The production for Mushoku Tensei is honestly insane. The sheer attention to detail and care for consistency made me fall deeply in love with it, even if Rudeus is a bit unbearable at first (now I'm invested in him as well as every other character). I feel like it should end up being remembered as an all-time classic.

  • @tsukinoyuuki6778

Rudeus was written to be a deplorable character at the beginning, so there's nothing wrong with being unable to stand his personality. He grows slowly and by the final chapter of the story ends up as a rather sympathetic character. A lot of Isekai anime protagonists are supposed to be hikineet, trash of society but never really act like it so I appreciate this part of Mushoku Tensei.

    Splendid video.
Frog-kun has done a great job writing the script so congrats Frog-kun!
There was a clear vision in it just like producer had while creating the perfect environment for this so called premium show. Everything spelled well and easy to digest to the viewer.
It taught viewers about the production of this work and how truly unique it really was. With the person mainly responsible for it loving the story so much that he considered that it has to get an anime but one that will be worth it of this brilliant tale.
The 3 O segment was something I personally didn't remember even if I recognized some of the names from interviews and whatnot but that is certainly something that I will keep an eye in the future and may refer to this as 3 Gods of Mushoku Tensei anime jokingly.
Visuals of this work and how everything moves is heavily grounded in reality despite being set in a fantasy world and in order to recreate this feeling additional work had to be done, one that was able to fully showcase the depth and beauty of this tale.
Mushoku covers variety of topics and places and in early arcs it happens quite frequenlty with Rudy visiting new landscapes and meeting others so to differentiate the places the team, background artist and those that work on it had to make it seem truly distinctive and they did.
Swordplay is one of the aspects of Mushoku that is absolutely brilliant because it is a very deep combat system and seeing it animated, while maintaining the stances and moves in reaistic way from the book is very impressive and amazing to witness.
Overall this is a very well written and produced video that tells us what Mushoku Tensei is and how its anime came to be. The people involved the cirumstances and the absolute flex that animators are doing with the passion behind it with time.
    Truly well done.

just because someone wishes for something doesn't mean they will succeed in it, becoming better is part of the hardships and unfortunately, the early stages of a series are spent learning and understanding the base of the character with background and everything, so of course at the start you may see only his perverted and manipulative side... but it's the point of the series that he'll eventually grow, and to see how much he succeeds or fails in upholding his promise to become a better person is what makes the series interesting imho.

The strength of this series is that the writing never goes out of it's way to glorify or even outright excuse Rudy's actions. Unlike a lot of other wish-fulfillment isekai. You can dislike contentious aspects of writing. There are a lot of novels and the like with deplorable depictions of humanity.
The difference is how it's presented, and for what reason/purpose. The anime could have easily been a pedo-neet's wish fulfillment dream, but it's not. I think when people criticize the anime, they only focus on that aspect, and can't see the purpose behind the writing. Ngl, when I first started Mushoku Tensei, I never expected I'd love it as much as I did. But as soon as I watched the first few minutes of the first episode, something clicked. I knew that I was in for something special. As soon as I finished the 1st cour of S1, I fell in love with the series, and then proceeded to read the light novel. After finishing both the light novel and web novel (Mushoku Tensei was the first light novel/web novel I've ever read btw), I can easily say that Mushoku Tensei is easily the best piece of fiction I've ever had the pleasure of reading, and Rudeus is not only my favorite MC of all time, but my favorite character of all time. His development is the best I've seen. Even though I already liked him at the start, despite his creepy nature, volume 7 onwards is when he truly starts to shine as a character (We've currently just reached volume 6 in the anime, which marks a major change in Rudy as a character and as a person). By volume 12, he was already in my Top 10. By volume 15, he was in my Top 3. And by the final volume of the web novel, he became my Top 1 (Just to add, I think the ending of Mushoku Tensei is the best I've seen in a series. It's just so damn satisfying, and is the perfect conclusion to Rudeus' story. When it ended, I didn't even feel sad, I just felt satisfied. No other story has ever done that for me, even some of my favorite endings like Code Geass and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood). For all those who currently dislike Rudeus' creepy attitude and nature, I think Season 2 will be when you start to REALLY like him. If Studio Bind adapts the entire series as well as they have this first season so far, Mushoku Tensei will not only go down as a classic, it could literally become one of the greatest anime of all time.

Ain't no way you can look at Rudeus from volumes 1-3 and Rudeus from volumes 7-9 and tell me that he hasn't changed at all and is still a scumbag. And although Mushoku Tensei is my first light novel (planning on reading Re:ZERO and Faraway Paladin after finishing Old Dragon's Tale), I've read a LOT of different series. Some of my favorites include Berserk, One Piece, Chainsaw Man, Monster, Vagabond, Kaguya-sama, Monogatari series, Oyasumi Punpun, Made in Abyss, Tokyo Ghoul, Fullmetal Alchemist, Code Geass and many more, all of which I think are 10/10s. @@n1h1luss61 i mean... the story does have flows in terms of writing, but yeah, rudy is not one of these, if anything, rudy is the best written part of the show, he's as real as it gets, as(maybe slightly more?) flawed as a real person, but with struggles he is conscious about and hates himself for it.
it's not an easy character to empathize with, and if you do, you're likely someone who's going/has gone trough lots of problems themselves, now add in that most people want to relate to characters to feel good, and when half doesn't manage to get in the shoes of rudy and the other half can but hates it because it's not the fantasy they wanted... of course rudy ends up getting a lot of flak, he's not a good person after all and all the way to the moment he comes to term with his new father he tends to act like he's the protagonist of the world, doing and acting in a way that only brings him/his group advantage, but even that changes as a part of his growth, and yes, this kind of people exist in real life.
the difference is that people somehow see this prospect as something that makes them enjoy the eries less instead of more and i don't get why, am i weird for thinking that seeing the growth of someone into a better person while we can see their struggles, dilemmas and flawed reasoning is something beautiful? you don't get that kind of insight in every show these days, and few actually managed to give me that honestly: houseki no kuni, re:zero, a bit of hunter x hunter(although there it was much more subtle), a silent voice... why is it that in these series that's considered a good thing, but in mushoku not? just because the second main flaw* in this case is something that's taboo?(being a genuine pervert, not just for laughs and giggles)
*the first being how he tends to think too much only about his own gains and plans, something which however comes mainly from the prospect of being reincarnated and knowing that time is precious and not wanting to ever mess up.

Animation-wise, Mushoku is defintiely one of the best of all time because the great animation shows in all aspects. Like, it blows every other isekai out of the way in terms of animation. As much as I am in awe of the magic and action animations, I am in awe of the character animation poured into it.
I even had to replay the part where Roxy was looking at the notice board at 7:56. They properly animated her walking to the foreground by taking a few steps, the staff lagging behind with just one skip, her eyes looking and locking into one notice, and crouching down to look closer, all while her hat interacts with the board physically. I love animation and I'm trying to learn it and great character animations are just *chef's kiss*

My one hope from this series is that it sets a higher standard for adaptations, as I've started to get more into reading manga adaptations and even the source light novels I've started to notice a growing number of bad Light novel adaptation anime are mostly bad because of their adaptations undermining the strengths of the source material.
Besides the obvious production issues in the form of off-model & choppy animation, over abundance of CG and weird storyboarding, the anime adaptation of So I'm a Spider, So What? anime adaptation felt just poorly planned out, with what were fan favourite aspects of the source material failing to hit their mark, be it in the very toned down depiction of Kumoko's struggle, giving her the spiderman web shooting abilities from basically the get go when in the source she had to be extremely meticulous about setting her traps due to the limitations of her abilities with every fight being a life-or death-challenge with the odds stacked against her favour for the longest time to the point the average reader didn't question when she would finally get OP because it was clearly not happening anytime soon. The whole narrative structure that balances the 2 stories which feed valuable info to one another crumbling due to original scenes and cut ones misaligning the two sides said cuts on the human story side also just ruining any investment people would have had in the cast of that story all culminating in making the big plot twist at the end of Volume 5 the anime tried to get to so badly in it's 24 episodes feel way less surprising.
This season's Faraway Paladin (Disclaimer: I'm only up to episode 4) struggles with pacing the events of the story as it tires to cram in as many moments as possible in a time frame too short for any of them to breathe and sink in, this makes it hard to keep up with what's going on and makes it feel slow despite going so fast because it feels like not as much has happened as well as making it harder to get attached to the family.
"Didn't I Say to Make My Abilities Average" anime opted to scrub anything interesting like the nanomachines and anything worldbuilding related as well as make simplify characters, skip the entire introduction remove any nuance from the villains to the point of cartoonish evil, while the source material wasn't on the level as the previous two I mentioned it was still very much decent and an enjoyable read while the anime was more around the bottom of mediocrity.
Of course there's exceptions besides Mushoku Tensei like Saint's Magic is Omnipotent which aside from some missing some small details about the making of the potions and the magic system basically stayed true to it's source material with good pacing and solid visuals, managing to adapt the appeal and experience, if you'd enjoy the source to an extent then you'd probably enjoy the adaptation to the same extent. Which I think is paramount to a good adaptation.

I liked rudy from the very first episode don’t get me wrong he’s no saint and he definitely does some messed up stuff but I saw a real person in him not some cookie cutter character let’s face it most people out there in our world could be considered trash and if you go on to read the light novel you get to see him grow into a better person he’s still no saint but better then he was before and maybe thats all you can actually ask out of people that they at the very least end up being a bit better then what they were before

also, i hope in the distant future, berserk will able to get remake of this level

well, it's fine if you don't enjoy mushoku tensei (to me, it's your loss), but i'm wondering if you have things planned for kumo desu ga nani ka? it's my second favorite isekai story after mushoku and the adaptation was... mostly ok with some noticeable hiccups, might be interesting knowing what happened with the studio there

You know a fandom is fucked when a video explaining the production process of an anime is filled with comments about the MC. ALL BECAUSE OF A SINGLE COMMENT IN THE VIDEO! I have nothing against MT, in fact I like the show. But holy shit this fandom is the worst I've seen outside of shounen series. Amazing job as always Canipa Effect, shame to see so many people caring more about a single opinion than the people behind this masterpiece of an art.

I almost dropped the anime at episode 4 as well, that episode left a bad taste and I have to force myself to start a new episode every week, but, it is worth it, even with that, it became one of my top tens, every episode is like a punch in the guts but I love it
    nonetheless.

Its funny to me how episode 4 is the deal breaker for some people.
For me it was the episode that sealed the deal for me that this is going to be a truly amazing series.
The dialogue between family members, the VERY realistic family dynamic after such an "event" and the absolutely horrifc portrayal of a 40-something in a childs body manipulating his own mother to see past the actions of a cheating father.
Sure that stuff is fucked up, very much indeed.
      But its fiction.
      Very well written fiction.
That's why it got such an amazing adaptation.
