This is when dawes was the best. saw them live at the cavern in dallas. maybe when you see a band live it makes them 10 times better, but i can still listen to north hills front to back all the time and it never gets old.

They should do more acoustic stuff. This is amazing.

This is the most powerful truthful honest song I think I’ve ever heard. And it’s beautiful and I am in awe by it.

Many years later after seeing this on the tour after they released north hills and again live after stories don’t end and after hundreds of listens this song still hits different. And that’s why Dawes is the best band of the past decade. 4 consecutive albums that were immaculate and a 6th that was also amazing.

It's great songwriting but man the voice(s) and harmonies take it to the next level. All their hard work paid off..

The faster, electric version may need the loud emotion, but I don't
agree that this one needs it. This is absolutely beautiful as soft as it is.

I have become amazed by this band. The lyrics are so powerful and the music so simple, but every damn song they make gives me chills. Great music.

@Pinkbananasandbasket i agree this song needs that loud emotion to get the true beauty of it.

I think he plays an early 60's D18. They still had the tortoise shell pickguard then. ...sure sounds like one, nice!!

There were moments of dreams I was offered to save
I lived less like a workhorse, more like a slave
I thought that one quick moment that was noble or brave
Would be worth the most of my life
So I pointed my fingers and shouted few quotes I knew
As if something that's written should be taken as true
But every path I had taken and conclusion I drew
Would put truth back under the knife
And now the only piece of advice that continues to help
Is anyone that's making anything new only breaks something else
    When my time comes
    When my time comes
So I took what I wanted and put it out of my reach
I wanted to pay for my successes with all my defeats
And if Heaven was all that was promised to me
Why don't I pray for death?
Now, it seems like the unravelling started too soon
Now I'm sleeping in hallways and I'm drinking perfume
And I'm speaking to mirrors and I'm howling at moons
While the worse and the worse that it gets
Oh, you can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's starin' right back
    When my time comes
    When my time comes
Well, you can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's starin' right back
    When my time comes
    When my time comes
    When my time comes

I love this group, am so thrilled with their harmonies, and this video showcases their voices beautifully. But personally I think this one song needs Taylor's intensity when they're all out, amped up. "You can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back" - there's something missing from that line in this rendition, don't you think?

What make of acoustic is that? Looks very similar to my Simon& Patrick Luthier 12 string.
Great song, my fav is "If I wanted Someone" though.

ahem... Mein Kampf? I think the Bible has less to do with what he's talking about. As a whole it's a much more peaceful and tolerant book. There are other writings we should be quicker to judge...

I dont like it. Love Dawes, Love the song, but this is too clean for a live performance. To each his own i guess.
