in filmography and technology you witnessed. I know I’m romanticising the previous decades, and should feel more fortunate to live in probably the least racist, homophobic, sexist society to date. But while I know I’m young I just can’t help feeling like I’m not making the most of my life! But anyways, just nice to rant to someone on here because my mum just sighs at me whenever I bring it up, and for some reason seems reluctant to tell me anything about her younger days!! @@posysdogovych2065 The things I miss most are NO cell phones, No car horns all the time, when people read newspapers and made all people seem smarter, I could live without internet as well as many other things. Things about the world today. Middle class Americans are disappearing as many factory jobs are gone, Too many TV channels and internet so very few people have things in common. Music today that some that people play loud would never have been back then. people today are less creative. Children DO NOT play outside like they use to. There is a long list here too.
I go to this school now. Looks totally different, the high school is still there and it looks the same, but the field where everyone was sitting now contains a middle school quad and a middle school.
I know what you mean. I just turned 30 years old, and even though I was a kid in the 1990s, I get sad when I see high school videos in the 1990s, as if I were a teenager back then. It happens a little bit in these 1970s videos, but not as much as 1990s, and early 2000s videos.
There's something about a moment captured in time. It's fascinating and enchanting. Puts into perspective our mortality and how short our time here is. If there's anything I've learnt it's that tomorrow always comes. So be patient for the things you want and be active in the things you want to do or achieve. Because before you know it, 2 years go by. Then 5. A decade is long - but not at all at the same time. At the end of the day, you're always able to look back and be astonished how fast it all went.

One thing I really noticed is that there were a bunch of kids, making their own fun, enjoying themselves, and the joy shined through. They weren't relying on adults to supervise them or tell them what to do and not do. Those are the days I remember. As you progressed from elementary school, to jr high to sr high, you got more freedom, more responsibility, and grew up. I graduated in the late 70's but enjoyed living in those times.
I'm now a senior in high school. This video makes me kinda sad somehow. Because of certain circumstances, I have not gotten the "classic" high school experience. No friends, no fun stuff. One day, I'm gonna be like those people in this video. Just a fleeting moment then I'm old and gone.

@@thotpatroller7892 It did! but here was the conundrum:If you could afford the "top end" 8mm system that had sound, you could afford a "just OK" 16 mm system which gave you not only sound but better quality picture. and the sound was not great While If your name was Kennedy or Rockefeller you had sound film home movies that far back, Joe Blow had to wait till the late 1970s. The first VCRs had sound but the very early ones could record color off the TV, but the first Cameras were B&W The first color cameras for VHS recorders were around 1977 or 1978 were not really portable and did not have that great picture quality. The sound was mono and left plenty to be desired. Even local TV stations were just starting to transition from film to video tape for local news.
Wow, my mother wasn’t even born she was born 3 years later. I was born in 2000.. so I grew up in a different time. These people look so free and look like they’re having fun! We couldn’t even go near the exits at school without being accused of trying to skip school. I had always wanted to go outside for lunch and eat and just lay in the sun. Everyone in this video is interacting with each other, they’re not texting, they are simply having fun! When I was a freshmen in high school, I would go to the library and in this certain section we had all the yearbooks dating back to the 1890s with news clippings of our city. I loved looking at them, I would look at yearbooks from every year and looked at every student... knowing that they were so close to my age at that moment when that picture was taken was wild to think of! They grew up in a different time, lived different lives, listened to different music. I wish I could go back in time and experience a day in the 60s or 70s. I remember at my school, during your senior they have a tradition called Class Day where all seniors get recognized for their achievements in their high school career. I remember we had been paired up with the Class of 1968 because it had been their 50 year reunion. It was like they were there to help us move forward to graduation.. it dawned on me 50 years in the future we are going to be in those chairs, reminiscing of our old good days and the music we listened to, the drama that occurred. All the people in this video have lived their lives and probably have families now.. but in this video they were full of youth and energy. Thank you for this upload :)

Cool video, I'm not from Irvington or from the 70s, but I love watching archive videos. Its cool to see how life was a year before my dad graduated high school, the only thing different now is the fashion (though still casual) and the fact that now everyone is on their phones :(
That was about the time talks got serious about breaking up the Bell System and letting some of the independent companies have access to Bell System technology so you could dial your own collect calls and possibly international calls

Me too, i am very bored and dissapointed with the current culture, i deleted facebook and all other social media 7 years ago when i graduated highschool. I didn't have a very fun highschool experience, i went to a big school and it was boring, the people were more connected in the 60s, 70s, 80's.
Looked like there were some cool teachers. I loved the guy who was doing air sculpture. Must have been the art teacher. He looked like a real funny guy.
But there was recently that video of a student filming themselves calling their teachers by their first name where the teachers acted funny when being filmed. That literally did happen now.
its all a matter of the teacher itself. some are really cool, down-to-earth people, but some (if not most) are jaded and cynical people who are only in it for the money.
I graduated in '73 from a small high school in rural Pennsylvania. Watching this felt so familiar. I turned off the soundtrack because I just wanted to have the visual experience. Loved the parade of teachers exiting the school at day's end. There were quite a few young teachers, it must have been a lot of fun to attend. Incidentally, I just retired from teaching in a high school for 37 years. It's been quite a run and from attending to later teaching in a high school, it was a great experience. Are kids different today? Yes and no. They look a lot different than we did, phones are both a blessing and a curse, and parents are a hell of a lot different. But 15-18 year olds still have some of the same delusions and doubts we had in '73. In general, I'm probably happier now than I was then. Thanks so much for uploading this.
Oh how my heart pines for the world we left behind. I was born in 1980 , most of my life was experienced through this particular perspective of the world. The innocence in these teenagers, and their confidence that a world just and righteous was waiting to accept them on their own terms was a big part of my reality as well. Where the hell did our world slip away to, and who agreed to let it go? The people I grew up with was far from perfect, we had our differences, made so many mistakes, loved each other passionately, trusted one another, respectfully supported each other’s thoughts even when we disagreed, we defended anyone who was unable to do so for themselves, if one of us needed a helping hand there was always a smiling face willing to come to our aid, sure we fought and argued as well but at the end of the day there was few grudges. We understood that part of our humanity was rooted in the necessity to humble oneself as an individual. Noone can agree with 100 percent of the people 100 percent of the of the time. Knowing now that the institutional paradigms we once held so dear are part of an agenda engineered to divide each of us has allowed mistrust and a high level negativity to effect our daily lives. It would see now more than ever that the future for our species is a bleak one and hope fades away , riding as it where a ticket out of town along the very shattered lines that continues to polarize the western society. Will we ever get back to that place called home??? Thanks for the share!!
Everything was different then. People interacted with each other, people were much more civilized and had more fun. Such a shame to watch things change through the years.
these same schools in NY state are now crime ridden war zones of drugs and crime and hatred and isolation ...always in the news for shootings and cars now plunging into kids on campus

I was born in the 90s but I can't get enough of the 60s to the 80s. There is something so intoxicating about watching these times. It seems so surreal.
I was born in 1991 I turn 30 soon and I already feel how fast time flies, another 30 years I'll be where these people are now in my 60's and I know it's coming fast.
I started preschool that fall of ‘73 here in Indiana. Even though I was only four at the time, my memory of that year is still quite clear. Even with all the bad, it was an easier time. Many memories that as a kid you don’t forget. Still in Indiana, same town, but I’ll be 51 next month. Yes, time is fleeting.
Sweet to find this; I graduated from Scarsdale H.S. (about 7 miles away) in '72 so this is like watching my yearbook pics come alive. To those commenting "these people are all old now" remember age is relative: some of us definitely seem old at 67, others are doing well, though we all recognize there is less road ahead than behind. Irvington NY has definitely grown since then, though still a lovely, unpretentious town on the Hudson, despite its relative affluence. Shout out to Red Barn Bakery, Red Hat on the Hudson, and the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail.
i was only 5 in 1973 and i grew up in L.A. opposite coast from this but when i watch this old footage i never get over how thin everybody was back then! i thought nothing of it at the time.

This was about a decade before they really started to mess with the food we eat. Everyone on this video is so healthy looking, even the dorks. Testosterone levels were normal then and men were normally masculine. Cancer was such a rarity. I was four years old at this time. Nice to see all those beautiful people I used to look up to again, in a way.

Not a fat kid in sight, the thing about the 70's was, we were all searching, and in large part, finally had the freedom to do so. After the rebellious attitude of the psychedelic 60's I really think society just decided to let the kids do their thing, and hope for the best.
This was a kind of strange time. Just before the VCR came down to consumer price points. Super 8 film ha just gotten sound. most people coul not really afford to invest in anything beyond regular 8mm

Me too, i am very bored and dissapointed with the current culture, i deleted facebook and all other social media 7 years ago when i graduated highschool. I didn't have a very fun highschool experience, i went to a big school and it was boring, the people were more connected in the 60s, 70s, 80's.

The two girls dancing on the grass were so cute and looked like they were really having fun. Adorable.
Looked like there were some cool teachers. I loved the guy who was doing air sculpture. Must have been the art teacher. He looked like a real funny guy.

But there was recently that video of a student filming themselves calling their teachers by their first name where the teachers acted funny when being filmed. That literally did happen now.
its all a matter of the teacher itself. some are really cool, down-to-earth people, but some (if not most) are jaded and cynical people who are only in it for the money.

I graduated in '73 from a small high school in rural Pennsylvania. Watching this felt so familiar. I turned off the soundtrack because I just wanted to have the visual experience. Loved the parade of teachers exiting the school at day's end. There were quite a few young teachers, it must have been a lot of fun to attend. Incidentally, I just retired from teaching in a high school for 37 years. It's been quite a run and from attending to later teaching in a high school, it was a great experience. Are kids different today? Yes and no. They look a lot different than we did, phones are both a blessing and a curse, and parents are a hell of a lot different. But 15-18 year olds still have some of the same delusions and doubts we had in '73. In general, I'm probably happier now than I was then. Thanks so much for uploading this.

Oh how my heart pines for the world we left behind. I was born in 1980 , most of my life was experienced through this particular perspective of the world. The innocence in these teenagers, and their confidence that a world just and righteous was waiting to accept them on their own terms was a big part of my reality as well. Where the hell did our world slip away to, and who agreed to let it go? The people I grew up with was far from perfect, we had our differences, made so many mistakes, loved each other passionately, trusted one another, respectfully supported each other’s thoughts even when we disagreed, we defended anyone who was unable to do so for themselves, if one of us needed a helping hand there was always a smiling face willing to come to our aid, sure we fought and argued as well but at the end of the day there was few grudges. We understood that part of our humanity was rooted in the necessity to humble oneself as an individual. Noone can agree with 100 percent of the people 100 percent of the of the time. Knowing now that the institutional paradigms we once held so dear are part of an agenda engineered to divide each of us has allowed mistrust and a high level negativity to effect our daily lives. It would see now more than ever that the future for our species is a bleak one and hope fades away , riding as it where a ticket out of town along the very shattered lines that continues to polarize the western society. Will we ever get back to that place called home??? Thanks for the share!!

Everything was different then. People interacted with each other, people were much more civilized and had more fun. Such a shame to watch things change through the years.
these same schools in NY state are now crime ridden war zones of drugs and crime and hatred and isolation ...always in the news for shootings and cars now plunging into kids on campus

I was born in 1991 I turn 30 soon and I already feel how fast time flies, another 30 years I'll be where these people are now in my 60's and I know it's coming fast.

I started preschool that fall of ‘73 here in Indiana. Even though I was only four at the time, my memory of that year is still quite clear. Even with all the bad, it was an easier time. Many memories that as a kid you don’t forget. Still in Indiana, same town, but I’ll be 51 next month. Yes, time is fleeting.

Sweet to find this; I graduated from Scarsdale H.S. (about 7 miles away) in '72 so this is like watching my yearbook pics come alive. To those commenting "these people are all old now" remember age is relative: some of us definitely seem old at 67, others are doing well, though we all recognize there is less road ahead than behind. Irvington NY has definitely grown since then, though still a lovely, unpretentious town on the Hudson, despite its relative affluence. Shout out to Red Barn Bakery, Red Hat on the Hudson, and the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail.

No cell phones or book sacks, but brief cases and pipes. People seem freer and less self absorbed. I am from class of ‘77.
i was only 5 in 1973 and i grew up in L.A. opposite coast from this but when i watch this old footage i never get over how thin everybody was back then! i thought nothing of it at the time.

This was about a decade before they really started to mess with the food we eat. Everyone on this video is so healthy looking, even the dorks. Testosterone levels were normal then and men were normally masculine. Cancer was such a rarity. I was four years old at this time. Nice to see all those beautiful people I used to look up to again, in a way.

Not a fat kid in sight, the thing about the 70's was, we were all searching, and in large part, finally had the freedom to do so. After the rebellious attitude of the psychedelic 60's I really think society just decided to let the kids do their thing, and hope for the best.
